I've read lots of reviews stating that EVGA cards have bad coil whine. This is kind of scaring me off from going EVGA again, as my old system saw 3 cards with coil whine/buzzing. I've been looking at other brands but I lack any experience with them as I've always been an EVGA guy. The card I'm looking at is the XC Ultra 2070 super. Can any owners of this card attest to the coil whine issue? I just kind of need to know what route to go when choosing a card. Thanks.

Coil whine can happen but not always. It usually does happen at the higher FPS rates so if you can cap it low or test it to your screens Hz could remedy much of the coil whine. I usually got coil whine when I had my screen set to 144hz but since have switched it to 120hz and don't seem to hear it as much, including my only demanding title BF5.

Actually it happens always, but depend on power supply, kind of noise and how noisy your setup and room is. If you have really quiet setup and you will place your ear near videocard - you will hear coil whine on any fps. And that is not only about videocards - your ssd is not silent too for example ;) High fps just makes coil whine more obvious. But coil whine could be masked by fan noise, damped by case and shatter by distance between case and your ear. Depend on what kind of noise it is and how good is your ear in hearing high frequency noise. For example, I can hear up to 14kHz - while my chief don't hear anything above 12kHz. I had 3 2080ti - 2x asus (rma) and evga hybrid. All had/have coil whine - but only one of them had it really bad. And that is not about volume (it seems that they all have about same level of volume), but about noise type. If it just some high frequency noise - it will be damped really good like any high frequency noise. If it some low frequency hissing - that will be masked by fans really good. But if it is some clicking/rattle sound - that is really bad, you will hear it anyway even if your case closed (because low frequency noise is hard to damp) and you are far away from it. Actually, first time I heard this sound when I was entering room, so there was about 4-5 meters to my PC. And first that I thought is that one of case fan's bearing failing. But that was coil whine and first RMA :)

Never experienced coil whine on any of my EVGA gpu's, currently have 2080ti XC Ultra. Also believe in having a good power supply helps.

I get it a tiny bit, can hear it when the card is hit hard with 1000rpm dual A12 rad fans, 7.5v pump, 50% vrm fan. The pump and rad fans are run off of MB system temp, so above 35C the A12's go to 1800rpm and the pump 10.5v, which completely mask any whine. It's a 2080 Ti XC Gaming with hybrid kit and the fan/cable mods.

I haven't heard it on my 2070 but that doesn't mean someone else couldn't get the exact same card and have coil whine. A lot of it is just the randomness of hardware and I am guessing people with a problem are posting about it on multiple sites looking for a fix before having to RMA.
