So...I'll accept Nvidia's request not to offer pre-orders before launch, but why not post-launch?
Why in the world would EVGA not be taking pre-orders now that launch stocks are depleted?
OverclockersUK is taking pre-orders for the FTW cards.

I don't think Elite members need any entitlements, I just think EVGA needs to invest in proper net security.
Why not? Rewarding repeat customers with preferential treatment is a common business practice.

People complaining about lack of preorders need to realize that the PS5 preorders were also a mess yesterday. You just push up the chaos to a sooner time.
They only way preorders can work is if you only offer them to select customers privately. Public preorders wouldn't solve this problem.

As frustrating as EVGA's website was, the fact that the website completely broke for an hour is probably what allowed real people to actually make purchases, since the bots/scripts would have not been able to cope with it.
I mean I'm sure a good amount of people got them. But the site going down wouldn't effect bots negatively. You can time it. I wasn't actually interested in getting a card because I'm waiting on Zen 3. But I wanted to see how the launch would turn out. When the site actually loaded for me, it was immediately. It wasn't like a priority picking where I had to wait to load. Basically some to DDoS, others to pick up stock on brief time in-between.

Because it also hurts new customers. Tons of new actual people who were interested in 3080 that might not have built Pc before. Seen tons of "Planning my first build" on reddit. If the new customers see they're treated differently, they'll go elsewhere. No new customers eventually leads to death. You can't count on the same person to buy a card every generation. Typically customer programs are point based and not first in line for a low stock item.

yeah I had one in my cart but couldn't check it out. Honestly, it's enough to get me to consider AMD.
Yep I am definitely considering AMD now. Ridiculous that Nvidia forced everyone to not have preorders because it means that every single card went to a bot. My local Microcenter has 10 XC3s right now but I can’t get there until the weekend so fat chance on getting one. I’m sure there are people camping. Will know in a few minutes.

and the price of 2080ti's stay the same, even in b-stock it's still 1k jeez, and i wonder why people band mouth these companies? $$ not making enough for demand? weird business tactic , my guess is that it will create a false "it must be great if hardly anyone can get one, i better get one too"

From the actual EVGA site? But yeah, after writing that I see all of the regulars who were actually trying to get cards never got one. Also, I set up notifications to see if they worked. Spoiler. They didn't. Most I seen who got one were from Amazon EU and one from US was Bestbuy. This was a mess, lol. I don't get how you don't bother getting any type of security. I seen on Twitter them saying they didn't expect this, but if that's true they must live under a rock.

Flat out, no one has to buy from eBay. People need to stop assuming they have to buy from eBay. If people feed the scalpers, they come back. If they waste their own money and no one feeds them, no one loses but the scalper. The cards will be back in stock, so don’t buy from eBay or just don’t complain when you do. You are making a choice, no one is forcing you to make a bad choice.
There are always the rich dickheads who don’t care about the scalping price, pay it, and encourage the scalpers to continue scalping. There is no stopping the scalpers when there are people that have so much money that $20K to them is like $20 to a regular person.

Their goal is to sell as much as possible as fast as possible. If they're moving their entire inventory in 10 minutes then it's a successful launch for them. Just the cold hard facts.

This is a typical launch for any in-demand/limited release product, as long as someone is willing to pay there will be scalpers there to take their money.

This is not even close to typical. Pretty much everyone is saying they saw Nvidia.com and Best Buy go from "Coming Soon" to "Out of Stock" and I can't find any one saying they were able to order a card. This isn't your typical "gone in 10 mins" release, this is essentially a paper launch where they apparently had less than a few hundred cards for the public.

I just wish servers could handle the demand. Not a single web server from the major retailers I checked, except for Amazon, could survive.
I'm less frustrated that the products all sold out in minutes, and more frustrated that I couldn't even load the page to view stock or complete my transaction.
I had a XC3 Ultra in my cart on EVGA's website, while it was still in stock, but could not process the checkout.
In this day of age of cloud scaling, you'd think companies by now would ramp up their scaling for highly demanded launches. Even if it means upping capacity by 100x if just for 5 or 10 minutes. Especially larger retailers like Best Buy and NewEgg, when you consider if their site is unavailable due to a product launch, it prevents customers everywhere from buying other unrelated products from their site. They probably lose more money overall from lost sales of having their web servers hosed for an hour than what they gain through that one product's sales.

Memory Express here in Canada is allowing PreOrders over the phones starting today(RIP there phone lines as Canadians realize this.) Perhaps they're on to something here. Maybe Online PreOrders are a bad idea, and we need to go back to in person only. If it were in person only I would be camped out with my Nintendo Switch all night. And that **** was an experience in it's own way. Even though Diablo 3 was a bust as a game it was fun hanging out with my friends waiting for the EBGames to open up.

People can make an alt dummy account easily enough. Ebay's not good at realizing someone is making a new account with overlapping information.
