So funny reading all these entitled complaints. Like seriously every site has problems I think except best buy. Quit being babies.

Complaining about bots and scalpers is now considered entitled? Dear lord, do forgive me for wanting to not have to spend $1200 on a $750 card from some third rate, shoddy reseller lurking in the bowels of ebay.

Obviously... not wanting to pay these prices is being entitled...

Oh you lucky bastards - having it in your carts, having payment processing in paypal. All I've seen was Website Under Construction. To summarise: EVGA and all other shops, massive demand cockup. EVGA shame on you - give bloody prio to elite members. Doubt you'd be stuck with any stock if some of the members decline the offer. That was the first time I experienced internet shambles of this magnitude....

I'm looking to buy 2080ti guys 500 EUR on offer :)

Yup it died on me when I got to the Payment page.. Like 2 hours wasted. :(

I will say I'm pissed how this launch went down.. never do it again.  But at least I had a chance with EVGA..
The other places and sites was a total disaster.. And Nvidia.com should be ashamed.

You know what they say about assumption? Those ebay listings have been up for a while btw...

Kinda obvious from your mocking posts that you just came here to troll and feed off the misery in here. Would you kindly leave, as you seem incapable of adding anything worthwhile to this discussion.

I'm feeding off the fact that people didn't realize in the days of fast internet and retailers not doing ticket system that this would happen. Also enjoying the fact of those reacting extremely like 12 year olds. EVGA is a good company just because it went down as expected doesn't make them. A terrible company or "unacceptable".

Flat out, no one has to buy from eBay. People need to stop assuming they have to buy from eBay. If people feed the scalpers, they come back. If they waste their own money and no one feeds them, no one loses but the scalper. The cards will be back in stock, so don’t buy from eBay or just don’t complain when you do. You are making a choice, no one is forcing you to make a bad choice.

yeah I had one in my cart but couldn't check it out.  Honestly, it's enough to get me to consider AMD.

Its not like AMD hasn't had their share of paper launches.

As a member of the day one f5 army for every GPU launch since the 7970 in 2011, I can easily say that this is the worst paper launch ever. Every GPU released in the past 10 years, except these, was able to be purchased if you got to a store page within 15 minutes or so of its launch.

A few of those actually say preorder in the title which means that you are basically paying if they receive one. Why would you 1) pay for a preorder from someone who doesn't even have the card and 2) there is no one forcing you to pay $10K for a $700 card so I don't really understand why you are complaining?

What is the solution you are offering for the supply demand problem? Nvidia should delay launch by 6 months until they have enough stock to fulfill every order? I'm sorry you didn't get what you wanted but I don't know why there is a blame thread going. The websites are not equipped to handle massive spikes in demand and it doesn't make sense to build the expensive capability to do so for 1 or 2 days of demand every 2/3 years.

I especially don't know how anyone blames EVGA for this. Yea it would nice to have a captcha potentially but this likely wouldn't solve the website crashing problem

Same story here. Was checking out and the site went down. Came back up and the card was gone. Knew it was going to be difficult to get one of these cards but I really do feel like EVGA let the legitimate customers down.

How isn't there any Captcha in place to prevent this kind of thing?

There was supposedly supposed to be a captcha.
Recaptcha has been broken on chrome lately and will randomly not work at all and throw errors. Maybe that has something to with it?

Remember guys what you were told over and over and over by Manufactures and Retailers:
Bots aren't real.
Stock numbers are fine... dont talk about low quantities.
Scalpers aren't a problem.

Ya, these are horrible, especially since there are active bids, cant believe some of them

Re: Absolutely Unacceptable 2020/09/17 07:56:06 (permalink)
You know just because someone lists something on ebay doesn't mean they actually have it or are going to get it.  If someone is actually going to pay over $50,000 for a 3080 well.... I find that interesting I guess.  If I had that kind of budget I think I would just wait for the 3090 and do it then.

I have no idea about bots or not.  The Nvidia website didn't crash when I was over there.  It simply went from "auto notify" to "out of stock" there was no attempt to purchase phase.  I can however, pull it up on chrome and see "buy now" that doesn't do anything (can still see that even now) but on another browser it still shows out of stock as it had since it changed from Auto Notify....  I guess they must have been able to inject directly to the store and bypass the waiting part.... because they certainly didn't do it on the website with no option to buy ever showing up.  At least the EVGA website actually showed them for sale for a period of time that was obviously short.

Oh and I'm not discounting people being upset... I think they should be upset.  The Nvidia website just really makes it seem like something odd is going on... with the whole never actually for sale before being out of stock thing.

It's like a DDOS attack, automated.  B&H is still down over an hour later, EVGA was down for like an hour.  It was really impressive to watch.

This. It was definetly automated.

Ebay is being flooded with new listings so prices will normalize. And no, nobody is paying 10k for these cards. That is just people screwing up the listings for the scalpers.

It was automated by Nvidia disallowing pre-orders and telling the whole world the exact time orders would go live. Scalpers just wrote scripts to buy up the stock and real people never had a chance. This was as predictable as the sun coming up.

As frustrating as EVGA's website was, the fact that the website completely broke for an hour is probably what allowed real people to actually make purchases, since the bots/scripts would have not been able to cope with it.
