Hey folks. I have a Z97 Classified paired w/ a 4790K. It' awesome so far!! I love it!!! Question: I have my gpu's in slots 1 & 4, but slot 1 is running at 8x instead of 16x. Slot 4 is running 16x. They are also setting to Gen 1, but I think it's a Gen 2? They are 560ti 448 core Classifieds. I have nothing in any other slots and i have the 6pin adapter connected to the MB and it selected in BIOS 1.05. Any ideas? Am I missing something? Doesn't look like their are too many folks with these yet as there are not that many threads. I appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

I have the same issue. I am confused also. I'm not sure where they are getting 16x/16x when it is 8x/16x

No, I have one card in slot 1, an EVGA 780ti. The other card I want to use is a GT 610 for another display. According to the above slot breakdown I need to use slot 3, 4 or 6 while my 780ti is in slot one. I have tried the 610 in every alot and never get my 780 to run at 16x, it always drops to 8x. I dont carw if the 610 euns at 8x or even 4x, it is only running an accessory display, no gaming etc on it. I dis notice when I had the 610 in slot 4 it was at 16x and the 780 in slot 1 at 8x. I have the 6 pin plugged in at the lower left corner and in the bios 6 pin selected as +12vPCIe power supply

Thats what I was thinking when I saw that, I will then have to install longer water tubing from the cpu to gpu which consists of draining the loop etc. I wanted to try to solve it without that, and then that does not guaruntee it will solve it. Regardless, it does not solve the issue as to why the board is doing this. If it was a second 780ti I would be rather pis*** if it would not do dual 16x as it states in the specs. I would have thought an EVGA tech would have stepped in and give the solution or help by now. I know they troll the threads looking for stuff to give answers to

I have not tried that, and I can when I get home after work, but according to the manual it should work 16x/16x in slots 1 & 4. I saw EVGA Tech Joey talking about this in another thread... Where are you Joey? Please help.

Nope. Nothing else is populating any of the slots. Thanks bcav.

What exactly are you using to determine PCIe lane usage? If you are using GPUz, do be aware that GPUz isn't very accurate for reporting PCIe lane usage. I'm also going to have a z97 Classified pulled and tested for lane usage in SLI in the various PCIe slots. This may take a few days to investigate, so please be patient and I'll report back once testing is concluded.

Something is jacked up. I cannot get 16x/16x either. I'm not trying to run SLI though, just installing a second card for an extra accessory display. I can care less what *x it runs as long as my 780ti in slot 1 runs 16x. The Z77 Sabertooth I had installed with all this hardware run both cards fine, 780ti at 16x in slot 1 and the 610 in like slot 4 at 4x. Maybe I should have went with an Asus ROG Z97 board...hhhmmm

I'm pretty satisfied with the board. This seems to be the only real issue I have. It seems solid overall, although haven't tried any oc'ing... Certainly they will come up with a fix. It really doesn't bother me too much right now b/c the games I'm playing at the moment are no big deal for 1 of my 560's... but there will come a time I'm going to want to run sli and will want full throttle. They are working on it. let's give them some time and see what they say to do. Not to rub salt in the wound chapman, but i'm building a rig for my boss and I got him the Asus Z97 Maximus Hero... And it is reeeaaal nice. He wanted a smaller rig.

I should be getting the board today for testing. In the mean time, can you guys check and see what your Firestrike scores are currently? If the lanes are running Gen 3 or Gen 2, there wouldn't be much difference, but if they are truly running at Gen 1 it should be noticeably lower than average for your cards.

Gen 3, 2, 1 is not my problem. My GTX 780ti in slot 1 is running at 16x Gen 3. In the bios it was on auto but still running at Gen 3, I manually selected Gen 3 anyway. Even when I install the GT 610 card and the 780ti drops to 8x it is still Gen 3. The GT 610 runs Gen 1 which is fine, it is just an accessory display card. I again tried every available slot last night and same thing, GTX 780ti drops to 8x no matter what slot the GT 610 is in. However, when slot 1/4 is used together the GTX 780ti runs 8x(Gen3) in slot 1 and the GT 610 runs 16x(Gen1) in slot 4. Would the GT 610 being a non PCIe 3.0 card cause the drop in lane usage? If so, why would it run at 16x in slot 4 when the GTX 780ti is at 8x in slot 1 ? Thanks for the input and help.

Good Morning Jaeson... If you are in Cali, you are at work really early. Thanks for the help. I can run firestrike, but it's probably going to be tomorrow (Thursday) evening before I get a chance. I will say that I played some Diablo 3 last night and it seemed to run just as good as it did Z68 FTW (same gpu's). As well, I played a little simcity a couple of nights ago and it seemed to run fine as well. I didn't notice any gpu performance difference b/w my Z68 & Z97, so it may be okay as far as the gen's are concerned. I will run firestrike asap and will also try to force Gen 2 again and see what happens. I'll let you know the results. Also Jaeson, I posted a thread about another less crucial problem I am having. If you get a chance, can you take a look at it and see if you know or can find anything else out about it. Thanks again. http://forums.evga.com/EV...7-Classy-m2185675.aspx

Yep, I'm in the office here in Brea, and I get in early lol. To be honest here, I'm suspecting this is all going to end up being a reporting error for the most part. As for slot 1 dropping to 8x with a card in slot 4, once I can confirm it is repeatable I'll pass it on to the Product Management team to see what they say. zildjian75, I'll post in a moment on your other thread.

I may cut my loss, sell and buy something else. I want something that will run cards as it says and that I can OC the cpu and have it run at that speed, not go up and down and every once in while for a second or two run at the OC speed I have it at. Disappointing. I'm not bashing it at all, just very disappointed for $380 and marketed as an OCing board. Guess it happens in this computer world.

Tried forcing gen 2 in the bios w/ no luck. Still gen 1.

Same here zildjian, Eleet says 8x and 16x supported. Seems these boards are having a good bit of issues with PCIe, M.2 etc. I've always heard buy something after it is out a while and has hardware/software/driver bugs worked out instead of being a guinea pig. It is my first experience with so many things not working as stated. The cpu OC thing is really disappointing to me. When EIST is disabled it does not matter if the multiplier is set to 41+ it will only run up to 4.0gHz. Disabling EIST should not effect how far the frequency can be set, it should just run at that multiplier setting at all times and not step up and down as the EIST does. My Z77 Sabertooth worked like a charm with the cpu OC and PCIe slot assignment/lane usage. Oh well, right. MAYBE it will get worked out

I just installed my new Z97 Classified with two GTX 780s (SLI) and a i7-4790k. The cards are in PE1, PE2 and are reporting as x8/x16 also. It does not have the gen issue, both report as gen3. I can not move the cards to other slots to test because they are water cooled and I am lacking a longer spacer between the cards .

After reading the other posts, I should move my cards to PE2 and PE4 to get x16/x16. I will try this and see if it works.

Good luck with that jchychot. According to the slot diagram 1 and 4 are the slots for dual SLI at 16x/16x
