I also received the second beta BIOS. I think this one will be a winner for most people.

Long story short, I'm seeing full power limit reached (~366W), and I don't think it's a coincidence that I'm seeing up to ~75W PCIe slot power now instead of being capped at 66W. Seeing higher clock speeds and voltages than before, which again supports my comments earlier that voltage and clocks were being clamped by the artificial power limiting at the PCIe slot.

That is awesome I am glad to hear!  Just curious do thermals go up more?

yes, but that's to be expected since more power is being pulled. I have a Hydrocopper card so temps went up by like 3C (47 to 50), no big deal.

That's great, I'm glad the beta bios seems like it does lift the restrictions on the HC at least. Fingers crossed they release a new bios for the XC3 air-cooled and XC3 hybrid cards with this fix.

additionally, My main use case, which has the highest memory load (~85%), Einstein@home under Linux also shows excellent results.

previously, it was "capped" around 285W and ~1680MHz core clock (this was with 350W limit set)
now, it hits the 320W power limit that I've set, and runs ~1800MHz clock speeds

I do not have any internal monitoring methods under linux to track voltage or pcie slot draw however.

This is freaking awesome. Big win for Kram and you not relenting on this.

We need a FTW3 fix then, because we're not hitting a PCI-E power above 55-60 on average.

FTW3 limit is hitting 150W power cap on the 2nd 8 pin, from what I've observed from my sample. Time Spy 2 Extreme can hit 66W the 3080 Ti FTW3 I tested.

But ow do we know the PCI-E and Pin 2 don't work independently from one another? If they are independent from one another than we'd see at least a 22W increase in TDP.
  • FTW3 PCI-E average power draw in on the PCI-E slot is 50W
  • XC3 Beta Bios 2 is getting 72.5W
That would be an extra 22.5W if it is possible. PM and message EVGA_LeeM and voice your concerns. I already did, he said he'd look into it this week if he had a chance.

Just a reminder that we're talking about a beta BIOS here, and so far only one person has reported results.  I wouldn't expect everything reported by gsrcrxsi to perform the same on every card, as the card I have in my test bench has about the same overall performance as gsrcrxsi's card (with the beta BIOS), but the PCIe slot and other wattages are different.  Our team is still going to review the results from everyone who's participating.

And I'd definitely not extrapolate any success we have with this card (which has yet to be full confirmed) to other cards, whether it's a different GPU or different PCB.  Big differences in each case.

Thanks Lee. If this is successful, I hope the same can be done for the FTW3.

gsrcrxsi went from only being able to an average voltage of 0.901v to 0.939v, that puts him right with the MSI Ventus user who averaged 0.937v.

Hopefully other testers can confirm similar results, but this beta bios looks good so far.

good points Lee.

people shouldn't go crazy yet. we should at least let kram submit his results and observations.

I have a feeling that cards that were already near max power draw might not see much difference. since there's less for them to catch up to. I think there might be some manufacturing/component variance that causes some cards to have a higher slot power draw than others, and when combined with the low PCIe limit, that meant some cards were getting limited at the PCIe slot, while others were not (and allowed to boost to the board limit).

I'm just glad that things seem "normal" for my card with this latest BIOS. I've said from the beginning that I don't expect 400+W on an XC3 card, I just didn't want it to feel like it was artificially limited, and now it's not, for me at least.

They obviously increased whatever limit it was stuck on. Too bad ABE still doesn't work on 3080ti bios. We might be able to see what they changed

They do not work independently.  As I've been saying all along, the XC3/FTW3 hit a limit other than total board power which is why you see a total power reported below the limit (366w or 450w).  You can see that in the numbers.  All 3 sources (2 8pins and slot) increase with that new beta bios.  The power balance is determined at a lower level or hardware level (not sure exactly how it works), not by the bios.  The bios/drivers simply move up and down the voltage/freq curve based on the limits set.  They could increase whatever limit we are hitting with the FTW3 to get it to sit at the 450w total power more consistently, same as the XC3 though.  We know the 8pin limit on the FTW3 is higher than 150w since you can get to a total power of 450w with Kombustor with the 2nd 8-pin reading 155-160w.  So the limit is not 150w.

It helped on my Hydro Copper card!
Still need to check the new bios on my air cooled card. I have logs files on all runs, also did the 2nd graphics test only on Time Spy you requested. Not sure how I share the logs?

You should be able to add a text file either as an attachment or add it to something like a google drive, dropbox, One Drive, etc.

If you wouldn't mind, capture the logs for both graphics runs, since our team didn't specify which they wanted.

kram can you run a standard time spy run instead of a custom one? So the run parameters are a little more comparable.

Thanks gsrcrxsi, kram, & Lee for the input on this thread. It at least gives me hope - I again plan on grabbing the 3953 once my queue number comes up. Better than not having anything at the moment and the progress today has me hopeful. Especially interested in Kram's air cooled run.

Interesting progress. Nice to see an EVGA employee active in this manner on the forum.

Would be nice, when you are done here, if the fixes also made it to the non-Ti 3080 FTW3's with the Onsemi controller, that are stuck with the ~50w PCI-E slot, ~80w 8pin #3, and ~400w total, despite having a 450w BIOS power limit.

Okay that makes sense. At least I have logs from a Strix and the average voltages are very similar to the FTW3 so not feeling like we're missing out on too much.

This is freaking awesome. Big win for Kram and you not relenting on this.

We need a FTW3 fix then, because we're not hitting a PCI-E power above 55-60 on average.

Getting ready to apply the bios and run test. Hope it fixes my issue too, excited!

Got my fingers crossed for you Kram. Please send GPU-Z logs for us.

It helped on my Hydro Copper card!
Still need to check the new bios on my air cooled card. I have logs files on all runs, also did the 2nd graphics test only on Time Spy you requested. Not sure how I share the logs?

kram can you run a standard time spy run instead of a custom one? So the run parameters are a little more comparable.

My Hydro Copper is in a system with a i5-9500T CPU, full test that includes CPU score not really needed.

It just makes it easier to do a direct comparison on the compare links. Since the full test has several graphics tests.

Not sure if this link works, but here should be a zip file link with my logs, including the Time Spy Graphics Test 2 only log.

And with the same CPU?

Time Spy full test has two GPU test and one CPU test. I just skipped the CPU test only.
