Here's another image from Kingpin of what's to come.  Notice the position of the power headers and yes, there's the famous EV port.

esrly last year, before the 980ti released, I asked Vince if he could move the power headers to the back of the card. Shortly after, the power link came out... yay, maybe this will come down to the FTW and Classified line next.

He is saying that the cooler is going to be something awesome to see, so I am curious.

figured I would post what I saw lol. I'm assuming the grey one is a RGB header or something.

I'm leaning towards the Kingpin for the higher end components. That's what matters most to me. I absolutely can't stand coil whine. If they aren't that great, I'll gladly go with the "over-engineered" FTW3.

what the difference between kingpin and FTW3? thanks :D

The Kingpin is a track car and the FTW3 is a daily driver.  That's the way I would describe it.  You would never buy a track car to drive to work everyday as the ride won't be as comfy and you will deal with more issues than you would want for the reasons you got it.   Of course if all you are doing is drag racing would opt for the Track car as you are only concerned with the 1/4 mile and admire all the mods and tweaks built into the car(d) that let you maximize that 1/4 mile time.

It's still pretty easy to customize a bios with higher power targets,

then there's the shunt mods and such...

I haven't been able to get ahold of my old friends from ocn that were doing most of the custom bios' in the kepler / early maxwell days,  I don't think they got in trouble, but I'm sure they got yelled at lmao.

Good luck.. all cards are prone to coil whine. Inlcuding KPE cards.

Where is the pascal bios editor, and how do we load it to the card? Editing a bios that cant be loaded is not useful to anyone. I know those that do extreme overclocking are granted access to different bios, but I havent seen a single person load a custom bios on their own.

EVGA Unleashes The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti KINGPIN Edition 2017/05/29 06:10:54 (permalink)
If this is what you've been waiting for..........just a little longer before release. Unfortunately there will be those who want those clock speeds with zero db fan profiles..................................and complain about noise and heat if they cannot be reached.

Just not as easily as before.  I'm going to poke around when mine comes and see if I can get a hold of the brothers.

There is so much butthurt and whiners in this thread lol.

I don't understand why people complain so much about something they're obviously not going to purchase. Is it because of envy and jealousy? If you don't run LN2, then don't buy this card, simple as that. Unless of course you're just a showoff with money to blow just to use this card running on air or watercool it.

Anyway, this card looks like a beast if you do liquid nitrogen cooling.

Minimum overclock of 2025mhz means nothing, all my other Pascal cards can do that on air easy.

They said that you can expect a manual overclock of 2400 MHz.
The 2025MHz is just the guaranteed factory overclock.

Look carefully at the screenshots of the first post of this thread.

That 2025mhz is not the factory overclock, that is what is guaranteed doing it manually yourself.

I never saw a guaranteed manual overclock in an EVGA card. I might be wrong, but I doubt they will start doing it now.

I can't see the picture (forum bug), but I guess you are talking about the USB pins.

GamersNexus_tear-down
The USB2.0 header uses the same pinout as a motherboard’s USB2.0 header, but critically permits additional voltage tuning through software, bypassing some of the BIOS limitations. Vital LEDs are adjacent to this, and can be used to visually check voltage on all the rails.

It says a minimum overclock of 2025.. it doesnt say a minimum base clock or minimum boost clock.

How about this... instead of trying to interpret, why not wait for them to post the specs of the card.. tjat would be the easiest way to solve what they mean.

Dont forget, the 80% Asic 980ti was guarantted to go above 1600mhz by all sorts of people, until it was actually in the hands of end users... and it clocked just like all the other 980ti's. Dont get your hopes up for marketing until you see advertised speeds and end user results. Especially when the card in the first post is at 2500mhz using ln2... if anyone believes 2400 on air is happening.. you are in for a depressing launch until there is substantiating proof to those claims.

Now here's something interesting... Kingpin coming with a guaranteed overclock number... Just hearing what they said here and from what Gamersnexus covered so far, this could actually be a card that wouldn't be a total waste for someone who's just going with water.

I agree with the grain of salt approach. However, Kingpin himself corroborates a guarantee of 2025, not out of the box, and is also quoted as saying the highest he's seen on air is 2150MHz. 2400 is indeed absurd, and it isn't the case.

Wow. Jacob usually chimes in with correct information when users and EVGA_Techs present conflicting info. It's strange that he would provide info that contradicts the guy whose name is on the card;  I think that 2400 has both physics and Kingpin against it though... I could see their changing their mind about whether that 2025 is an out of the box spec, but as it stands, KP said that it is guaranteed but needs to be applied. Maybe it'll auto-implement with the LN2 Bios only, so if and when it fails, they can say that that spec is only fully certified with exotic cooling.

In a tweet by EVGA’s Jacob, he revealed that the GTX 1080 TI Kingpin edition was able to sustain an overclock of 2400 MHz+ on air cooling with impressive temperatures."

You make the call...........................................

2400Mhz on "air" probably means blowing liquid nitrogen on the card using the stock fans or something similar as we've seen in the past on overclocking competitions. I have a really hard time seeing it being able to sustain such a high overclock on air otherwise.
