If you're looking to get more consistent clocks the FTW, Classified & Kingpin are still good buys as they come with increased power targets over the FE.

What are their power targets?  I know we can get 120% with most.  Do they go significantly higher?  If so, I agree that is a worthy advantage because power target keeps these cards from even reaching their max stable clocks in heavy usage games pretty often.

Both the 1080 FTW & 1080 Classified had 130% power targets.

Heh, I get a kick out of the peeps who ask "Should I wait".  That's a game with no end, cause there is always bigger better faster just over the horizon.

From what I've read so far the main attractions to the Ti are obviously the price and the fact that Nvidia is putting no restrictions on partners' designs so I don't see why there wouldn't be one.

If the best that they are coming up with is the FTW3 I'll be buying a Galax HOF this time around.

I hear you brother! ..Or a pre-binned selection of classy's would definitely be interesting

Remember when EVGA sold pre-binned Kingpin 980ti cards based on ASIC scores and charged $849 for a basic score and $1049 for the same card with a higher ASIC score?  Nvidia loved it.  So much they removed ASIC scores from the 10 series.   At least that was my theory.

It's actually not overkill that's just you psyching yourself out. It will perform no better than any other GP102. 😂

It will probably be about 10% better than the other high end 1080 Ti cards.  Whether that is enough to give a Titan Xp a good challenge we will have to wait and see.

Yeah I think hoping for 10% gain is a bit of a pipe dream, unless, you know, your planning on using it for its actual purpose and using ln2.

I own a couple of 82%+ ASIC 980 Ti Kingpins and on air compared to other 980 Ti cards the difference is 10% or more.

That's Maxwell chipset. This is Pascal. There isn't as much room for OC-ing.

That said, maybe somebody could clarify for me: I'd be interested in this if it could run matching clock speeds but at a lower power draw, thereby generating less heat (resulting in a less aggressive fan curve). Other's have called them the "ultimate air cards" and I can't tell if it's because of this exact reason, or if it's sarcasm. Any ideas?

Re: 1080 Ti Kingpin 2017/05/23 14:29:09 (permalink)
I would say it was sarcasm, since the card was never built for air, and many folks that stayed on air had complaints. I had the 980 kingpins and coukdnt even play counter strike on air because the card drashed at 60c until I put waterblocks on the cards to keep them cool. People that spend 1049 for the same thing everyone else had with a different label will always try to justify the purchase. If you are simply wanting higher benchmark scores, buy them.. if you are expecting this thing to take you to a whole new gaming realm, wait for actual reviews from end users.

Here's another image from Kingpin of what's to come.  Notice the position of the power headers and yes, there's the famous EV port.
