Well dogfighting module is officially delayed for a least a few months, can't say I'm shocked about it though.

Hmmm, I didn't read last Friday's update (I know, for shame ) but was it listed there, and did they give any info as to why?

Server back end and custom networking code. They need the groundwork in for that to they would just be throwing work away to hack it in now to get dogfighting out before the end of the year. They don't want to throw away work and instead want to work on the final system instead. Frankly, with how long they've been taking on hangar patches this doesn't surprise me at all.

Taking bets we see planetside before we see dogfighting module.

Ahh, I would rather have it done right once, then doubler the work due to hacking something partially done to make a deadline.  Not as fast as I had hoped, but, hey we cant have everything, and this does look good and I am no less excited about this game even with dogfighting being pushed back.

Any decent game takes 3-4 years to develop. Frankly, considering how short a time they've been working on dog fighting module I donno how they expected to release anything so soon. Looks like they doubled their location size in L.A. and significantly larger in Austin, so at least they have room to hire people into now.

Wow.

Just found this game and thread whilst searching for 780 Classified wallpaper.  I have this feeling in my gut it may be the greatest discovery I've ever made!

Spent a couple of hours watching/reading the content on the RSI site and I'm blown away by Chris Roberts' vision and the attention to detail evident in everything.  I've played EVE for quite some time but having been itching for a game that has a more visceral and engaging control style and this looks to be the very thing I've been searching for.

I have a couple of questions before I pledge, though.  Been looking at the AA Hornet F7C as my pledge ship, along with the niceties that come with it.  But can anyone explain how the insurance works?  As in, should the ship turn into a ball of flame, how does the reimbursement work?  And is there anything else I should consider before picking a pledge ship?  I'm thinking of a pledge of around £100/$150 if that helps?

Yep, it's been really cool so far. I suggest going into YouTube and catching up on the Wingman's Hangar episodes. Tons of information in there. They're up to episode 50 now. All of the live stream events are also around if you dig for them. Friday there is going to be another live stream event too.

Insurance is a lot like in Eve Online. It covers the hull, but not the add-ons. Quick info on insurance:
  • Standard Hull Insurance *
    • Replaces your ship hull in the event of destruction or theft.
    • Hull is replaced with an identical model in equivalent condition.
    • Effective for a set period of time: currently one, three or six months.
    • Must be renewed with in-game credits once expired.

Great, I'll do that. Are you guys planning on buying some sort of joystick for this game? If so are there any that come recommended? I know it's early days but I want to put some cash aside so I'll be able to hit the ground running.

Off to learn more now before picking a pledge package. I read that veteran backers have access to lifetime insurance, and that new players can benefit from this if they apply via a veteran... Is that right?

Insurance in eve was a bit wacky. The values for many ships were comically low. Don't know why they couldn't base them on average market value of something. But then that game seems almost designed to appeal to the griefer mindset!

Edit: I'm pleased they're holding onto the dogfighting module until they're happy with it. So many games are rushed out nowadays in order to meet publisher demands (the rampant glitch-fest that is BF4 springs to mind) that it's refreshing to see a developer willing and able to focus exclusively on the quality of their product.

I'm pretty hardcore about flight sims, so I'd probably be a bad person to ask. I'd say Thrustmaster Warthog, which is overkill for people who don't do flight sims all the time. :)

LTI went away for everyone about a month ago -- even for original and veteran backers. Their old ships have it but anything new doesn't. It was a benefit they gave during a window of time -- which was the first year of pledges.

I watched the live stream a bit late today as I was out shopping with family. Here are the links to the videos if anyone missed it:
Part 1: http://www.twitch.tv/roberts_space_ind_ch_1/b/488899707 (starts at 50 minute mark)
Part 2: http://www.twitch.tv/roberts_space_ind_ch_1/b/488909647

It has a run time of just over 2 hours.

Depends on if they have insurance or not.
Yes, you can lose them... if not insured and you are boarded, or have your ship destroyed, then you are out of a ship.

In the game's defense ALL ships come standard with insurance.  The only variable is the length of the policy.  Also, buying at this stage should be just to support the development!  If you don't care about that then wait till the game launches and you'll never have to buy anything outside of the retail game with real money.

All ships that can be purchased in game, can be purchased with in game creds, not real money.

I'm hoping to be a secondary organization that is casual but helps people with hardware. Right now I've got the it set for social and trading. I don't expect it will be used much until they add in the ability to join multiple orgs. A lot of people are going to want to be in whatever primary org they chose then add in casual orgs later. I'm setting it up as a casual org.

I couldt not find anything under the name "RIFT"

To find it, enter RIFT into the search box. That's the org's spectrum ID. The full name of the org is "Ring of Independent Free Traders" or RIFT for short.

Cool, got you setup at Tech rank. I'm using "Tech" rank for those from hardware tech forums. If you're interested in a more hands-on position in the org let me know. For now there isn't anything to do but chat though, so rank doesn't really matter.

Ya, the search is a bit glitchy at the moment. There are 6 of us now in the org. Trying to get a few from WSGF and the SC hardware forums to join too.
