So I saw this thanks to PC Perspective. The expected launch date is November 2014. My jaw dropped to the floor while watching this and I still can't pick it back up. Share with all your PC Gaming friends.

    Sweet mother of god!  Roberts is back, and yeah, that is definitely from the mind of Wing Commander..... look at the ship designs....I do believe I saw a WC3 a Dralthi knock off there.  As long as Roberts didn't do the same crap he did with Freelancer  "I removed the joystick support to not give it that Wing Commander feel"..... but holy cow, looks like its time to dust off the joystick maybe dosbox through Wingcommander and Tie fighter again.  There are no words to express how happy I am to see a space flight sim again!!

    Being a fan of the Descent series and a PC gamer through and through, this trailer gave me much faith in the future of games.

    That is being built by Chris Roberts. He did the Wing Commander series. It will be epic. All of his stuff in the past was first rate. I hope there are still some Wing Commander fighter jocks around. I was one for years...Good Stuff!

    @OP,
    thanks for pointing this out!
    @Killjoy, you don't know what you missed.  I know some modern gamers cant push themselves through games that don't look good, but these were well controlled, good story and I loved the consequences of losing. Check out the pic below as how they have done mission since WC1

    If you win, you go one direction you lose you go a different direction with different missions.  Each of those bubbles had 2-4 missions.  Great concept.

    But man, the new game looks great.  I loved his clip of both WC1 and Privateer in it, it's nice there will be some good single player story mode (why I haven't been all over MechWarrior online.... strictly multi) as well as the open universe multiplayer.  I also love that joystick support is back, unlike Freelancer.  I have been dying for a new spaceflight sim for so long.  I can't recall the last time I was this anxious about a game, makes me all nostalgic, like being on the TCS Tigers Claw/TCS Concordia/TCS Victory (Tin can sally)/ TCS Lexington/ or even the Midway, not as good as previous games.... but still fun.  Also loved my Centurion class heavy fighter from Privateer, I have always been a space flight sim nut, and a WC fan since an early age.....I am avidly following this.

    **EDIT** Odd, my pic of the WC1 mission flow chart didn't pop up, thought some who didn't play WC would have liked to see it, as it does show an overview.

    I got the originals of everything still, and I have some versions through www.gog.com and they a few of the WC games that just work on W7 64 out of the box.  Also I believe it is wingcommander CnC or something like that which has a big database and forum dedicated to all the originals, and making them work on modern systems.
    Thanks for the reminder on this one though, i saw it a while back and was recently thinking of what game that was.  Making me think of highschool again seeing those Excaliburs flying by.

    Looks amazing. Sounds like his initial intent for Freelancer before it got stripped of all the cool multiplayer features.

    Rumors were true after all, extremely excited about this game!
    Bring the beta into light please, WOOT!

    Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

    @DaveB. I played "Eye of the Tiger" non stop. I loved the series. I still have alot of it in my basement..LOL Great stories and game play. I also have the movie on VHS. Most here will not know who Chris Roberts is. If he has his way, this game could be the kick starter PC gaming needs along with Planetside2..

    For those who haven't played Planetside2, get on Facebook or Twitter and get yourself a beta key. You won't regret it.......

    I assume you guys have heard of the X universe games from Egosoft? They've slowly drifted away from the "pure" aspect of the space sandbox genre (i.e. lack of cockpit view, limited joystick support after X2), but they're still pretty good.

    Also as a side note, did anyone else notice the date at the end, 10/10/12? That seems to insinuate the game should have been out yesterday.

    Cool, tho i kinda wish it were free to play.

    On the payment model from their website:

    Not a subscription but not free-to-play; rather a hybrid of these two business models. Much like ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2, you will purchase the PC game and pay no recurring subscription charges. Your purchase of the game will allow you to play in the universe for free, forever! The game will offer a variety of virtual items for purchase with in-game credits allowing you to spend money on items that offer more ways to express yourself, provide convenience, and customize your experience. But the cardinal rule regarding "in-game purchases" is: Players who spend money purchasing in-game credits will have no advantage over players who spend time!

    Everything is bought with in-game credits. These purchases won't offer any advantage over someone who puts in the "game-time" to earn the same amount of credits. You might ask, why have "in-game" purchases at all? This allows us the resources to support the game on an ongoing basis as well as continually add content.

    X games are awesome, I have recommended them MANY times, have all so far.  X3 used my joystick very well, I have an old Precision Pro, but it just fits, and a Saitek Macro pad.

    @SGTHACK
    you mean Heart of the Tiger?  WC3 right?  WC, then WC Secret missions1 Thors Hammer campaign, WC1  secret missions 2 the Frieka (sp) campaign, that iirc have the planet killer from the Cult of Civar in it, WC2: Vengeance of the Kilrathi, Covert Ops1 which had the brutal ending with taking down multiple carriers in one location, and Covert Ops2, where you hunted down Jazz as he is a traitor.... watch to the end of the credits there....worth it.  WC Academy (mission sim), WC Armada (strategic/flyer), Privateer, Righteous Fire, WC3: Heart of the Tiger, WV4: the Price of Freedom, WC Prophecy (never got the mini expansion for that one) and REALKLY detached was Privateer 2 The Darkening with Clive Owen.

    Was eye of the tiger a different, like console game, as to the best of my knowledge, I just went through all of the PC titles.
    So....yeah.... been a long time fan LOL

    And X-Rebirth looks awesome too. Can't wait for that. But I think it's a single player game. Star Citizen looks to incorporate single, co-op and PVP.

    ^^^^ This.
    That's why it looks so great to me.  I have my single player story mode campaign which I love.  Then a multiplayer universe to explore.
    And also agreed X-Rebirth looks way cool.  I loved that the owners of the Superbox got Albion Prelude for free.

    Wonder how far they will go with it.  For example, you are running at (using the old WC speeds as a base) 400kph, cut throttle to 0%, will inertia keep you moving forward, or will it behave as if you applied the breaks (firing forward thrusters)?  I ask as it would offer a lot of maneuverability options, specifically in dog-fighting if you get a hard missile lock on me, rather than trying to bank out of your range and break lock, i hit zero throttle,  either pitch or yaw 180, open fire and go to wide open throttle.  This would also NOT change your course, as all you are doing is pivoting while flying straight.

    Heck, XWing Alliance did something similar, where they gave YPR stats, but different craft made their peak turning radius's at different speeds making throttle control very important in a dog fight.  I would like to see both aspects built into the game, and also varying YPR stats,  like the Dralthi's from early WC games, Pitch sucked but Yaw/Roll worked better, forced different piloting styles.   Heck the Descent thing of full vertical/horizontal movement would be awesome too, but the first 2 points are far more important IMHO.

    I'm supposed to be working, DAVE!! Darnit, your super geeky and nostalgic WC musings are like crispy creme to my inner-malnurished gaming geek.

    I'd be highly surprised if Roberts didin't hold true to real world/space physics. I think intertia will work as it should. I hope. Once it begins moving it will never stop unless. The slightest changes, like direction and intensity of thrust, should dynamically change your trajectory.
