I have two 1080 cards on my computer and I am looking to buy an evga z390 ftw board and the spacing is not right. I currently own a z170 motherboard that has a one slot space. so I am looking for  2 or is it a three slot sli bridge

    That looks like the 1 slot sli bridge is needed to me according to the picture.

    For your 1080 GPUs use 1 Slot  100-2W-0026-LR



     
    Correct..Every 20mm (20.32mm to be exact) is counted as a slot space whether there's actually a slot there or not..A 60mm bridge is needed.

    Newer RTX Cards now use the New NVLink SLI Bridges, a 3 Slot and 4 Slot Model is available from EVGA and NVIDIA.

    Can't Mix the SLI Bridge technologys
     
    RTX Bridge can not be use on the 1080 Series GPU

    no, i was thinking about buying a couple of the 2070s and upgrading the whole systems motherboard,  CPU and GPUs.

    A Note about the RTX 2070 and SLI A Big No-Go as they have No SLI Fork. You need the RTX 2080 or 2080 Ti for SLI.

    Yes you would have to get the New NVLink Bridge > 3 Slot

    For SLI I would go with EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 XC HYBRID GAMING, 08G-P4-2184-KR, 8GB GDDR6, HYBRID, RGB LED Logo, Metal Backplate
    For Cooling. And Yes 3 Slot NVLink SLI Bridge for the Z390 Dark or FTW Motherboards.

    the case already have the Obsidian Series™ 750D Airflow Edition Full Tower ATX Case

    Blower Cards are going to get Hot in that Case.
    The RTX Cards in general run up to 14°C to 18°C Hotter than the GTX Card did.

    I have two blower cards already with 0 spacing nothing really makes the cards hot. my temps run 53 to 45c

    i have 2 evga 1080fe with 0 spacing https://www.evga.com/products/specs/gpu.aspx?pn=365887af-bcc8-4b94-b123-5751a3569549. every card  I bought were blower cards except these two  EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX they were not blowers.

    alright maybe I will get one good 2070 then I fellow employee where I work said I really don't have to go full tilt crazy on a GPU. with the games, I play 2070 will do. mostly I play freelancer on a Discovery server.

    two 1080s are more than I need lol. I wanted to upgrade my pc. but the motherboard I want to buy has 1 slot spacing for sli and I really can't get an evga HB SLI bridge for one slot

    But if you were going to get 2 2070 you could get one 2080 Hybrid
