I am putting together a new build. Here are the specs
64 GB Corsair Dominator CL 40 DDR5 6000 2x32GB
Core i9-13900ks
MSI Geforce RTX 4090 Gaming Trio
EVGA 1300G2 Power supply
Samsung 980 Pro NVME 2TB x3

My issue is this, I have booted into bios but the cpu is only showing 32GB of ram in Dimm 2 slot. i tried booting with one stick in dimm one and it won't boot at all, tried both of them in dimm 1.

Now If I stick both of the dimms in the cpu will boot into bios.

I did update the bios to the newest version. 1.11

I don't think it's bad ram. I'm thinking its the board as if it was bad ram it would boot with one of the sticks in dimm 1.

Open to suggestions or am I on the RMA bus for the board?

If both sticks of RAM only work in ONE slot ... BUT neither works in the Second slot ..... your RAM should be good

Use a strong light, & unplugged ---> look into the memory slot for any damage or some sort of small debris stuck in the slot?

Does the RAM training work?

Have you tried the second MB BIOS?

Try re-flashing the MB --> AFTER changing BIOS to Default settings

Are all CPU & RAM voltages set to auto?

Make sure RAM voltage matches what is on the RAM sticker

I tried all the different bios settings. I flashed it with and without a cpu. I went to Best Buy and bought different corsair ddr5 ram it did a similar thing. Though this time it was dimm 2 and it wouldn't boot if dimm 2 was occupied. The voltages were set to auto, I tried setting to xmp but it would still just show 1 stick of RAM. At this point I'm done with this board. I shouldn't be having these types of problems out of the box with an 800.00 motherboard. It was a good ride with EVGA but I put in for RMA from Newegg, boxed the board up and ordered me an Asus board.

Hello. I just got a Z790 KP and I am really excited. But going through the forums, I see a good number of people complaining about issues out of the box.... I am bit worried now. I hope mine won't act funny.

If you are using 2 sticks of Ram shouldn't they be in slots 2 and 4?

Make sure you also have the latest Intel ME / ME firmware installed.

Having said this, I had almost the *exact same issue* with an MSI Z690 Carbon EK-X after flashing the BIOS. CPU is a 13900K. With the MSI Z690, I could post, but would lock up in Windows with any XMP profile. On the Z790 KP, it won't post and gets stuck at code 04 with any XMP profile applied (again, only with the Beta BIOS 1.11.)

I have tried the same thing and can't use XMP *at all* with the Beta BIOS. It works if I roll back to the previous BIOS via the BIOS selector switch on the Z790 KP. Of course then there's a bit of a mismatch between the ME firmware and BIOS (X1 detects this) and I was BSODing.

I can run at 5600 on the Z790. On the Z690 I was limited to 4800 after the BIOS update.

My specs:

EVGA Z790 Dark K1ngp1n
Intel 13900K
G.SKILL Trident Z5 32GB DDR5 6000 / 6400 / 7200 (XMP fails for all three of these kits)
Zotac GeForce RTX 4090 AMP Extreme Airo
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB / 980 Pro 2TB / WD Black SN850 2TB
Corsair Shift RM1200x

Re: Z790 Dark Memory issues 2023/03/21 11:08:28 (permalink) ☄ Helpfulby Cool GTX 2023/03/21 13:35:45
I was having memory issues too when I first got my Z790 Dark KP. I think the board came with BIOS 1.05 out of the box. I installed my components (i9 13900KF, 2x32GB G.skill 6400mhz, RTX 4090 FE) but immediately got the old 53, 54, 04, and 7f boot loop. Which was weird coz I had already updated my RTX4090 FE's VBIOS back when I was using my old Z690 Dark KP.

So I used a USB stick to update to BIOS 1.11 using the flashback button. Once the flash had completed, the PC turned off for a few seconds then rebooted. All lights and fans turned on but no input to the monitor, just a black screen and the same boot loop codes 53, 54, 04, and 7f.

So I shut everything down again, cleared CMOS then rebooted once more. Still the same boot loop code 53, 54, 04, and 7f.

So then I took out one of my RAM sticks and tried booting with just one stick installed. Low and behold it worked! So I went into the BIOS GUI now that I had a picture on my screen and set all my timings etc, saved and shutdown the PC. I then re-installed my 2nd stick of RAM and booted up the PC again. No boot loop this time. Everything worked and I was able to install windows no problem.

There must be a memory detection bug with BIOS 1.11
