As the title says I recently rebuilt my system - to clean it and upgraded the cooling on my system. (custom water w/ GPU block). Everything seems to be powering on but I'm getting a d6 error with 5 beeps then it hangs on A9. From what I can find the GPU can't be found. I did a cmos reset and tried all 3 Bios options. I'm using a PCIe gen4 riser. But all the hardware worked previously before the build. 
 
Any ideas?

    Are you sure the GPU is fully seated into the riser and riser to motherboard? This happens pretty regularly with those, a little flex, they look in but aren't fully seated and that causes the GPU to not be detected.
     
    At A9, you're in BIOS, but you can't tell because there's no video out as your card isn't being detected.

    I tried reseating both the GPU and the riser - no luck. I've ordered a new riser hoping that solves the problem. Otherwise I think i'll have to put the gpu back to stock and try it that way.

    Set the PCIe slot to ?  try Auto & PCIe 3.0
     
    You would not be the first person to have riser cable issues.
     
    FYI: never bend sharp corners into these riser cables, use a Sharpie or other round object to make your turns

    Well I put the stock cooler back on and now it works. So I clearly installed the bykski cooler wrong.

    check around all points of contact between block & PCB - could be something is too wide & touching where it should not
