Flying-Sea-Sloth ...gets stuck at 18...
https://en.m.wikipedia.or...orthbridge_(computing)See this link and remove parts involved with it one by one, starting with your 950, and try to boot. In terms of poor performance with SSDs, it may be faulty or you are simply using too small of a sector size. Most SSDs do best with 4k, 16k, or 32k, some are alright with 8k. 1k is fine for a small OS partition and saving space with its many tiny files, but consumes a lot of IO ops. Never use 512b, your performance will be laughable.

I don't know if I mentioned this but I'm using a es 2.8ghz 4 core 8 thread cpu. I'm just going to make the random assumption that my CPU support was just dropped with this revision(somehow) so I should try unplugging PCI stuff including my ssd, or pick up a 7700k/7600k? Engineering samples tend to have weird compatibility issues

EVGA, are you going to do anything about this BIOS version not working for quite a few people it seems? I too had the problem and received a new chip with the beta 2.0 BIOS on it and haven't upgraded because of this. Are we SOL because Z170 is "old" comparatively?

The reports of issues flashing to 2.01 is extremely low. If all viewed in a single thread then I suppose it looks like an issue, but I cannot remember the last time a customer called me with a corrupted bios (0d at post). If that happens we swap the chip. That is reason that we have that feature, bios are notoriously easy to corrupt and always have been. You can flash it to the latest bios with the knowledge that we will cover you if there is an issue. As with any bios flash, I recommend doing it directly from the Bios and not Windows. Please also make sure that you are not currently doing important work on that system, or would not be economically affected should we need to send out a replacement chip. As with any Bios update, unless you need a specific added function or compatibility for the updated bios, there is likely little need to update. If the system is already working then a Bios flash is unlikely to improve anything. TL:DR The Bios should be fine. Only flash as necessary. We will cover you if there are any issues, so don't worry! š

Thanks for the quick response Ray! So are there no plans to release another BIOS to Z170? I don't currently have any problems on the beta BIOS, its just a bit unnerving being on beta.

Hi, need some help with the 2.01 BIOS on my Classified K. I just flashed the BIOS and had to remove all RAM stick except the one in slot 2 to get into BIOS. I dialed in the values i used on my old 1.04 BIOS. When i cold start my rig, the Debug LEDs circle several times through 00 until 4C before booting. My overclock on my CPU and RAM was fully Prime95 and LinX stable on 1.04. Setup is a [link=mailto:6700k@4,7]6700k@4,7[/link] GHz, 4 x 8 GB Corsair RAM @ 3466 MHz CL 15. Once i get into Windows everythings fine. Any ideas?

BIO's updates are for solving ongoing issues and implementing support for new releases. No need to update and brick your board just because new bio's were released or friend did it, no need to install any update unless needed. Just basic rule of thumb for new forum members

Guys, help is needed! After updating BIOS from 1.09 to version 2.01, my motherboard starts and does not reach the BIOS input. Error code "18".
