    Flicker ?

Your asking about the Clicking Noise ?

Sounded loudest near your PSU & Hybrid card

Turn the radiator so the Hoses are DOWN for the Hybrid Card ... your pump could be running Dry (air)

Could be a Fan hitting something ?

As for the hybrid radiator, granted it should be the other way but it’s been like this 1year with no sound/problem. I’ll probably move it back to the bottom spot to make sure. Also psu has always worked flawlessly for the last 5-6years (old rampage v build) it was working fine 2hourd before the swap. As for the fans i’m going to recheck everything but from where i was standing it felt like the psu was going on/off on an endless cycle so i’m shutting it down asap (except video on forum). It feels like a short be it case/motherboard or whatever. If you look closely on the video the lights flicker (onboard leds etc) and no QC code either like nothing is happening no cpu, memory or gpu check seems to happen.

    Starts well for the 10900x

    Lol

Sounds like you have a short somewhere or PSU just died. I would definitely check all your cables, plug and re-plug. Also look for any burned pins while your at it.

Yea i’ll pick up a second psu later tonight to test that theory. I’ll post updates on every step in the op maybe it’ll help someone eventually.

Check that something did not end up behind your MB - causing some sort of short

Any possibility you accidentally mixed the PSU cables between units ?

Impossible since getting second psu in 2hours. As for the « behind the mobo » i’ll check that out for sure. I’ll start by just ghetto switch the psu just to see if it fixes the problem. If not i’ll have to mount it on the provided stand (which is very nice) if it STILL doesn’t work i’ll be all out of options besides thinking dead cpu/mobo or possible bent cpu pins but i don’t think it would do that. Anyways still at job i’ll test a little tonight if i have the time!

Edit : could a possible loose standoff cause a short ? When i removed the rampage v i had a standoff that was stuck with the screw. Had to use tools to hold the standoff while unscrewing. Decided to use the standoff for the x299 dark anyways since i didn’t have a replacement on hand.

I have heard of standoffs causing a shorts but that issue usually when placed in the incorrect place. Good luck, I am interested to hear what you find.

    First follow up.

It seems the extra psu isn’t causing the issue. Which in turn means, possibly one of my cable is shorting OR the psu itself died during the transplant as pointed by fellow members. Here’s video.

    Second follow up.

It appears the 24pin is the culprit. Those are custom sillicon cables. Might have been too rough with them. Here’s proof.

It appears the cable is NOT the issue but the psu seems to have died during the swap.... What are the odds... Proof in video.

Could it be possible the HCP1000 is not compatible with the X299 Dark ? Is that a thing ? I find that quite hard to believe. Sadly i do not have a second hcp1000 to test or a second test bed to test the hcp1000 on it.

    Hmmm.

Now i am lost. Need insight. The psu still works fine with the Rampage V but not with the X299 Dark ?

Last test i could try is to mount the board on the provided test bench and see if it works. If it does what would it mean ? A short somewhere with the case ?

    Re: X299 Crazy flicker 2019/11/29 17:39:21 (permalink)
    Fifth follow up.

Researed the motherboard tried it and removed motherboard and tried it. It seems the psu doesn’t like something on boot. Although be it outside the case or inside it flickers 2-3 times then proceeds with the boot which it never did before (with the hcp1000).

Inside the case with everything removed and reseated.

    https://youtu.be/XPd3_qPo9fE

Outside the case (i know it’s not wise the way i did it, didnt want to remove cpu cooler)

    https://youtu.be/BC619RbhGmc

Now this tells me either the psu is starting to fail or it’s just incompatible somehow...

And here’s the mobo freshly reseated in combo with the cooler master 750

    https://youtu.be/GfN8JRoZakQ

You can hear a little buzz or vibration coming from the psu it is very subtle but i believe this might just be the fan kicking on.

Ordered a new HCP1000 last night. I’m going to test the same setup with the new psu. I’m starting to wonder if the psu isn’t « dead » but is actually dying.. Starting to malfunction etc..

Well... Friday was way too far away couldn’t stand seeing my computer like this for a week. I went ahead to canada computers and borrowed an EVGA 850 GQ to test my stuff. Good news. In the same environment this psu does NOT cause the flickering issue. Got an actual first post « dF ». I have nothing hooked up so i guess i’ll figure it out soon but still this is removing such a huge weight on my shoulders!

Oh ok, for some reason I thought you were upgrading from another X299 CPU. Have you tried posting with another bios, possibly the one you are is corrupted now. Try switching to another one to see if it boots.

Edit: never mind just totally missed your post where you did exactly what I suggested

Tried all three. None worked. They’re all stopping at « dF ». Tried clear cmos on all of them. Didn’t change a thing.
