My last suggestion would be to install 1 stick of ram, and GPU installed in top pcie slot since you will need video and try it that way, it may be a dead board now. If you do get in then of course update the bios.

Well i already tried 4,1,0 sticks. No change. With or without gpu still no change. Gpu has always been top slot though.

I can see that there’s a red led lit up. It’s the vcc one right under the led display.

Ya I think that is normal, you may have a dead board or CPU now.

brand new x299 dark so whatever BIOS it shipped with.  I was going to upgrade the BIOS from the BIOS via USB to a 10th gen compatible one....  but I go right to post code DF.

Aw man same copy paste story here. I was trying to find a cheap 7640x to get in, do the bios upgrade and switch back. But i can’t find any... Not even sure if it’s the correct course of action anyway.

Just got off the phone with EVGA tech Daniel and he is aware of this issue as well as this thread.  Likely a BIOS issue.

The guide for the "next gen ready x299 dark" suggested we could at least post to BIOS and update from there but that does not seem to be the case at least for me.....  and at least for the i9-10900x.

Yes exactly. If i had know that i would’ve to go through all this trouble i would’ve taken a different course of action or even product. Anyways, i’m glad you called them today! I was waiting monday to call them, didn’t even think they’d answer on a sunday. Tomorrow i’ll try to get to a computer repair shop close to home and see if they can « lend » me a 2066 proc so i can update the bios for the 10900x. Thing is that HEDT platforms aren’t THAT popular because there are more cost effective alternatives (but those don’t fit my situation hence why i got the 10900x/x299 dark).Initially they should ship their board with the newest bios but that would be so much man hours. Anyways, pointing fingers will get me nowhere right now. We’re in the same boat you and i and potentially more people soon. So i’ll update tomorrow if i’ve been able to get a hold of a 7640x to proceed with the bios update (1.19) and see if the 10900x can pick up from there. Otherwise i’m stuck. Like no solution besides sending the board to evga stuck :(

Daniel (tech) said the x299 dark has a removable bios chip and they might be able to just push us a new chip to snap right in. More to follow.

EVGA should have included bios flashback flashback on a motherboard this nice. I know Intel tends to require new boards all the time but on the AMD side all the nicer boards can be updated via USB flashdrive without Cpu or ram installed.

I actually thought it did have it until you guys mentioned it, every other X299 board I have has flashback on it lol.  Usually only low end 100 dollar boards don't have it these days.

100% agree with you guys. It really pisses me off to have to go through so much only for a bios update but on the other side, if i’m being critical, for all the pros this board has, this is one of the few cons that i heard of. Once the bios is flashed once, problem solved (for most of us).

We’ll if EVGA decides to include this next round of HEDT.

This the case for all X299? I have the Micro 2, and was considering the 10920X.

I’m pretty sure they will, they have excellent customer service. It’s just an oversight that’s all.

Re: X299 Crazy flicker 2019/12/02 06:57:26 (permalink)
I ended up calling too. Bottom line sending a second chip is the « solution ». Also, rep told me that since i bought this new mobo in mid october it SHOULD already have the 1.19 bios but there is no way for anyone to confirm it besides me using an older 2066 cpu to try to get to bios. So it’s 9:56am here, waiting on 10am to call local computer shop to see if they have a spare socket 2066 cpu to lend or whatever just so i can test that theory.

So... bad news.. NO ONE has a spare 2066 cpu to lend or to use to troubleshoot. I inderstand that the HEDT market is a « niche » product but still repair centers should at least have one :(. I’ll try to find a friend that has a 2066 and willing to waste his time to undo his setup. Will update this thread eventually... At least if i knew it would fix the problem 100% i wouldn’t be this mad.

I purchased my x299 dark October 4th 2019 direct from EVGA. Even though it was an October purchase it was probably sitting on a shelf wrapped up ready to go.  I doubt these had 1.19 on them.

Thinking the same. Did you get the MiR ? Thought it was a good deal. 100$ off for this mobo felt like i couldn’t pass.

yea, $100 rebate.  Avenger411 if you recall you and I were in another thread picking out RAM for this thing while waiting for the 10th gen to release.  This build has been months in the making and my son had the air taken out of his sails with the DF post code.

sadly we had already completely disassembled his old machine to make room for this x299 build.

Ah yes! I remember thinking wow this kid is going to have one hell of a system ;)

Also i got news! A friend has a 9900x on his build. He and i will meet thursday to make the swap and see if i can get this board to boot! I’ll put the result here in this thread! If it doesn’t work it’s RMA time. Let’s hope the 9900x is « natively » supported by the vanilla bios. Otherwise i’ll be in the same sinking boat. Meanwhile, if you receive the bios chip do you mind telling us if it worked ?

Cheers! Your kid will be very happy once all of this settles and when he’ll be powering this beast for the first time!

EVGA just confirmed my address to mail me the new updated BIOS chip.  You may want to hold off on tearing down your buddies machine.....

See, I told you they would fix it.

That's why my sons build looks like this:
EVGA X299 Dark
EVGA 2080TI FTW3 Ultra
EVGA 850W titanium
EVGA CLC 360 AIO
EVGA X10 Mouse
EVGA X10 Keyboard
EVGA DG-86 case

notice the theme???  He needs an official EVGA sponsor badge for his twitch stream!

Wow that’s alot of EVGA! Yea i’m sure they will fix it. They told me they’d send the chip (when i’ll ask) with usps. From experience this will take around 5-9 days since i’m on the eastern seaboard. Cannot wait that long. It’s been around 5 days as of this writing and i had stuff to do that i pushed back but i can’t push it back to next week. Hopefully this will fix it.

That build though... quite powerful :)

Hello if you have an EVGA X299 Motherboard and if you are getting Post Code 'df' with the new CPU's, please contact EVGA support and we can have a BIOS chip with the most up to date BIOS flashed onto it. That will help the board get up and running. If you own an EVGA X299 Micro2 motherboard (121-SX-E296-KR) a RMA will need to be set up as that particular board does not have a removable BIOS chip.

Our email would be support@evga.com or contact us via phone at 1.888.881.3842.

Make sure to have your motherboard registered to your EVGA account otherwise, you can register the motherboard here https://www.evga.com/support/register.asp
