Just bought 12900K, upgrading from 9900K. But funny thing I can not find any motherboards at all 🤯.

Is there any release date for the Dark model? I would love to pair my 3090KP with it.

Second option:
Asus Rog Z690 Extreme if it is possible to find 😔

Third option:
DDR4 board so I could use my 3800CL14 kits and have some fun 😅

PS: As others members here I am still waiting for Optimus KP waterblock.

If you decided to go with third option please let me know the result. I'm thinking of doing the same, In fact I already bought the motherboard. Its Asus ROG Strix z690-A D4 and I'm planning to pair it with either one of this:

My main reason of going this route, is due to the fact that ddr5 loose timing might severely impact my fps. I'm playing on 240hz 1440p monitor and want high and stable fps.

We don't know how ddr5 will perform yet. You need to keep in mind it has better bandwidth and the timings look loose but theres also 6000 kits already in the hands of reviewers as well. Intel has never been affected by the latency of ram as bad as amd. A 4400 cl19 kit performs as good as a 3600 cl14 kit on intel. Technically better and the viper kits are b die and can tighten the timings. I think the 12900K wont be as big of an upgrade for me with a 10900K. Its just the most exciting platform since 2010.

My Setup
-ASUS PG259QN, XG248Q
-Lian Li 011 Dynamic
-MSI Z490 Meg Ace
-10900K 5.2GHZ

-Artic Freezer II 360MM
-16GB Viper 4400MHZ
-3080 TI Founders

-EVGA 750 P2

Have the same type of monitor (Samsung G7).

Sure, will update thread with my decision. But first I will wait for reviews to come up. Then I will do my move :)

I missed the first batch.   I'll put one on order as soon as one becomes available. The jump to DDR5 is exactly the jump I have been waiting for coming out of DDR3.  I tend to prefer to jump generations and overclock the snot of what I already have.  My 3770 had a great run.

Gaming thing
i9-12900KF @ 5.20GHz
EVGA: Z690 Classified - RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra - Supernova 1200w P3 - DG-75
32GBs Corsair Dominator DDR5 @ 6800 - Seagate: .5TB, 1TB M.2s, HD 4TB
Sony CRT 24" GDM-FW900 16:10 - DangerDen (RIP) Goodies: 2x120mm Rad & D5 + Primochill stuff

Unless there's some kind of spectacular improvement over the 11900K, then I see little point for myself, plus it would mean getting a new motherboard for the new socket. Technically it's 24 cores for the 12900K vs 16 cores for the 11900K, but they are utilized differently. Real world benchmarks will be interesting. I don't think it will make much difference for gaming, but rendering and other multi-core intensive tasks will be interesting. Also will be interesting to see how hot the 12900K gets (which may in turn impact overclocking ability) - certainly the 11900K runs very hot, so the 7nm lithography on the 12900K may help. DDR5 compatible too - lots of new stuff going on = lots of variables to impact performance. I'm not going to be an early adopter, I can say that much.

I was not impressed by 11th gen overall.  Very little OC overhead and runs pretty darn hot.  I got more out of 10th gen.  That being said, the memory overclocking on 11th gen was better.  But overall I'm hoping 12th gen is an improvement on 11th.  But as you said, likely little impact on gaming/daily use, but may be more fun to push the clocks.  I'm willing to dive in.

True, OC on my 11900K is not exactly awe-inspiring - on water and best I can get is 5.3GHz on all cores seemingly stable on Prime95. Any cores clocked higher than that, even if I graduate the clocks down on other cores, still is not stable under full load. 5.3GHz on all cores runs pretty damn hot under Prime95 too. Still playing around with it when I have time.

5.3Ghz 11900K all-core is pretty darn amazing!

My 11600K can do 5.5Ghz but only a single-core Per Core profile in the bios.

My older 8086K can do 5.8Ghz single core and 5.6Ghz all core with the Z390 Daark. Oh those were the days!

I think EVGA should change the name to Z690 Daark since it looks so cool and Norwegian. lolol

Norwegian wood, isn't it good!

100% this. If the review is underwhelming it means I will be sticking with my 10900K. I shelled out 500 dollars for a mobo in CAD so it wouldn't be the easiest resell.

Well looks like my order got cancelled through no fault or doing of my own. I just got an email stating that "as you requested your order has been cancelled......blah blah blah". They also are not able to reinstate my order, nor can they guarantee me a CPU. I didn't request a cancellation, so no idea what happened. They just said their technical team will look into it.

Looks like I'll be watching this one from the sidelines.

That means you got a free CPU or huge discount. I remember someone from reddit telling the same story of how he's order got cancelled for no reason. This was on Coffee lake refresh launch day btw. Basically, Amazon cancelled his order due language barrier. He complain on them and they ended up giving him the i9 9900k for free. He has to wait thougg, but still.

Goodluck!

I hope your right. I will be waiting and watching closely for the reviews. I already bought my i9 12900k and if ddr5 affects fps much then I will go with option 2 and buy the fastest, ddr4 4000mhz-cl14. As for the ddr5 I'm looking forward to gskill triden z5.

Doubtful after spending all day on the phone with newegg and going back and forth with emails I'm only able to get a i7 12700K as the 12900K is completely sold through and even more aggravating so is all the DDR5. So it seems if I want to jump to Alder lake it'll be on an i7 (which honestly is pretty good) but it'll have to be with a DDR4 motherboard and the pickings are pretty slim for what's left available.

I discovered one issue which I personally believe will hamper the Intel next gen release. I checked in Europe and the USA. I couldn't find any DDR5 memory in stock anywhere.

Try Provantage or Compsource. I bought my i9 9900k from Provantage back when its sold out everywhere else. Goodluck and I'm sorry about your troubles.

I think everyone here will be "shocked" to learn I've ordered a 12900K, ASUS RoG Strix Z690-F and 32GB DDR5 5200Mhz Corsair Dominator RAM.

Nice! Let me know how it performs....I don't think I need an upgrade, but never know.

It seems so. It’s the same here in Canada. It was available at Canada Computers and I was not fast enough to pre order it. It is now not listed on their website, any DDR5 memory brands.

Where did you get the ram? I couldn't find Corsair ddr5 anywhere.

I ordered it on Newegg

Nice! Let me know how it performs....I don't think I need an upgrade, but never know.

Well that sucks.

Edit 2: btw, I hate to be 'one of those people', but the 'there' in the title should be their...It just bothers me.

Err....I didn't make this thread so??? lol

I ended up ordering a 12700K and a ASRock Z690 Extreme that supports DDR4. I figured it was the cheapest "decent" DDR4 board left available. I have some nice 4400Mhz CL16 DDR4 that I can run in it that can do either 5000Mhz CL17 or 4000Mhz CL 13, so I guess it'll be interesting to see how that stacks up.

Intel i9 14900K ...............................Ryzen 9 7950X3D
MSI RTX 4090 Gaming Trio................ASRock Phantom RX 7900 XTX

ASUS ROG Strix Z690-F Gaming........ASUS TUF Gaming X670E Plus WiFi
64GB G.Skill Trident Z5 6800Mhz.......64GB Kingston Fury RGB 6000Mhz
MSI MPG A1000G 1000w..................EVGA G3 SuperNova 1000w

I discovered one issue which I personally believe will hamper the Intel next gen release. I checked in Europe and the USA. I couldn't find any DDR5 memory in stock anywhere.

This is why I want to see the reviews of DDR5 vs DDR4. I mean in theory if the memory controller is that much stronger and timings are that loose, it may be possible to push a bdie DDR4 kit to similar specs. The viper 4400mhz kits are RNG but you can definitely win that lottery. Depending on what the difference is a DDR4 board may be just fine for now.

My Setup
-ASUS PG259QN, XG248Q
-Lian Li 011 Dynamic
-MSI Z490 Meg Ace
-10900K 5.2GHZ

-Artic Freezer II 360MM
-16GB Viper 4400MHZ
-3080 TI Founders

-EVGA 750 P2

I have a feeling that everyone has bought out existing stock

It seems so. It’s the same here in Canada. It was available at Canada Computers and I was not fast enough to pre order it. It is now not listed on their website, any DDR5 memory brands.

Thanks. Yes. The 12th Gen CPUs are readily available for pre-order in Canada and MBs as well, but not the DDR5s.

I have a 9900k running at 5.1ghz in an old z390 Dark with a blocked 3080ti FTW3.  I play on a 3840x1600 160hz monitor.  Not sure how much of an uptick I will see.  I'm in a holding pattern until I see some benchmarks with a similar system.

Curious to see the price on the evga boards. Ive ordered my 12900K. I havent owned an EVGA board since the x58.

I’m still Rocking my x58 classified with an i7-975 in it.

Ordered a 12900k from Best Buy Canada, a cheapo msi ddr4 mobo until the 690 classy comes out and some tighter ddr5 timings. Watching manufacturers they are already tightening up their timings from the first release batch so I’m excited to see what they push out in 3-6 months.

I won't buy anything without benchmarks and reviews. I mean is my X299 Dark and 7900X REALLY that bad a CPU and MB combo?
Plus Moores Law on Youtube has even stated while a good CPU it remains to be seen what Ryzen 4 will be along with the Intel CPU after this one set for next year.
Right now we KNOW DDR5 prices are going to be high, but we don't know what the real difference is in real world testing and reviews.
At the moment things are working nice and while having a nearly for 4 year old PC makes me wanna rebuild, I will NOT over pay and NOT hurry in making a choice.
I mean I STILL can't even get a 3000 series GPU for over a year! I don't think waiting is going to make or break me either way.

Having said all that I wish anyone good luck on their new rebuild if they pre-ordered etc.! I just tend to be the overly cautious sort and prefer waiting till ALL the facts and testing is in.
We already know 12th gen for now will be the fasted gaming CPU but does it pay to upgrade is a WHOLE different question...

I know the feeling as I am still using a Z68 with a 3770k.  Regardless of what the benchmarks look like, this is going to be a huge leap for me.
