Checked again today. NO DDR5 memory available anywhere.

Honestly, it's not really worth it at the moment. For everything from gaming to rendering and encoding the difference is single digit percentage points apart from DDR4 to DDR5. Maybe when we see DDR5 kits at 7000Mhz or faster for less than $200 it'll be worth the jump.

I'm actually kinda glad at this point my whole pre order got blown up. I had pre ordered a 32GB Corsair 5200Mhz kit for $350 with my original order. Now looking back it was a blessing in disguise that it got cancelled. I did that sight unseen and was just looking at the new tech which to be sure is fun and ultimately what this is all about, but man I would have been bitter after seeing the actual real world results in DDR4 vs DDR5 first wave.

Next year down the line with maybe Raptor Lake? Maybe then DDR5 will be more attractive and widely available. But with the semiconductor shortages and rampant scalpers I'm not holding my breath on that either.

Intel i7 12700K ...............................Ryzen 7 5800X
XFX RX6900XT Merc 319...................Gigabyte RTX 3080 12GB Eagle OC
Samsung Odyssey G9.......................Oculus Rift S
ASUS ROG Strix Z690-F Gaming.........ASUS TUF Gaming X570 WiFi
32GB T-Force Delta RGB 6400Mhz......32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600Mhz
EVGA G3 SuperNova 1000w...............EVGA G3 SuperNova 850w

Tbh I had made the decision I wasnt going DDR5. I went for the best damn bdie ddr4 kit on the market. 14-15-15-35 at 4000mhz. Definitely some head room to play around with timings but at this speed/timing its actually hardly worth it. Im only hoping on 12th gen will be able to gear 1 at this speed.

My Setup
-ASUS PG259QN, XG248Q
-Lian Li 011 Dynamic
-MSI Z490 Meg Ace
-10900K 5.2GHZ

-Artic Freezer II 360MM
-16GB Viper 4400MHZ
-3080 TI Founders

-EVGA 750 P2

I sure hope not. I’ve got a 12900K and a Z690 Aorus Master, but no DDR5. I’m thinking of buying a Z690 DDR4 board from
Amazon since they now have their holiday return policy in effect. If I can’t get my hands on DDR5 soon, I’ll probably have to return the Z690 Master, even though I really don’t want to. Although, benchmarks have indicated that DDR4 performs just about as well as DDR5 for gaming with these new Intel CPUs.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting there to be such a shortage of DDR5 compared with motherboard and CPU availability. And while Z690 DDR4 boards exist, they’re not as robust as DDR5 boards unfortunately. Definitely a crapshoot, but at least I could get my 12900K up & running by going with a DDR4 board. Well, as soon as I get my CPU block’s LGA1700 conversion kit that is.

Most testing shows a well optimized DDR4 kit outperforms DDR5 in almost every game.

Currently running my 12900k on an MSI Tomahawk with DDR4 using the g.skill 4000 14-15-15-35 kit. It’s enough to hold me over until the Evga z690 boards come out…. This MSI board was another great reminder how much I love EVGA’s bios UI :)

I agree with what others have said on DDR5 - the current pricing, availability, and negligible performance gains make it not worth it … *YET*

For anyone holding out for DDR5 memory, grab the tissues and check this article out - DDR5 memory out of stock reasons revealed: power management chip PMIC shortage

I managed to get a 32GB kit of Kingston FURY Beast 4800MHz yesterday (coming today) which I'll make do with until DDR5 matures and stock stabilizes. Who knows, I might be able to overclock it

35 weeks?! That’s 2/3 of a year! I hope that doesn’t mean 35 weeks from now and that it’s 35 weeks altogether, and that procurement cycles have been underway since at least last year. I ordered a DDR4 board that should be here tomorrow, but it’s lackluster compared to the caliber DDR5 board I originally purchased. All the good Z690 DDR4 boards were just paper launches like that of the Gigabyte Z690 Pro. But man, something’s gotta change. Raw materials is one thing, but leaving just a few companies to supply the world of chips is friggin ridiculous!

LMAO.. just saw on Newegg a 'discounted' i9-12900K... $844.98 'discounted' down to $844.92. Wow 6 cents off on an already over-inflated price, what a deal... (~$589-$599 is msrp)

No idea, I haven't seen it appear yet so it's anyone's guess at this point.

But to be honest, DDR5 isn't worth it anyway. Just grab a DDR4 board and enjoy 99% of the performance bump of Alder Lake

That would be a plan, except holding out for the Dark with no option for a DDR4 version.

If EVGA had a DDR4 z690 Dark board they'd have a niche to themselves all OCers would buy one lol

That may be true about DDR4 RAM particularly, but high-end Z690 DDR4 boards just don’t exist. They’re all paper launches. Gigabyte, for example, lists a Z690 Aorus Pro DDR4 motherboard that isn’t sold anywhere. I’d be perfectly content with that board if I had to stick with DDR4 for a while longer but, again, it isn’t available.

Every single MSI motherboard I have owned had an issue that prompted me to either RMA the board or outright replace it. I don’t know what it is about their boards, but they just don’t hold up. That’s been my experience anyway, and I’ve owned about half a dozen of their boards since the early 2000s. So, I steer clear of them. The last MSI board I bought was an X99 one that was RMA’d due to a faulty BIOS module (dual BIOS, one crapped out). That’s going on seven years ago, and maybe their build quality’s gotten better. I don’t know. I just know that they were once my go-to motherboard company but they let me down time and again.

But to be honest, DDR5 isn't worth it anyway. Just grab a DDR4 board and enjoy 99% of the performance bump of Alder Lake

The MSI ones are available on newegg but not on amazon yet unfortunately.

Not sure there I guess you just kill them lmao, no issues here with any of mine since X58 until now but yeah stuff happens, only boards I've ever RMA'd are Asus and EVGA.  The Asus ones are 2nd best it seems from OC DDR4 right now and Gigabyte's DDR4 models are terrible so far if you don't want MSI I'd get Asus.

I've been saying it this whole thread: DDR5 in it's current iteration is not worth it. Those of you sitting on the fence or not wanting to build unless you can get DDR5, it's pointless in it's current state.

I'm glad my order got botched, it was a blessing in disguise.

Trust me, I’ve considered user error, so I can laugh along with you. However, I doubt user error causes PCI and RAM slots as well as USB ports to crap out. Those are some of the other things I’ve had die on me with MSI boards.

I’m working on swapping out my Z390 Aorus Master for the Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 board that just arrived, so we’ll see how things go with my DDR4-3600 kit.

Are you forgoing Alder Lake altogether, or did you opt for a DDR4 board. If you went the DDR4 route, which board did you get?

Nice hope it works well, most of the people I've seen talk about it are into hard core memory tuning not xmp lol.
