I have a 9900k running at 5.1ghz in an old z390 Dark with a blocked 3080ti FTW3.  I play on a 3840x1600 160hz monitor.  Not sure how much of an uptick I will see.  I'm in a holding pattern until I see some benchmarks with a similar system.

I play COD:MW with my buddy. Both of us have 6900xt. I get 230 FPS with a 8700k 5ghz. He gets 330 FPS in the same scene with 5900X.

i7-8700K is over 4 years old now, i9-9900K is about 2½ years old, and 5900X just coming at to 1 year since release, so not really surprising.

I won't buy anything without benchmarks and reviews. I mean is my X299 Dark and 7900X REALLY that bad a CPU and MB combo?
Plus Moores Law on Youtube has even stated while a good CPU it remains to be seen what Ryzen 4 will be along with the Intel CPU after this one set for next year.
Right now we KNOW DDR5 prices are going to be high, but we don't know what the real difference is in real world testing and reviews.
At the moment things are working nice and while having a nearly for 4 year old PC makes me wanna rebuild, I will NOT over pay and NOT hurry in making a choice.
I mean I STILL can't even get a 3000 series GPU for over a year! I don't think waiting is going to make or break me either way.

Having said all that I wish anyone good luck on their new rebuild if they pre-ordered etc.! I just tend to be the overly cautious sort and prefer waiting till ALL the facts and testing is in.
We already know 12th gen for now will be the fasted gaming CPU but does it pay to upgrade is a WHOLE different question...

Honestly moores law annoys me. He seems like a clickbait artist and I believe thats why his channel hasn't grown. I've also heard he starts rumors. 12th gen isnt just about per core performance gains. Ex 10900K vs 5900X. With the information we have, we know it performs 19% faster than 11th gen single core. Using that info its obvious it will rival the 5950X. The way the new architecture works is very interesting. Imagine having an 11900k, 8 cores 2 threads. Now imagine having a dedicated I5 8 core cpu with no threads to manage all other tasks on the OS while your beefy 8 performance cores are dedicated to your gaming task rather than being split amongst everything. Either way its a very intriguing design and I already ordered my 12900K and paired it with a strix DDR4 board. Maybe later I will go DDR5.

My Setup

-10900K 5.2GHZ

I did

I ordered a 11900k earlier this year and it didn't work in my EVGA Z490 Dark and it sat on the shelf for half a year. Finally got a Z590 Dark for it just before the 12900k Launch, but now I need more cores and ram sooooooo......

Time to try to get a EVGA Z690 Kingpin hopefully before the 13900k comes out this time for my Kingpin build.

Intel 12900kPre-orderable now if you still need to get one.

When will the Z690 Kingpin (aka Dark) be available? EVGA always seems late to the game. The Z690 Kingpin would complement my SR-3 Dark quite well. :)

Watched some reviews. Power efficiency is terrible and only single digit increase in gaming over the 5950X. Looks like I'll wait until next year for an upgrade.

Depends on the workload. 125w out performs the 5950x in almost every game on the table on windows 10.

A lot of tech channels are milking the content a little but one channel did ddr4 vs ddr5 and the results are very small in gaming. A 4000mhz cl14 kit would outperform ddr5 in game workloads.

Have a source/link to the video? The ones I watched were pretty much "negligible differences, and could be any number of factors that could cause these issues ex. mobo drivers."

Ordered a 12900k and an ASUS Z690 Hero as a bundle, worked out $AU200 cheaper than buying them separately. Wasn't expecting that (especially on launch day) but I'll take it! Now all I need is the DDR5 memory which is out of stock everywhere but it's moot as my EK-Quantum Velocity² block isn't expected to ship till near the end of the month.

Newegg is selling different 12th gen cpu's in bundle. Take a look because it wont last. That is also your best chance if you want it now. Goodluck!

Got mine from B&H this morning. For some of the GPUs the notify has been acting like a queue. Always worth a shot.

The difference is very small, and tbh ddr5 is fine but the price right now and availability isn't worth waiting for. If you are a gamer that is, the 4000MHZ cl14 kits are the best ddr4 bdie kits on the market and still have overclocking headroom. A 4400MHZ CL19 kit actually outperforms 5200mhz ddr5 in some games.

Agreed.... in 6 months when they drop the high speed, low CAS kits then we'll start seeing some gains with ddr5. This happens the same way with every new ddr gen.

For those of you looking for 12900k's, if you live in a state that has a Microcenter nearby just walk in, they should have plenty.. the two stores in IL that I visited both had them...They won't tell you anything over the phone though...they also had quite a few 3xxx series cards MSRP. (EVGA 3090 FTW as well)

Some games definitely had a huge gain but the thing that people are overlooking is the huge gains in 0.1% and 1% lows. The architecture is young and is not even designed for windows 10 but still beating the 5950x on 10. Thats a huge w for team blue imo.

I got my 12900k in today. Waiting for the mb to arrive. Went with the z690 Hero. Really want the Kingpin Classified board though, looks amazing. Also, these numbers are for release, new architecture. Once bios updates, chipset updates comes in, updates to w11, this chip will scream.

Jay did a great job showcasing the 5900X vs the 12900K in power consumption. It's not nearly as bad as people are screaming. Tbh I'd be curious to see what a 5950X pulls because of this video. Its much closer than people think. Obviously AMD wins but c'mon people.

I had reserved and picked up mine today from Canada Computers. It was destined for pickup only and located about 47 minutes away. I confirmed it was in stock by phone, reserved it by website and drove down that hour after I received the confirmation text. The website said I had two days to pick it up before it was canceled.

I buy ASUS motherboards and Corsair Vengeance memory only when I build systems at work and like their UEFI over everything else. That is why I went with this bundle out of the roughly three available with the i7-12700K.

Gaming wise, between the i9-12900K and the i7-12700K, the performance was negligible. I have a wishlist made and will get the other parts in the recent couple of weeks.

The suppliers at work don't even have them in the system yet.

I looked into 12th gen Intel but was concerned that it would take weeks and weeks of waiting to grab enough desired parts to be able to make a build.  DDR5 RAM looks very scarce.  The 12900k looks very scarce as well.  Plus, the z690 mobos I was interested in (EVGA ones and a couple of ROG models) aren't even available yet.  I am on 7700k z270 and want an upgrade.  So, I went on eBay and there are a lot of 10th/11th gen Intel CPUs and mobos at cheap rates.  Grabbed a 10850k open box item for 15% of current retail and a Aorus Master new item for 50% off retail.  I suspect many people who move to 12th gen will continue to dump parts on eBay over the coming weeks.  So, there should many more deals to be had if you are still on 6th/7th/8th/9th gen and want to move up.

I think waiting for DDR5 to become more of an established thing is the best move, unless you can get lucky with a bundle like NazcaC2 did.

I was long overdue. I'm still on a first gen i7 920 and EVGA X58. Albeit, it served me quite well.

Yes, I was quite lucky. At Canada Computers, they said I was the first person to get this bundle. As a tech, each year I see new chipsets and always get the upgrade itch. The itch is no more. Plus, it sounded better to me to go from PCIe 2.0 to 5.0 and DDR3 to DDR5. I finally get to use UEFI too, lmao.

By the way, thank you for turning me on to the Folding@Home forum signatures from https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com!  I have been running F@H on my all-purpose Win10 "server" since March 2020 when the pandemic began.  It started as a 2070 Super.  Promoted to 3070 when I got my first EVGA queue card in December 2020.  Promoted to 3080Ti in August when I got another EVGA queue card.  And, will be promoted again in the next 10 days when I switch to two machines each with 3070 Ti cards (both EVGA queue cards).  I am moving the 3080 Ti to back my work laptop (as eGPU) and will setup two server machines in my basement, one Ubuntu and the other the same Win10 box, with 3070 Ti cards.  I expect 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA + 3070 Ti FTW3 ULTRA > 3080 Ti XC3 GAMING.  I've really enjoyed the notion that with F@H there is something that I as an individual can clearly do to help fight diseases and have been happy to donate the electricity $ for it.

You're welcome. That's quite impressive that you have all of those rigs folding. You're right, it is a great cause. That's a good contribution to help out.
