I'm just curious since I might have to do the same. So if it has been working for you that'd be great news for me but to clarify i'm not saying you have only two VGA slots, it just looks like it to me and I could be wrong cuz I don't know **** lol

Bro, I remember how I did it actually, so my power supply is not fully modular, it has the 24pin and the 8 pin plus 4 pin for the CPU non modular, and I used the CPU port for the VGA. I feel like they're all the same if the port fits.

Yeah man, I'm going to upgrade my PSU asap. Not trying to potentially damage my card, and I'm going to edit my original post.

Again I'm not too sure about this :D I wish we could have someone from EVGA aswell telling us the best way to plug-in our gpu's pcie-cable wise

I think for most people it's just common sense but I have no idea. I know nvidia includes like an extra cable but I wonder if they have ever explained it or a guide on how to correctly do it on the new cards instead of just frying them lol

Dog, I just opened hwinfo, vga slots 1 and 2 are pulling 8.800w each, and the one that plugged into cpu is pulling in 12, I'm getting any psu I find tomorrow, that misbalance urks the **** out of me.
Edit, I'm still monitoring it, they all seems to be shifting now, I dunno, I would not do this again lol just in case.

Yo I have good news for you, I opened my case, and I noticed that the non modular cable besides the 24 pin is actually a PCI-E! So go ahead and plug your card in, it's doable without modications! You still need two additional cables, but they should have came with the PSU! UPDATE : EVGA 850 BQ does indeed have 3 PCI-E connectors. Two slots modular, and one non modular!

I ran GPU-Z and saw that my FTW3 Ultra is pulled 390W from the PSU, at load. Each VGA / PCIE cable is technically rated for 150W so one cable is taking too much load. I went ahead and ran a third cable.

They never commented on 3x 8-pins. EVGA and ASUS have both come out and said it's okay. The reason that it's not okay on a 2x 8-pin is because by specification for a 18awg wire, they don't recommend running any higher than 8A, that is 288W. 3080 FE = 370W+ Pci-e = 75W 370W - 75W = 295W 295W > 288W

The 150W number came from pci-sig to get their seal of approval, but you know what? Having 2X 8-pin is not something they have stamped either, so technically having 3X 8-pin is out of their spec they have not certified. That being said, the cables by specification can take 288W if you look up the specification for each individual component, the connector, the pins, the cable itself, etc. But having 3 dedicated is a better peace of mind.

Jacob has answered the question multiple times on Twitter. 3 is recommended but 2 won't hurt. I was more so worried about the connectors holding up, over time.

According to GPU-z under load my daisy-chained connector is pulling about 8 less watts and I would imagine thats probably that part of the cable getting warmer, but yes that one cable has 222w on it.

IIRC, GPU-Z doesn't do a good job with 3x 8-pin readings. You would have to have a multi rail PSU that can do readouts or a measuring tool to reall know. You should be fine.

Oh hey it turns out it isn’t because of power draw. Or at least in my case. I think my card’s core clock was pushed too far and cant handle 1900mhz. My Ultra only runs stable at 1800mhz core clock. I think i need to rma it

What cables are you running to the ftw3 card? Are you running three independent power cables? Or are you using cables with the 8pin pigtail?

Yo! So i Went from a 750W Bronze evga to the 850W P2 and both PSU, I used three separate rails. Or 3 8-pin connectors hooked up to 3 different vga pins within the modular power supply. Same Issue, Crash to Desktop on RDR2 and Black Ops. Not blue screens , CTD and checking After burner it happens when the core clock boosts hard. I have to underclock it to stay at the 1800mhz as opposed to the overclock-factory of 1900mhz out of the box for the Ultra. I feel so defeated as I have even gotten a new ssd with fresh windows and it still happened. Process of elimination, it is def my GPU but I am still waiting to hear back from EVGA support. If they recommend RMA then I will update here so that people know that technically I got away with a 750W Bronze

I had issues with my Seasonic 860 Platinum I bought in 2015. Symptom was instant shutdown then reboot when I boot up a game. I couldn't even make it to the settings screen sometimes. The 3090 Vision OC was so hot to the touch (couldn't touch for more than only 1 second). Swapped to EVGA G2 850W from another older build bought in 2016 and seems good now.

dryja123 Just got a shipping confirmation on my replacement 850W GA replacement. EVGA is sending out a 1000W G3. Nice upgrade.
I saw that one was available, I was wondering if I should preemptively order it and return the 850w P2 . Going to wait and see tomorrow, was supposed to get it today but good old UPS delayed that. Fingers crossed the Platinum version is strong enough to absorb the spikes in MSFS20
