i think i might consider possibly thinking about considering the thought of the viability of using a leaf blower to blow out dust from one's PC. what do you think- should i even consider thinking about maybe possibly doing this? or are there dangers- like static build up or something? these parts aren't cheap, so if there's even a slight chance of the possibility of static ruining components then i wont even think about considering the thought of thinking about considering doing this.

Besides static, dust and dirt and that at 150+ mph hitting your board no thanks. Also the amount of pressure put on the board by your cooler and that when that much air hits it = bad things happening.

I bought a small compressor and that is all I use it for. It stays indoors and I have been using it for years.
Some guys worry about moisture but it has not been an issue at all.

Always use canned air or a static free cloth to clean out your PC. I try to clean mine every few months. I would do it more often if I was in a very dusty house but I'm not.

If you really wanted an "extreme clean" you can do one of the following: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?is=REG&sku=599911&Q=&O=&A=details which is a low-velocity vacuum that is safe on electronics. You could also use the combination of compressed air and vacuum. Leave a vacuum hose running about a foot or more away from electronics. The vaccum will suction the dust you just disturbed and avoid recycling the mess back into your case. I personally use a hobby-grade air compressor that I also paint models with--the thing works wonders on PC cleaning. Something like these: http://www.hobbylinc.com/airbrush_compressors Best thing about it is that I never have to buy compressed air or worry about the orientation of the can (so that it doesn't exhaust liquid-whatever all over my parts!)

I don't see what the problem is? I've always used a leafblower to clean out PC's. Not only is it more effective, but it's more cost effective as well. I have no issues with static electricity, and as long as you keep the area where you're doing it clean (you can eat off the floor in my garage), you're fine.
Please note that I do not just start blowing my PC's out willy nilly, however. I take great care in the preparation and execution when using my Echo leaf blower while doing it:
1) Remove all side panels
2) Immobilze the fan blades inside the case (or remove the fans altogether)
3) Use only as much air as you need (use a leaf blower with a throttle)
4) Remove all cards/modules (soundcards, RAM, NICs, GPUs, etc.)
5) Always blow air at an angle, never straight on

seemed like a leaf blower might work, but just wasnt confident about it. i think i'll stick with the canned air for now. but man, i really wanted someone to say no worries- would be so convenient to just fire that bad-dog up and be done with it.. i guess i sorta knew it wasnt a good idea. was just lookin for an excuse. no trolling.
ps- @ zophar: i changed that cooler out a long time ago, after a bout with the "6gb 3gb usable" debacle.

reduce it down to a garden hose, blow it out with that...carfully.
rubber reducer with hose clamps = lows
5 foot of old garden hose = garage, under work bench

I have used a leaf blower to clean out my pc for 5 years now and have had no issues what so ever... I have one clean computer... You do want to wedge something in the fans so u dont blow out the bearings...

I use my dyson. I really should clean my PC now but I'm lazy atm. dust is starting to permeate into the disc drive. >.<
If I don't clean it once a week it turns into a nightmare.

Metro data vac can be had for 40 some bux, it's powerful enough that it gets all the dust from all the nooks and crannies (even the PSU) but not so powerful you risk blowing a capacitor right off the motherboard. Leaf blower = over kill. Canned air = too expensive. think about it, Leaf blower your risking not only fan damage but component damage as well, Also a leaf blowers intake is not filtered, so what it sucks in get blown out at high speeds. One time pay for the data vac (can be found for cheaper) covers 5 cans of canned air (maybe more, or less depends on where you are) and it's a work horse. All steel construction, no plastic crap, made to last built like a tank. Use it for youe PC, your KB and whatever else.... Just get one, TONS in this forum alone swear by it, me included.

After some searching I've found out some people use a leaf blower as a means to clean your PC from dust. I am tempted to try it, but before I do I would like a confirmation that it can't harm the components, assuming I don't actually touch them with the blower.

150psi air compressor blast. works fine. I put the PC next to my basement exhaust so I dont breath all that in and I go for broke. going on 10 years now.
