Hi EVGA support It's being almost two weeks since I have ordered the thermal pad mod for my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW ACX3.0. Why does it take so long for the pads to ship? When can I be expecting to receive them? Thanks in advance

Mine just shipped, after two week wait. Things will probably speed up from here on out, as when I ordered supplies hadn't been fully secured and changes due to the VRAM addition were finalized. It's go time! Hang tough! Things are on the move!

My pads came in a little under a week going from California to Massachusetts: UPDATE:Installed all the pads, there is great contact across all surfaces, and the VRAM pads are more than thick enough. No picture since I don't have a camera that can properly capture the image with the card assembled.

My 1080 FTW ACX is sort-of cool. Then again, that's because it's uninstalled, and in a box, waiting to be returned under warranty, as it decided to sacrifice itself to the Lord of Light.. I hate being part of the group that had issues. Running 1400p144 on a 780 is just not feasible. My room stinks and the smell has made me sick.. Coupled with that collateral price to get a replacement within a business week, this all makes me a sad panda.

etienne0601 After updating the BIOS from the default my card shipped with, to the latest version, my idle temps have jumped by about 5 degrees. I have a 1070 FWT DT. Unfortunately I did not backup the previous version. My idle temps went up from 47 to 52 degrees. Anyone else notice something similar ?
Same happened to me. Mine used to idle at 36-39c, and now they sit idle at 45-50c+ after updating. I also did a clean install of drivers just in case, but no change. Currently back and forth with tech support.

In this thread's OP, it is said by Jacob: "All graphics cards shipped from EVGA after 11/1/2016 will have the VBIOS update applied." And in this post, Jacob says that cards shipped after 11/1/2016 also have fixed VRAM thermal pads. But, do all graphics cards shipped after November 1st also have backplate, VRM thermal pads installed? I'm asking because calling the mod "optional" makes that part a bit unclear.

Just re-update your PRIMARY BIOS and you get the 0rpm (up to 55 degrees) again. I did, and my card is dead silent. I did have the same issue with noise, and I figured out why. I did install Primary AND Secondary update. It gave me a noisy card. Re-updated Primary, and everything is fine. Remember to check if you have set the bios to Primary on the card.....very important!

I have updated my GTX 1080 SC (08G-P4-6183) BIOS to 84.04.3B.00.82. Now, when GPU under load, the fan RPM spikes to 3000+ every few seconds. Is this normal? Is there a way to set thresholds and configure the fan speed profile on my own?

Hello Hanson, I have uploaded the original firmware of my 08G-P4-6171-KR, the way i received my GTX 1070 ACS3.0 when i bought it (i have Samsung RAM, so i did not implement that other update regarding Micron RAM). By the way, i didn't realize any sound increase with the new firmware, and hey....i live in Brazil, with ambient temperature always at 30ºC+ . Dang it, the forum will not permit linking to files, as i have less then 10 posts! Best Regards

I have the GTX 1080 FTW. I have already flashed both primary and secondary bios. The thermal pads arrived for me yesterday and I installed them. I used my own Tuniq TX-4 thermal paste instead of what came in the kit. I tested the card after putting it all back together. I'm seeing a 10-11 degree DROP in temps while playing Battlefield 1 for about 45 minutes. Ambient temp was 73 degrees F. Could this be attributed more to the TX-4 paste or the thermal pads? Just curious. Install was simple.. just tedious. GPU temp BEFORE mod during BF1 - Ambient temp 73F --- 58C GPU temp AFTER mod during BF1 - Ambient temp 73F --- 47C

You're welcome :) Obviously I don't know the answer to you problem, would have helped if i could. Wouldn't wish reading this thread on anybody as it's a study in base humanity, bickering and misinformation from peeps with a unreasonably high regard for their own mental acuity. With just a few pearls of wisdom interspersed. If you want an answer to a specific issue, best to either start a thread about it, or contact support themselves. If you do read this thread and others let someone know where you are going, and ask them to check on you after an hour. My smillie, answer was just to lighten the mood a bit. (my humor is eclectic)

I've seen the theory that the improper contact of memory and cooling plate might have heated up the GPU as the memory chips dissipate their heat into the PCB surrounding the GPU itself, leading to a warmer GPU.

I've always been under the impression VRAM is the most 'delicate' IC on a GPU board, and it also has the lowest max operating temp. I'd be most worried about the VRAM itself, if not in contact with a thermal pad. The modules are now getting pushed to a very high frequency, and require a heatsink mounted on them. Coupled with the fact they have no individual thermal sensor it's worrying to hear the thermal pads not touching so many modules on so many cards
