Hello All

Can you help me?

I not understand this : "EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 (For Dual BIOS cards, card must be set to BIOS that is being flashed)

If you can reply in French it's cool, i have a 1080 FTW 08G-P4-6286-KR

Ok, sorry, my French is really bad!! Anyway, on the front side of the card (The thin part with EVGA led written on it as you look in PC when installed) There is a very small switch that unless looking for it can easily be missed. Just check and you will find it. All cards are shipped with the primary Bios active, a lot of people don't even know there is a secondary bios. That switch can be moved to the left after moving it it will activate the secondary bios. You are surely on the primary bios otherwise you wouldn't have posted this question. So if you want to flash only the primary bios (like I did) you don't need to do anything at all except download and install the primary bios. The secondary bios is the same procedure but you MUST move that tiny switch first. I doubt you need to do that however. When you find/see that switch you will instantly understand. (I didn't even check that switch as I never use secondary bios - like you I guess.) So, nothing to do except down/load and install primary. If you wish to check that switch then you will find it very quickly as above. Just remember it's small, so not obvious unless looking for it.

Thank for your reply, now i know which bios i need to download and install..

Just a  last question, what is the interest to have 2 bios? i never switch the tiny switch (as you say) so why we have 2 bios ?

Thanks

The Second bios (slave mode) disables 0db fan mode, allows a higher power target, and I think something else. I don't recall, I leave mine in slave mode all the time.

Is there any temp sensor on the VRMs on the 1080?
My 1080SC is running cool as ever with my own fan profiles.

I've been warning people LONG AGO that the stock EVGA fan profiles were broken and not utilizing the fans of the ACX properly, shame that this issue got addressed so late.

Could you share a screenshot of your fan profile settings please ?
Thanks

Me to.
Looks like a lot of folks in the UK received them today. Now just waiting on my Thermal Grizzly to turn up. Though I suspect the paste they supply would be fine.

Same here, just arrived for me as well. 1st class mail, meaning they must have sent them off yesterday - guess that means they got their shipment over the weekend or Monday and started to mail them out. Still says "awaiting shipment" on the page, so I guess it the system only tracks US mailings (probably because of the state of their EU warehouse).

Looks like I got a weekend project now!

Just finished adding the thermal pads to my 1080 FTW. I did not bother with the additional VRAM pads since mine appear to be fine. To be honest I was not planning on doing the mod (since my card has been running well for five monhs), but I ordered the pads and they arrived, so I decided to do it.

Just make sure to use enough thermal paste when re-installing the heatsink. I used a "grain of rice sized" blob and the card started running hot. When I opened it back up, I noticed that the thermal paste was not covering the whole chip. I applied a larger glob the second time around and now it seems to be operating as before.

All in all I do not think it was necessary, but I like tinkering with things and this was an excuse to take apart my card and see what it looks like on the inside.

The thermal pad mod for the Power Phases was a good idea, seeing as the new fan profile with the bios update only partially solved that issue, the Power delivery was still running a little bit too hot for my comfort zone, and these pads brought it well within check. So, for those of us who saw what the temperatures were before and after, it does make a difference.

there's a hidden 'feature' of this BIOS update... it also disables GPU boost.

Gladly... See attached hwmonitor min/max values after a admittedly somewhat brief gaming session. Temps stay nicely around 72C, fans are screaming, but the gpu clock and memory clock are locked at 1709/5005. Never once has it boosted since applying this BIOS update.

Well thats new, so i guess im going to stay away from the new bios and just rely on my own fan curves and apply that pad fix when ever they arrive.

Edit; Thanks for the heads up.

Edit2; Just had a quick look and seems that people are having memory speed issues with the newest driver from nvidia, perhaps its related to that.

I'd definitely reccomend not using this update. I'm really shocked no one has pointed this out yet and called out evga on such a shady move. My SC card is now slower than a founders edition, or ANY other 1080 for that matter.

So... is it possible to revert to the original BIOS?  I installed the thermal mod on my 1080 SC today and I'd rather go back to the quieter default profile, and boost really is disabled/not working, I'd really like to revert.

i don't think its related to any driver issues. the memory is running at the correct speed, and there is no 'boost' feature for memory so i'm not concerned with that. I'm only upset about the gpu clock speed being stuck at 1709mhz no matter what. idle on the desktop = 1709, full load = 1709. boost, and downclocking just doesn't exist in this new bios.

I think the problem is the new version of HWMonitor. I have the old bios with a custom fancurve and I saw this same behaviour with HWMonitor. EVGA Precision X still shows correct clock speeds.

Same for me. GPU-Z shows the correct clock and that it is actually boosting properly.

No it's not slower. The issue is HW Monitor and NOT the card. So your post is useless.

Can anyone upload the original BIOS 08G-P4-6171-KR? The new one is to noisy for me in the end.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Hanson,
I have uploaded the original firmware of my 08G-P4-6171-KR, the way i received my GTX 1070 ACS3.0 when i bought it (i have Samsung RAM, so i did not implement that other update regarding Micron RAM).

By the way, i didn't realize any sound increase with the new firmware, and hey....i live in Brazil, with ambient temperature always at 30ºC+ .

Dang it, the forum will not permit linking to files, as i have less then 10 posts!

Best Regards

Fala cara blza!

Vc instalou a nova bios? e os thermal pads? a temperatura e o ruído como ficaram? o fan liga a partir de quantos graus?

eu tenho uma 1070 ACX 3.0 e ainda não atualizei a bios e os pads não chegaram ainda

Question for those with the 1070 FTW that have done the bios and both pad mods. What is the temp in Precision X OC temp while idling?

Nope! Mine still boost perfectly after bios update. Stop spreading false information please.

Using Nvidia driver 375.76.  Boost is there with bios update.

From recently thermal pad modded 1070 FTW:
29°c at idle (0% fan).
65°c max temp running Unigine Heaven (Ultra) at 1440p, fan 34% max (1100rpm).
4x 140mm case fans. Ambient temp of only 14.5°c!

I use my rig for college and work. I have the new bios update for the Superclocked 1080, but should I still be worried about the possibility of it failing? I have an x99 motherboard, so I don't have on-board graphics which is why the news of failing 1080's kind of scares me.

I am running about 33C at idle with ambient temps at 20C
also full load on heaven 70C when overclocked at 50% fan speed

Just done the thermal pad mod myself. Easy enough to do if you take care.

Was more than a little shocked to see that the thermal pads on the VRAM modules (IE. memory) closest to the VRM circuitry, appeared to have zero contact with the thermal pads. Not a sign of thermal grease on them. The other VRAM modules looked to have had partial contact. I know that a few people have commented on this already. But had sort of assumed that it was just a few isolated cases. It just looks like to me, that EVGA plain and simple, used pads that were not thick enough. The "optional" (EVGA's words) thermal pad kit that they are sending out, has new pads for the VRAM modules and they are a fair bit thicker. Got to be honest, I would consider this mod more than "optional". At least as far as the thermal pads on the VRAM modules, I would definitely consider this as a manufacturing defect!

Just thought I'd mention the above. Just in case anyone is thinking that these mods are "optional".
Only my opinion/s folks, not looking for a flame (sic) war.

Has anyone tried installing Linux since updating this firmware?  I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and OpenSUSE.  What I'm seeing is that the mouse cursor gets stuck at the top left corner as soon as the gui appears and it will not move.  I've tried different "known good" mice and different ports (USB) and they all do the same thing.  Windows 10 works fine with both the mice and same ports.  I don't know if this has anything at all to do with this issue but it was working fine before.  Is it even remotely possible that the video card firmware could have anything to do with this?  I'm running an EVGA 1070 FTW card.
