During the install I got a black screen/crash on the part where it said "Removing graphics driver" which required me to reboot my comp. When I did my screen resolution had changed from 1980x1080 to 1280x1024, also the theme was changed to the default theme. I tried the clean install again with no success. PhysX System Software failing to install again.

Take note that I've been having problems with my computer where it would crash when I played graphic intense games which is why I'm attempting a clean install.

Sorry for all these questions.

NP bro, sorry your having issues

You "appear" to have broken the uninstall paths
This most often happens if trying to uninstall in SafeMode or deleting a folder while the driver is still loaded.

Did you do so? can you remember "when" this occurred?
It may be possible to "restore" back before you did the damage....
*Note: if you have used ANY registry cleaning software, you MUST NOT attempt to restore as it will not work.

If doing a clean install in safe mode counts as an uninstall in safe mode, then yes I have tried to uninstall in safe mode.
Unfortunately, I don't remember when I did this as I've been having this problem for about 2-3 months now.

Is there any other way that may be able to fix it without system restore?
I'm planning to take it in to the shop for them to have a look and hopefully fix.

Yeah, a Install in safe mode would certainly break PhysX

I suggest you get -anything- important (photos, Docs, Etc) backed up (burned to disk or USB drive)
Before doing anything else

Then it will be time to attempt a registry clean (what they will do if you take it in)
Should that fail or damage your current OS install, you will be reformatting

I would like to walk you thru this personally
I will PM you my phone number bro (if you live in the U.S.) and lets see if we cant get you fixed up
*check your PMs

I got your PM but i'm unable to reply to you via PM so I'll just post my reply here.
Unfortunately I don't live in the US plus I've got a lot of files I want to backup (around 300gb) and don't a hard drive to do so.
I think I'll just have to take it in tomorrow.

I'd just like to thank you for the help you've given me and for even attempting to help me via phone.
Thank you again!

No problem

Do you have a mic and TS3? we could use EVGA's TS3 if your english is good enough?

Note of caution: if you going to be taking it "in" somewhere, they are going to be running a registry cleaner.
In skilled hands, this is quite easy and the risk of damge to the OS is very very low....
However: many places you "take in" a computer will run AV scans, registry cleaners and will often come up with either "you have more problems than you thought" or even worse, a amateur tech will botch the job...
I would never "take" my computer to anyone, without backing up that "which I cannot afford to lose"
Thats not 300GB, thats just things like my family pictures, contacts list and anything like CODES or Passwords.
Anything else might be a huge hassle.... but they are not anything I couldnt live without

Is TS3 teamspeak? If so I can get it and yes I have a mic.

also do you think that running a registery cleaner would fix the problems with black screens and crashes whenever I play a graphic intese game?

That is unknown, we would have to go over your config details

Get the TS3 "Client" for your OS version HERE:
http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

Here is the EVGA TS3 server login information:
Address: 216.52.148.144
Port: 9987

Just PM me sometime and we can meet up and talk over things

The problem i seem to be having is window update keep finding a set and reinstalling some old version of the drivers.  I did go through and delete all nvida updates from the software distribution file in system. Heres what i got:
Windows 7 64
EVGA nvida GTX 560
Old drivers deleted 310.70
New Drivers currently waiting on desktop 310.90
The Drivers that keep appearing after install 301.42
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the EVGA forums

You can simply run the new 310.90 installer.
-->You do NOT have to uninstall your previous Nvidia drivers anymore (as long as its a 300.xx or higher series)

Just Launch the installer
Choose Custom Mode, uncheck all entries except for PhysX
IMPORTANT: Make SURE to put a checkbox where it says "Perform a Clean install"
When the Driver install is complete, you should always reboot once back to the desktop

Thats it

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To--> STOP Windows from putting in a Nvidia driver
*It will attempt to do so if you leave it at the default settings
This is done in Windows update using the "Change settings" option on the left panel
Change the way you receive updates to "Check for Updates, but let me choose to download and install them"
Click OK and save the change

Hi maniac,

Is it possible for the latest beta drivers 313 to have caused EVGA precisionX to be unable to change fan speeds. As changing my fan speeds and increasing them 40% doesn't change the temperature 1 degree.

If thats possible is it possible that the temperature being reported is also wrong?

You MUST NOT have Precision installed and running when changing Nvidia drivers.

It appears you have corrupted Precison

NoT a big deal, its a easy fix
you -must- follow the steps below exactly
----------------------------------------------------

Open Precision
In the top right hand corner, use the "X" and close the program
Now go to Start/All Programs
Find the yellow EVGA Precision folder and open it
at the bottom is a "Uninstaller"--> launch it
When you launch the uninstaller a box will pop up asking if "you want to save profiles and data...."
-->You -MUST- answer NO and NOT save that information
-After the uninstall is complete-
You must reboot once back to the desktop (do NOT skip this reboot)

After rebooting, you can reinstall Precision
It just got messed up
*uninstalling correctly (and not saving the data and profiles) will fix it

I did all of that and even after ramping it up to 85% from 40% the gpu actually cooled it 1-2C cooler so I guess it kind of worked?. Evga precision is reporting an increase in fan speed, tach and RPM though. Could it still be corrupted? or could it just be that the extra air going past can't physically cool it any better? (Accelero xtreme 3).

Is this at Idle?
Push the fan speed to max and run it under a load, then open Precision and view the temp data

I see you are using a aftermarket cooler, is this brand new?

64/65C at 40%(1290RPM) after 5 minutes
61 at 85%(1890RPM) after 5 minutes
32-33 Ambient
EDIT: Using EVGA OC SCANNER

Thats the load temps. its not brand new but not old either. I may just be concerned over nothing I guess it just seems wrong that 600 rpm does essentially nothing.

I do apologize if all this achieves is wasted time :(

Maniacvvv, just a curiosity question. The first post in this guide was written some 3 years ago. Is it still the correct guide now that kepler has been released and we are into newer versions of drivers? I ask because I am still using it and advising others on other forums of the procedure (always linking to this thread). I would hate to be giving bad advice. I am still using it and have had no problems.

If you check post 2 and 3 further down he has added and edited information as needed. I see an edit he made on February 2 in 2012. He is very good about keeping his guides up to date or he simply writes a brand new one.

Re:Ultimate Nvidia Driver Guide for Uninstalling and Installing driversets 2013/02/07 12:33:33 (permalink)
Im new to computer world. after building my pc (3570k with gtx 670 ftw) I was under impression that installing drivers was as simple as going on geforce website and click install. After installing my first driver august of 2012 everything worked fine up until now. Now that crysis 3 is coming out i decided to update to new 313.96 beta driver. Once again i simply went on geforce website and click install for the new driver. I was under the impression that old drivers do not need to be deleted. I thought that new driver will simply replace the old driver.  Everything was going good when i was playing crysis 3 beta until i decided to play my older games. once i loaded up xcom, it became very lagy. Then i decided to play natural selection 2 and thats when i started to get black computer screen that would not go away until i did hard reset. after reset i tried to play natural selection again thinking it was just a bug and once again my screen went black. I thought that maybe the driver was bad so went to geforce and simply reinstalled 310 driver (once again thinking that new one replaces the old one without the need of deleting anything). So far my old games seem to run fine but i dont know only played them for about half an hour.  What do you guys recommend I do? should i go and delete drivers and re install them? please be detailed as i am new to pc world. Thank you!

You do not delete or uninstall drivers anymore

You use "Custom Mode" with the "perform a clean install option" checked

Here are the instructions:  http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1776355
*It is suggested to "uncheck" all driver components
-->except for the Graphics driver and PhysX (all the others are NOT needed)
and make -sure- to place a checkbox in "perform a Clean install"

Be aware that with "older" games, newer driversets may not work correctly

You think my screen went black because 313 beta driver was somehow not compatible with natural selection 2? Also do you think I should try reinstalling 313 driver or you think I'll run into same problem and I should wait for newer driver. Thank you for all the info!

Yes, but remember--> you do NOT uninstall!!
Just run the installer in Custom Mode, all entries unchecked but PhysX and put a check box in "perform a clean install"
