texinga So, a few questions come to mind reading the posts about this "latest BIOS" for 14th Gen Intel.- Is EVGA going to make this new Z790 BIOS available to all of us or do we have to do something specific to get it? I Just checked the EVGA Mobo Support webpage for this BIOS and its only showing the old March 2023 versions (for Classified and Dark).
- Is the "new" BIOS for both the Classified and Dark Z790?
Thanks
It’s currently in beta, so not released publicly yet. To my knowledge, it’s for both the Z790 boards, but I was just sent the one for a Dark as that’s what I have.

The one I was sent is named E799_117_FINAL_BETA.bin - which is Beta BIOS v1.17, and E799 is the Dark KingPin model, so there may be a separate E798 BIOS for the Classy. Hopefully EVGA will see this and comment accordingly. edit: I've emailed Chris at EVGA to ask about the Classy. I'll update this thread when and if I get a response. edit 2: Chris responded already, and yes there is a separate one for the Classy. E798_113_FINAL_BETA.bin which I now have.

Dear EVGA Community, I can confirm that we have released a BETA BIOS update for the Current Gen. Intel Processors for both the E798 and the E799, Z790 Motherboards. Please email cbencivenga@evga.com with the serial number of your registered motherboard and I will email you the BIOS update.

Hopefully for Classified also exists. Is this something that we will need to contact EVGA Support to get it or EVGATech_ChrisB will publish these BETA BIOS to forums? UPDATE: Okay EVGATech_ChrisB already answered some of questions.

Hi, I got a call and follow up email from Chris as well, regarding two new beta BIOSs for Z790 boards, Classified and KingPin. The email message is: "Thank you for your time on the phone and attached is the BETA BIOS for the E798 and E799 MBs which can support the current gen Intel processors. Also please take note that EVGA strongly suggest using the current BIOS unless you want to use a current next Gen CPU and only flash to #3 on the Motherboard so you can go back to previous BIOS if any issues. Sincerely, Chris Bencivenga EVGA Operations Manager" He stated I can share them. That is total non sense. How is it that every single other brand supports all 3 gen’s on their motherboards. Even B660 boards support 12-14th gen.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking about the same thing. Oh well. It is what it is. Although, I did read a while back of someone doing a small Notepad edit to a Z790 bios to make it work on a Z690. Supposedly, it was successful. I'm even tempted to try it. I mean i could always flash back I would hope lol.

yeh I thought that bit was a notch of malarkey myself.. I did get the call from Chris yesterday (Thank you Chris!) , unfortunately it's "too little, too late" on my end since I sold the Z790 board a month ago, got an Apex Encore (insanely awesome mobo btw I've got a 14900KS running over 6.5ghz stable [6.1 ghz pcore] on AIO with the PTM7950 pads as recommended in the other thread regarding 4090 temps). Although I reached out to my Z790 Dark KP buyer (local ) to see if he wanted to try the 14th gen bios, still waiting to hear back. I am curious if anyone else has installed the bios and had any success? I would hope we could get a Z690 Dark KP 14th gen bios but not holding my breath. Z690 Dark KP was the best mobo, still running 3090 Ti KP in SLI on that rig, absolutely fantastic and the most reliable and stable build that I have in the arsenal. I really love EVGA but I also really hate EVGA so I'm not going to take that survey that you guys requested in the email, you do NOT wanna know what I really think. lol

I still don't feel bad returning my Classified given how it's STILL a Beta Bios and taken this long... And I still have a Z690MB which almost all MB makers managed to make work with 14th Gen and EVGA couldn't. It's just sad, isn't it?

Anyone using this new beta BIOS with a 14th gen chip, could you give info on the included CPU microcodes? Nvm, it’s 122 only, that’s somewhat unfortunate.

This is a 'final' beta release, meaning there will be no more from EVGA. This is the end of the road.

Updated the BIOS and threw a 14900KS in the board, limited it to 320w and 400A IccMax (through XTU on the latter setting as I could not find a similar setting in the BIOS) to comply with Intel's "Extreme Power Delivery" profile, and it seems to work great so far. If I left it uncapped and ran something like Cinebench R23, it hit over 400w and 100c almost instantly on a Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420, so this is a nice middle ground for me so far.

Hi everyone,
With this BETA bios release, I would like to know what my options are.
I have a brand new motherboard, Z790 KingPin.
I need to buy a CPU. Should I get 13900KF or 14900KF?
From other postings, it seems the beta bios only permits the 14th gen CPUs, but it seems to may be missing everything else that has happened since these CPUs were released.
So what should I do?
I already have the other components to build the system: RAM, NVME, PS, Case, AIO, GPU.
Thanks.

The beta BIOS should allow the 14900KF to be recognized, but it's unclear if any/all other functionality will be present. It will not have APO or latest micro-code, security updates, etc. The 13900KF should work fine, but it also won't have APO or the latest security patches. If you really want to run the EVGA board, I'd stick with 13th gen CPUs.

Thanks for the reply. If the board supports 13th Gen, from their regular / latest non beta BIOS, how will it miss having the latest APO, or security patches on the 13th Gen CPU? Is there a direct comparison to other board manufacturers BIOS to that of EVGA BIOS when it comes to APO and security patches?

(my post disappeared, so re-posting): No, there's no direct comparison, other than you can look at the features that were present at the last actual BIOS update, which was May 4th, 2023, and that was a beta version with specific fixes for memory. The last full feature-updating release was March 24th, 2023. So any security patches, micro-code updates, APO (which launched with 14th gen), etc. that came out after that have not been added to EVGA bios versions. The latest bios, according to EVGA support, only adds functional support of 14th gen CPUs (no additional bug fixes or features were added as far as they've announced). APO was originally launched for 14th gen and Intel have since added 13th gen support, but it requires a supported bios, which EVGA has not provided as far as I am aware. The Intel ME firmware is outdated. There's a known security bug that was updated late 2023 by other vendors that fixes some vulnerability with the splash screen logo usage (you can google that one for info). I think there are other security updates and possibly micro-code updates that other vendors have provided as well, but not EVGA. If you don't care about those features and security patches, then it'll run 13th gen just fine. I am currently running an EVGA z690 with 13900k for example and I have no issues. I don't have APO support (not sure what I'd gain from it as I don't play games they've specifically tested with it...I'd try it, but can't), I don't use ME, and I'm just hoping for the best on any security stuff (I turn off memory integrity and some of it anyway as it impacts performance lol). So it's really up to you and what you want from the motherboard.
