I bought the 3090 EVGA ULTRA through NZXT (they are pre building it). I heard these GPUs have been faulty. They haven’t started building the order yet so do you think I should cancel the order and wait until they have another brand of 3090 in stock or do you think that the problems associated with these graphics card have been solved?

In my opinion you should not cancel. My 3090 ftw3 Ultra is pretty beastly. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen numerous of issues in various forms of people complaining that their graphics card bricked which prompted incessant RMAs. I’m not sure if this is a response bias were only those that have had the worst problems will post thus missing the majority of people who are unlikely to post something if everything is good?

Just a bit concerned because I am spending $5500 on this computer including tax because I also got the 5950 X Ryzen

Don't cancel.... if you get a unit that has issues, you can always RMA... in this current environment, who knows how long you would be waiting for another card to become available.

Thank you for the great response. you have a great point! I do notice that this company has stellar customer service and have had reports of people getting a new graphics card within a few days if there was an issue. This sets them apart apart from the competitors. Lastly, I’m sure since my graphics card will be considered the newer ones with newer batches since I just bought it may be the aforementioned issues are rectified

If its a newer card it may have the voltage issues already fixed. If its not, you can see about getting it replaced under the special 3090oc@evga.com RMA program for power balance issue cards. See the 500w XOC thread on the forum for more info on that. I am not concerned about the new revision failing in me. I have put it through a lot of stress testing. Also, buy the extended warranty if you can to get it up to 5 years for only 30 bucks.

Outstanding reply thank you very much. Since I’m having NZXT build my computer for me I am wondering how registering the graphics card would work if they technically bought it from the company?

What concerns, are you concerned about ?

My questions would center around why you want a 3090 / how do you plan on using the PC ?

If it is just a web browsing, gaming rig & you are Not using a 4K monitor (or better) - then your paying a premium for a premium GPU that you probably will not get significant advantage from.  3090 has more power than 3080, though if your only using a 1440 monitor, I'm not sure if your FPM will reflect the jump in price.

If you're seeing posts about 3090's having issues, just remember, you're only ever going to find people with issues with 3090's.

You will almost never see someone posting that their 3090 is running just fine, until a thread like this comes along.

Forums tend to exaggerate anything people have an issue with as anyone who is unhappy is probably going to post their frustration. People who are happy with their new products aren't going to ever post about it or even bother participating in a forum.

Do not leave the queue just because you see people with 3090's have issues. Just because they have issues, doesn't mean you will. And if you do EVGA is going to make it right by you, regardless.

    If you want a 3090, go for a 3090.

Classic example of response bias. Thank you so much for this response! As a statistician by career, I should know this… but I guess I leave my critical thinking ability at the door when it comes to gaming 😂

it depends, if you watercool your PC it is OK, if not, you can try a separate cooler on the back of the card, if not, try not to overclock the card to not reach those temps

To play cyber punk 2077 in ultra ray traced you at least a 3080 so what will you need in 5 years and of course availability which is why I have a 3090 kingpin as the wait list was shorter and i warranted it for 10 years which is why I buy EVGA

I had a 3090 FTW3 Ultra, but I traded it with someone awhile back for a Red Devil 6900 XT + MSRP cash difference. It was working just fine for the duration I actually had it....  but the guy I gave it to contacted me a few days later. He said he tried updating it with Precision X1 & the card stopped working. He explained when it was updating, the fans started spinning like crazy and the card started generating tons of heat.

Luckily for him, I was able to transfer over my registration/warranty to him and EVGA replaced the card for him.

Can you briefly explain the power balance issue?

Re: Should I cancel my 3090 EVGA ULTRA order given the concerns with that card? 2021/05/19 15:16:00 (permalink)
My personal eVGA FTW3 experience so far:
    1. 2014133987821524 - good working card - 14055 Port Royal Score - but failed to perform above 420 Watt - not to mention 500W
    2. 2112933987820135 - excellent performing card - 15208 Port Royal Score - reached 500W with Kingpin Bios - but dead after 2 weeks.
    3. 2119133987600104 - miserable piece of junk - 13307 Port Royal Score - failed even to reach 420 watt, absolute garbage.
    But the worst part is:
eVGA keeping selling those faulty cards.
Knowing their Power draw over PCIexpress bus is way over spec (there are very few fixed revisions)
Knowing the product was advertised with 450 at start, now with 500Watt max Board Power draw.
Knowing the good reviews the cards did get, knowing how far reviewer could overlock and draw power with this cards.

Customers are only getting support addressing the PCIexpress out of spec and power draw issues only if the user is actively asking via E-Mail to
    3090oc@evga.com

… I can remember what ****storm and blaming AMD got with their power draw too high via PCI express power.
But with eVGA? …. Customers get only fixed cards if they ask to.
And in 1 of 2 cases people are getting the same or even worse cards back from RMA than bevor.
I read from users who got their 5 or 6 replacement card!

And what the Situation makes it real worse:
People have to pay for retoure Label.
Some seems to get a retoure Label
Others need to par hunderts of Dollars to get their faults cards changed.

    My experience:
I have to pay everytime I had to retoure the defective product no matter if normal or advanced RMA.
Always pay for the retoure Label.
    Great Customer Support!
.... Especially considering the issue is known, and people who got a replacement via special RMA program should get a revised card - at least this was promised.
But from my experience this is not happening. And according to forum I am not alone with this issues.

And even if you get a revised card - you still won't see power maxing out at 500W.
To archive this I had to use an unofficial bios - and did this because of recommendation in the Xoc 3090 FTW3 thread - because all other Users there had the same Problem.

    But well....
This is just my experience - yours may differ :)

The gpu is insane, however if you have the money save it, I'm sure it will come  out good in the end.

The fans get very loud if you wanna keep temps below 76°C. Not recommended for silent builds.
