Well, I'm placing an order today. Wish me luck.

Have they updated the install instructions to prevent some of the issues I've seen in this thread or is there somewhere I can go to know how to do this right before my block gets here in 4-5 months?

That's the satin nickel cerakote? Looks like an off white beige color.

Kinda sucks they got rid of the real nickel plating. But glad I chose black. Let's see if I get mine before February.

Apollo,
In person it does look silver, but matte instead of polished nickel like my 3090 block.  One thing I noticed was that on the plexi, it looks like there is some residue left on it.  It has that look of condensation, but it isn't.  If you have rgb on your rig, it may come out looking like condensation thus it doesn't look right.  I may take off the front plate to clean that up before installation.  because I'm going to vertical mount this gpu the rear isn't so much a issue.  But if you need to clean your rear plexi then you'd want to clean it before you mount it as the mounting screws go through the plexi.  This wasn't an issue with the 3090, but I think it is the same thing we noticed in the pictures of the person who had posted the pictures of the incorrect installation.  Before you guys spend much time on your blocks, check it under a variety of angles in the light to see if yours has the residues.

I saw that condensation like residue from another photo and my first thought was that it came from the water leak test of the block prior to shipment.

Re: OPTIMUS SIGNATURE GPU BLOCK - KINGPIN 3090 2021/12/25 15:39:12 (permalink)
Mech9t5,
I really don't think it is leaking, but from their finishing process of the plexi.  I rubbed right off where I found on the outter face of the block.  I also thought it was leaking from the initial pictures especially with the amount flex that block was subjected to.  I still need to pressure test the block before I take off the face to clean that up.  I will get to that later today.

Merry Christmas everyone.  Be safe and enjoy your family.

Update #1:  I posted to Overclockers, but I wanted to be sure to share it here as well.  I took some time today to take apart the block and found the cold plate was not secured well and more than likely the source of the leak.  My thermal pads ripped on disassembly so it's a good thing I had bought a spare set.  Be sure to check your blocks prior to installation as I'm not sure how Optimus is testing for leaks prior to shipping with a two piece block.  I really don't think there is any way mines could have passed pressure testing as it couldn't hold any pressure steady when I initially installed the block.  Love the block still though I haven't had a chance to use it yet.  This isn't meant to deter people from buying the block, just something I wanted to share with others so their builds go smoother than mines.  Once I get the block back together I'll pressure test again and share my results.

Update #2:  I reassembled the block and it has been holding .75 bar for the last 20 minutes.  I feel comfortable moving forward with this now.  For new users please check the depth of your cold plate screws.  A visual check to see the screws were screwed in evenly is a good way along with getting your trusty screw driver to test the tension of the screws as well.  Cross patterned tensioning would be highly recommended based on what I went through.  It would save users a ton of time chasing a leak and having to redo the thermal pads again.  I had to replace 3 sets of pads as they ripped when I removed the block.  I'm looking forward with peace of mind that I was able to find the leak and pressure test the block.

Hope this helps others as I just spent like 5-8 hours of assembly and chasing the leak.

Gotspeed, block looks awesome.  Just in time for Christmas!  Good you were able to narrow down the leak.  When do you think you'll fire it up?  It looks kind of weird that the block doesnt cover the entire PCB but performance is what counts

Re: OPTIMUS SIGNATURE GPU BLOCK - KINGPIN 3090 2021/12/27 11:33:51 (permalink)
Redteamtango,
I was lucky I got my order in early, with a lot of pestering and luck I was able to get my block in right before Christmas.  There are still a bunch of us still waiting on the blocks as they have been a bit slow with the release of pre-order blocks.

Most of my PC stuff is still packed away.  With my son coming down with Covid, the contractors are not able to come to our house to continue the renovation until he is cleared.  So far, only he has tested positive.  We will know more in a few days if we have been successful in isolating him from the rest of the family.  He was vaccinated, but I think he got the Omicron variant.  No loss of smell/taste and less severe issues.  He had a fever for the first few days which broke yesterday but he still has body aches, sore throat, and sinus issues right now.  I'm hoping he gets through this soon.  I had to order a different vertical mount kit since the EK one I ordered wont fit the Optimus block without modifications.  Because we are delayed, it will still be a bit of time before I am able to fit this into my system, but atleast the block is mounted and ready to be used.

The block for the most part runs the full length of the gpu, the only issue is near the signal outputs where they cut the block short.  I still don't know why they didn't make the block go all the way through on this one.  If you horizontal mount this one you'd better make sure you have a few supports to spread the load as this completed block is heavy.  I'm trying to think of a way now to help take some of the load off the vertical mount which may require some sort of support like a post or something.  I don't have a scale, but the block is crazy heavy which is why I also question why Optimus didn't go all the way to the signal outputs like their FTW3 block.

Once I get the block installed I am hoping for some good numbers, but until the renovation is done it will be hard for me to work it into my system.

Saw this at the OCN forum: 5223 and 5224.  But this was 5 days ago.  He did not say were he got the information from:

howdyho1,
No problem.  I posted more info on the overclockers site as another member here pointed me there as well for getting more updates since Optimus replies there too.  I wanted to share so that no one else has the same issue I had.  It really perplexed me when my block couldn't hold a constant pressure.  I even ordered another EK D5 pump/res combo because I was so unsure of the seal off amazon.  Luckily I spent the time taking it apart and found the leak so I was able to cancel the order in time (saved me $250).  Searching for and finding the leak caused me to spend a bunch of time that normally I wouldn't have but because my son has Covid I can't go out so it's not as bad.  I usually am extremely busy so I guess this was one good thing to come out of him having Covid so far.

For disassembly of the block, I will share here that download the instructions on the Hydrocopper water block.  Here is the link to the the page on EVGA's site:  https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=400-HC-1999-B1

I used this and it was perfect for the removal of the hybrid kit.  The only thing is when you are removing the backplate to keep an eye on the double stick tape in the corner of the back plate.  It is really stuck on there and it was the hardest thing to break free.  I used a plastic pry bar from my PC tool kit to help break the hold on it instead of twisting the backplate back and forth.  Other than that, it was really an easy disassembly with no surprises following those instructions.  Also, on the Optimus instructions, pages 3 and 4 really should be together.  Make sure to read both pages and take into consideration both as you don't want to tighten up the rear block very much.  I just tightened it enough to get it started, and then put the terminal plate on with the first three screws on the front plate.  After I got the terminal on with the first three screws on the front plate secured well, then I put the terminal's remaining three screws through the hole in the terminal.  I then tightened the rear plate a little at a time until I could screw in the last three screws in the terminal.  Once I got the terminal secured well, then I went back and tightened the rear plate up while checking the pcb for bends.  There are only 4 screws that pressure the gpu die, so those you can go a little heavier, but the others are there just to secure the block and thermal pads.  Too much pressure on those and you will see the block bend or the pcb bend.  If you notice that, you can back off the pressure to remove the bend.

Bavor, I think on Overclockers there was a couple of people who mentioned their order shipped, but not the avalanche that we should expect now that the block is completed.  I hope they start shipping these things out in larger numbers.

Really shows how "transparent" Optimus really is.  They don't share their Christmas holiday schedule to their customers.

Do you know if Optimus is shipping this week or did they take this week off just like EVGA did. My local water cooling supply shop put out a notice on their website that there were to be closed Christmas Eve and to expect shipping on December 30 for all orders after December 23rd. Local Grocery/computer/hardware etc. stores displayed their holiday hours. It’s just good business practice to let their customers know of when they are closed for the holidays. A simple note on their website or Twitter page would suffice.   If Optimus had done this, bavor would have not asked the question if they are closed for the holidays.

I also emailed them about getting some replacement thermal pads that ripped which were included in the kit when I had to look for the leak.  I was very careful in trying to take apart the block, but I needed to use the pads I bought as spares.  I haven't heard back from them on this issue either.  When they are behind schedule like they are, I would think it would be great if they let their customers know if they were taking off for the week so that they aren't waiting around thinking they might get their products shipped this week.

I’m considering using alternative 0.5mm pads anyways. It seems as though the provided fujipoly gr45a pads are ~6 w/mk and if I’m going through this much trouble for every degree I may as well use better pads.

Brick and motar stores displaying holiday hours is a completely different issue than people waiting on their orders to be shipped...

And even if Optimus was to post it on twitter they just get bombarded with more delays complaints.

Realistically, what time frame do you guys think if I was to order a block today? 2 months, 3 months??? I just dont know if its worth the wait. I've been thinking about giving up and just using a normal 3090 ftw3, I can easily get a block for that.

The FTW3 block I ordered in October took about 6 weeks to get it.  Keep in mind that when their site says in stock, it really means they have the materials to start the process of making your block.  You can look for their blemish stock and if you don't mind the blemish usually that would be about 2-3 week delivery time.  I really like their 3080/3090 FTW3 blocks.  I have one installed on my 3090 right now that I'm using.  I ordered one for my son's pc so when I have time I am going to do his conversion.  The only thing is that I do wish they kept the nickel finish.  The cerakote colors are not shiny, they are matte so the silver looks like a flat grey or off white.  The matte black looks like the color to get.  The white is very clean too as that is the color I ordered for my son.

For the Kingpin blocks really don't know how long it's going to take for them to get past the pre-orders.  There a still people who preordered months ago still waiting on notification of shipping.  They started shipping out a few weeks ago, but ship outs have been slow.  I ordered on the very first day the pre-orders went live and I only got my block last week.

Another thing to consider is their cpu blocks.  Those are really solid as well.  I've been pretty lucky on those and get those within about 2-3 weeks.

Be aware of delays, that's the best thing I can share based on my experience.  Their blocks tend to be very good, but the time it takes for it to come in can be trying.  Their communication is a bit lacking, but understand they are a small company so expect delays if you are able to get responses.

For your reference vanilla, I ordered early November and nothing yet. After reading the message about "ships in 6 weeks" then "after preorders ship" makes me think what they actually mean is once they fulfill ALL preorders you may wait an ADDITIONAL six weeks. My estimate is mid February. I hope I'm wrong.

Those who get the blocks and can check mem temps with mining, I'd be interested in how it stacks up to my KP using "copper pads".

3090 KP stock, +900 mem 92c (72f ambient)

KP stock hybrid, +1500 mem, copper pads, small aluminum heatsink on rear 126+mhs (only yielded 4c lower temps) (72f ambient)

+1900 mem test, 131 mhs -- stock 360mm rad / hybrid combo

Have some hw coming to increase efficiency a bit more for testing to see what she can really do.

Got my block last week and have it installed on the card.  Fairly straightforward process, but was missing a screw from what they provided.  Have a set of small metric, so was able to find a replacement.  Black, not silver, but I got it installed.

Now trying to put the loop back together but am finding a slow leak under pressure testing.  Gonna try to isolate it and see if it's in the rads/tubing rather than the block itself.

Two things of note thus far:
  1. I have the Signature block the cerakote coating and the satin silver cerakote of the KPE block is quite a different look than the raw silver of the stock signature block.  I was under the impression they would be similar, but that's not so much the case. Well at at least they're both silver-ish.
  2. I'm swapping my Z590 Dark for a Z690 Apex, and tried it on the Dark to see if it would even fit.  The block will not fit into Z590 Dark primary x16 PCIe slot horizontally.  I would assume it's the same for the Z690 Dark as well.  So you plan to use the Optimus KPE block with a Z590/690 Dark, you're going to have to go with a vertical GPU mount.
