We saw this with Dual 460's.

We uninstalled the 3D vision software and have no issue since.

Thanks alot for looking into this guys. I have the poor GPU usage + stuttering/ low frame rates in BC2. Also, Mafia II randomly drops to extremely low GPU usage and the frames plummet to under 30. Sometimes it will bounce back up and it stays in the 100s without vysnc. I'm on the latest WHQL driver. Switching driver versions does not seem to help. However, I seem to remember being able to keep 60 FPS constantly in BFBC2 a few months ago, even though GPU usage wasn't maxed out, these 480s are obviously capable of dominating that game without full usage. Full usage is not what I expect, I just expect 60 FPS if my GPUs  aren't at full capacity and considering the processor and overclock I have I doubt there would be that much of a bottleneck but I guess it's possible. Too bad I don't have the 950$ to try out a 980X and see how things go from there =P

I run maxed out settings at 2048x1152 on all games, my rig is in my signature. Win 7 64 bit. I hope we can get the GPU usage issue resolved. Disabling a core on my i7 920 using affinity in task manager doesn't seem to do anything but kill my frames per second (unless I have HT on, task manager shows 8 cores since HT allows one core to act as two as far as I understand, by supporting two threads at once, but when I disable those HT cores it makes no performance difference).

But once again thanks to everyone for looking into these issues, hopefully we get them solved soon. I have had these 480s for a few months now, I hope by the time they get them working perfectly(500 dollars demands perfection, as cliche as that statement is) they aren't obsolete.

I'm going to try to delete those 3D drivers since I don't use 3D (yet) and see if that helps at all. As soon as a get home from the hospital I'll try that. Just had my first baby (girl) =P

i wonder if it something else besides the drivers.  I could not get above 50% gpu usage on my old system but since i built the new one this week i have had gpu usage in the 90's% and my frame rates are great even better then review sites and i do not overclock.  and i am using the same exact drivers are was before.  i know i eliminated the bottle neck but alot of you out there with the problem dont have a bottleneck.  so this might be something else we are not seeing

The low gpu usage thing is an SLI problem.  Running one card gets high usage and stable framerates.   But with 2 cards in SLI the gpu usage drops and raises and usually hangs around 50% or lower for both cards.  Lower GPU usage and lower framerates, it would be fine if it were low usage and high framerates meaning the cards are handling the game good.  But its low usage and low frames meaning the game isn't using SLI properly.    Lowering the settings may increase performance a tad but not much and two cards should be running the game alot faster than one card.

This has been a problem since the game was released for alot of people.  And in my opinion its way too little way too late.  It should have been fixed the first week it was out.  Or at least the first patch.  Or the first month.  Or something lol,  but why fix it when you already have my money yea?

EDIT  last statement wasn't aimed at EVGA,  but Nvidia and Gearbox

Is this a update news for players who have sli or a small fix for dx10 users? I play dx11 with bfbc 2 and i NEVER had any stutters cuz i have a quad and gtx 460. Sorry for the confusion but i wasn't sure what we are talking about in this thread? I DO hear that gtx 470 users have stutters in this game and i wonder why aren't they just enabling dx11 in settings.ini instead of playing dx10 or did i get my info wrong here? Care to clarify?

Please help me earn some bucks to save money in the future as a team player and gamer!

I think the stuttering is something that you get used to with this game. Since you guys have been bringing it up lately, I have actually begun to notice it. Before, I thought nothing of it really. Maybe some people are more sensitive to it than others.

HOW HAS DNOTTIS NOT GOTTEN A BR FOR ANY OF HIS VARIOUS THREADS ON INFORMATION ABOUT THIS ISSUE??? Sorry for all caps people but srsly. I'm requesting one for him right now.

Thank you DNOTTIS for all of your help regarding this issue, as well as keeping us informed. If they did indeed find the issue, then I will resume playing very shortly. Did they say the fix was regarding low GPU usage as well? Or just specifically to BC2?

Thanks guys!!!  really appreciate it!!

As for low GPU usage.  From what Manuel and I discussed the multi core optimizations and GPU usage will be related.  I'm guessing whatever the optimization is that is causing the problem is causing the GPU usage to bounce so much.  I guess we'll see soon.   Also, they wanted us to test any other games that benefit from disabling one core to fix the stutter.  Again, I think this optimization might affect more than just BF BC2.

...just missed this - another update from Manuel...

The CPU usage for the most part will be fixed as well. The only exception are cases where the CPU is truly the bottleneck.

So far I have read the following games are also stuttering is some cases:

1) Prototype
2) Crysis
3) Dirt 2

In the game Prototype, does this occur in every level? For all three of the games, does the stuttering occur in single player and multiplayer or only multiplayer?

The comment about usage before, he mis-spoke and meant to say GPU usage.  Also, they are looking for other games that disabling one core fixes the stutter.  Here's why...

Sorry. I meant to say GPU.

Most of the stuttering comes from invariant shader recompilation in background of the game thread. The fix applies only to this games so if there are other games that show micro-stuttering, the fix for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will not fix it. This is why I am asking for other games which users see micro-stutter so that we can take a look at those as well.

Only game I see this stuttering in is BC2.  Disabling one of the cores seems to fix it. Hopefully they get this new driver out soon because disabling a core every time I want to play is frustrating.

I hear ya, thats my fix right now as well.  But I've been dealing with this since April, so disabling one core and playing BF BC2 is a breath of fresh air to me.  For the first time in months I can play BF BC2 with a GTX 480.  Its a minor annoyance.  You can create a shortcut to the .exe that disables one core when you start it if it bothers u that much.  I believe Eleet is the app that can do that.

For those of you disabling a core to fix the stutter, do you have hyper threading on? Basically I'm trying to figure out if disabling a virtual core makes a difference or if you have to disable an actual one.

Antec 1200
HX1000
i7-950 4.2ghz (H70)
6 gb dominator gt 1600
EVGA X58 3 Way
EVGA GTX480SC SLi x 2
1 Bluray + 1 Dvd
1tb HDD
2 x 64gb Kingston SSDs (boot disc on a 30 gb partition, put my games on the rest of the space available)

Nope.  I've had it disabled for awhile now.

hrmm I just disable them in device manager.  Then again I'm using a PCI-e X-FI Titanium.  I don't have any sound related issues though.

Are you sure that you have no irq conflicts?
