So with the z690 dark kingpin being $829 how much do you guys think the z790 dark kingpin will be? $1000?

Doubt it.  2020-2021 pricing leverage is gone imo.  The "real" price of the board was $500.  Only the dopes like me paid $900 at launch

maybe 600-700

With z790 motherboards like the GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS MASTER out having many of the same features costing $500 and MSI MEG Z790 Godlike having those same features (and an additional 2.5 Gbps network plug) but for $1200, I think you have your range.

those mobos are useless. overpriced ****. the only competitor to the dark is the apex. and according to an asus rep it should cost the same as the hero. but retailers might charge 100$ more.. just because its an apex...

For upgradeability reasons (and due to there not being enough lanes to make a second x16) I want a PCIe 5.0 M.2 on the board. I do wish we had a true second PCIe x16, I prefer the idea of an M.2 card (not having storage buried under a video card is based).

$829 for an old version is overpriced. Two weeks ago, I bought a z690 Kingpin for $450.

The same reason Nvidia allowed prices to go up just before 40 series announcement.

It's a marketing trick where they try to make customers think the price of the new unit is not so outrageous when it really is.

board is very strong, well worth the money imo. does it make sense for 90% of users to buy a board made for xoc? absolutely not. but people will buy it bc it's well engineered and they want the high end components. evga selling it for 4-5 hundred on sale doesn't make it worth so much less.

z690 dark kp + raptor lake with a strong bin of a die is a very capable combination. my best mem valid is now over DDR5-9400 and I expect i'll see 10000 on z790.

I'd assume there is some pressure to get the boards selling before Thanksgiving (really asap), since so many other z790 boards have been available for weeks now. I believe November 11th is the best guess I read somewhere.

Oh snap, the Classified now features the rotated socket as well!

I completely agree with rotated CPU socket (server style) motherboards which I support and preffer 100% with all my heart, Well done EVGA

As we are waiting for these Mobos to release, what memory are you guys going with. I am thinking of GSkill 6000 cas 36 right now but with all these crazy fast speeds coming I might go higher

Some gskill 7200 or 7600 is my plan and then see how high I can push it. Personally I'd go higher if I were you but if you want a good deal on some barely used 6000 c36 gskill Z5 RGB you can PM me.

My associates code is O1RWT3TOQ5NNXP8 if you wanna help !e get my EVGA score up :)

Last night some friends and I were doing a little friendly bench sesh where we pushed each other on frequency. This was the best I could do with 2 sticks and cold IMC: https://valid.x86.fr/qiliyj (DDR5-9632). Z690 Dark.

My friend did DDR5-9980 on z690 Unify X. 10000 on retail hardware is in sight. https://valid.x86.fr/a53pxq

I am itching to get my hands on the 14 layer Dark KP. Please drop today EVGA

Jacob responded to this question with "that's the plan" but no idea if that means today, next week, or later in the month.

As for pricing, i'm guessing $799-829 range.

Gosh those prices are gross... Seriously hope they consider reasonable pricing. Asus have more Z790 to chose from with reasonable price points. I prefer to stick with EVGA.

Re: Introducing the EVGA Z790 Motherboards - The Pinnacle of High-Performance Computing 2022/11/11 13:14:30 (permalink)
I’m pretty sure they’re talking about the Dark, which competes with the Asus Apex, so the pricing seems competitive. There are very specific differences in the Asus lineup that are not power or VRM related that dive their wider offering and price range - most notably pcie lane handling and lack of 10gbit. EVGA is only offering the peak of capability and a step under it because they know we’re extremely picky nerds.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve only bought Asus boards up till now. I’m in the middle of switching my GPU preferred partner to Asus and my Motherboard to EVGA. It’s just a happy coincidence that it will all be EVGA for a while. These EVGA boards will be an extremely stable and capable platform, and we know it so we’re waiting - even though the 13900k on my desk is burning a hole in my patience.

If you have a cpu still in the box like me, just know you’re not alone and it will be worth the wait provided you are not looking for a deal/undercut in the z790 space. I will drop an evga reference in my thanksgiving speech at my family dinner should the board release before then.

May you all reach fantastic clock speeds and system stability.

I do prefer saving money, but in this case, given EVGA's situation (not selling GPUs), I am happy to meet a price (if it has the features of the even higher priced boards like we hope) to support EVGA.

Any updates on availability?  I've noticed that most etailors seem to be expecting a November 18th shipment date for their most popular motherboards and I'll probably be ready to commit to a new Intel build by next month.

Where can I submit my resume and essay? I was hoping for permission to purchase one of these boards, but I must admit, I’m nervous. It’s okay though shall I be deemed unworthy I promise to just go buy a 4 dimm board and some rgb mobo cables.

The z790 apex is $699 and scheduled for Nov 30. Has there been any news from evga on their z790 dark?

I really like the idea of the bottom pcie slot is capable of x16 as long as top slot is not populated. I had to trim the heatsink on my z390 dark for a waterblock backplate. Same thing needed for my z590 dark but don't want to lose warranty.

Why are there 2 waves of these z790 chipset boards? I just don't love having to wait to find out what actual features the EVGA boards have. Does it really need to be a surprise?
