The Classy is definitely calling my name..... Just need to see how the 13900k(s) looks in performance.

What I've been looking for is a board that will allow for 128GBs RAM running at 6000MT/s+
As it is, almost no one even tests 32GB sticks, let alone 4. This keeps me from jumping onto a DDR5 platform.

from what i've seen it sounds like 2DPC boards will clock mem significantly higher on z790. can't say you'll get that w 32GB dimms but there are 64GB (2x32) a die kits available if you know where to look. a die is what you want.

Do you mind sharing a bit more about higher memory clocks with 2DPC and z790? Do you have any links that elaborate a bit more on this as it's the first I've heard of it? Every article i've seen on z790 only references the slight upgrade in pci-e. I'm debating picking up the z690 kingpin while it is still available at a discount for a new 13th gen build and 64GB of ram is my minimum so this seems pretty important. Not that DDR5 64GB ram kits are clocked very high at the moment anyways so maybe it's a moot point?

DDR5 kits come with different ICs, the most common are from Samsung and SK Hynix. For the first year-ish of DDR5, the preferred ICs have been SK Hynix, specifically M Die as this tends to be the best for overclocking/performance. However, the z690 rollout for 2DPC (2 dimm per channel or 4 slot) motherboards was kind of a mess. BIOS can only go so far, and this is why you see pretty much all the world records for overclocking done on 2 dimm boards. While the memory matters, of course, the board topology / memory traces that are used to send and receive signals seems to have been limited in some way early on.

I don't have any links on z790, but I do know some folks who have ES (engineering samples) for z790 and 13th gen (raptor lake) and that is why I say i've heard they have made improvements on this front. Please do not take my word as gospel and go making memory purchases based on rumors and unreleased hardware. It looks promising, but until I have the hardware myself I won't make any promises.

On the I/O plate.  There is a Safe Boot button near the power/reset buttons, however.

Dear EVGA Tech
Will the Classified will work with 4 sticks of memory? Or will it have timing Portobello similar to the 690. And be better with 2 sticks?
Thanks

Dear EVGA Tech,

Question: Will the EVGA Z790 DARK K|NGP|N and the EVGA Z790 CLASSIFIED Motherboard's be available on the european market on launch date? specifically to The Netherlands?
i would really like to use an evga motherboard for my new up comming build becourse i'am really in love with the EVGA brand and would love to support it more, but the availability for evga motherboards to The Netherlands is not present at this time.
the strange thing is that other evga products are available trough retailers like megagekko, alternate, coolblue, amazon.nl in The Netherlands but almost no evga motherboards hit our market.

I think I'd contact evga directly...the few eVGA employees that visit here may miss this for a while.

Lol im in the same boat as you im also from The Netherlands back years ago you could order easily from EVGA.EU located in Germany. But for the last years their shop is rubbish its a ghost now. My first real gaming rig was with pretty much everything EVGA their MB their GPU and their PSU and since then i stick with EVGA.

I am also very interested in one of these new Z790 mb's and hopefully i can buy them in EU to... BUT i hope EVGA wont ask insane prices Kingpin looks premium so to expensive for me. But hopefully the dark version is less expensive. Any word on pricing yet?

TO EVGA:
Please make sure these Z790 motherboards can be bought in Europe and hopefully your new ATX 3.0 psu's will also be available in due time in EU.
Even tho you stopped making GPU's (i miss them already!!) i will still support your MB's and PSU's!

The Dark is the KingPin, it's the same board. Your options are: Z790 Dark KingPin, or Z790 Classified.

The Z690 Dark KingPin was around US$800 when it launched, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Z790 Dark KingPin launches around the same price. I think the Z690 Classified was around US$600 at launch.

I have noticed the EU store has been without stock for several years now. They list new products, but never seem to have any stock. I have to wonder if someone on the inside in the EU is buying them all as soon as they arrive and then scalping them - it seems strange they rarely have any stock of anything. :(

Maybe ~$800, same as Z690 Dark KP.

Any insight on if I plug in a PCI-e 4.0 x16 device into the first x16 slot, and a 5.0 x4 device into the second x16 slot, will that cause the first x16 device to go into x8 mode?

Yes, if you're asking about the X790 DARK K|NGP|N.  It would be better to look at it as whether you have a PCIe device in one or both slots.  If you have only one PCIe device across both slots, then the slot where the device is will run at x16 speed.  If you have a PCIe device in both x16 slots, then it will run x8/x8 as any other Z790 board will.

I know the feeling. I prefer EVGA but MSI and ASUS already have their mobos up for pre-order on Newegg with a ship date of 10/20. Meanwhile EVGA is just hyping with no date in sight...

If you have a PCIe device in both x16 slots, then it will run x8/x8 as any other Z790 board will.

wait a min. so on the z790 dark , the bottom slot can run x16?

If the top slot is empty, then yes.

So only works if we pull a vacuum on the slot?

The 13900 reviews are coming out - it's a bit of a beast! Damn thing runs hot as hell though, although that's hardly surprising with 300W boost (or maybe 350W?). That's not going to make the green agenda people very happy! AiO with a 360 radiator is possibly minimum cooling if you plan to regularly use the potential of this CPU (like with rendering). Probably will scream on LN2, going to be interesting for sure.

I may just stick with the 12900K for now though.
