I have been using a HannsG HG281DPB 28" monitor for a little over 2 years. This monitor has a native res of 1920x1200, and two inputs--HDMI, and VGA. After running it on HDMI for several months it suddenly went black. I was running it from HDMI on the display to DVI on the card--a 9800GTX at that time. I could only get a picture by switching to the VGA port on the monitor and using a VGA to DVI adapter for the card. About 1 1/2 months ago I finally sent it off for RMA. They told me that the main board was replaced. However, when I received it back it still did not work on HDMI. Before sending it in I had built a new comp and was now running the HannsG display on a GTX 580/e770/i7950. I am now waiting for it to get back to me on Thursday from a second RMA. The repair center said that the monitor is working for them on HDMI with no further repair being needed. They tested it on a lower end computer with a 'Via ALl-in-One' board and probably an integrated graphics chip. Apparently they had nothing higher end to test on. I am in Canada, and HannsG has Canadian customers send RMA items to a 3rd party repair center in Ontario, Canada.
Before sending it in for the second time I had done the following testing: tested on 3 graphics cards--9800GTX, GTX 480, and GTX 580--all EVGA. I did these tests using three different HDMI cables. It worked on VGA to DVI on all of these cards, but did not work on any of them on HDMI. Also, it was tested on an Xbox. A 24inch Dell LCD worked fine on the Xbox, but the HannsG did not work using the same cable for both. It flickered a picture once for a half second and that was it. I tested my comp on a freinds' 1080p t.v. this morning--HDMI to HDMI and it gave a proper display.
So, I am hoping it will work when I receive it back, but am not too optimistic. I saw some posts on the net re people with this same monitor having issues with it not being able to go into sleep mode. They were all using nVidia cards, and claimed it was a problem caused by the nVidia drivers 'seeing' the monitor as an HDTV. Some of them found a workaround involving registry changes, and entries into the driver code--IHannsG told me today that nVidia released a patch to fix that issue. Anyways, this started me wondering if my problem of no HDMI signal or display could be driver related as well. I am wondering if anyone in these forums is familiar with this problem, and has any ideas. I could try temporarily going back to my 9800GTX card with an older driver to test that idea, but cannot use the same driver I had when the HDMI was working because I don't think it is available on the nVidia site any longer, and at that time I was running Vista 32--I am now running W764. Below are my specs--thanks in advance for any replies. (Please no comments like..."dude, if you can afford a GTX 480 and a GTX 580 then buy a new monitor..." I am presently out of funds for any further expensive upgrades.)

Nvidia has an archive of old drivers so you can try an earlier rev with the older card. Just put in the card and the OS version They go back to 2009:

Frankly with all the testing you have done it sounds like a bad monitor.  And Dude....it's an expensive and sometimes frustrating hobby.

Thanks for the reply. It's just strange because the repair guys say the display is working for them. Anyways, if it doesn't work again. and I can't find a fix then I am going to expect HannsG  to issue a replacement sd it is still under warranty coverage.. I do not want to be stuck running my GTX 580 on an analog signal.

I have only tried it on 60 HZ which is the correct setting for the monitor. How would I change it to 59 HZ? Presently I am using a 17" Samsung Syncmaster loaned to me--in Windows display properties it only shows 60 HZ or 75 HZ. I am not sure what options there are when the HannsG is connected.
One forum post (not EVGA) a person with the same monitor was having some kind of HDMI related issue--said the nVidia driver was seeing his monitor as an HDTV. He went on to say that HDTV is 16:9 aspect ratio, and the HG display is 16:10. He said when he changed it to 1920x1080  the problem went away except that  things were out of proportion.  http://www.nvnews.net/vbu...p?t=139830   However, this post was never clear on what exactly the nature of his problem was. Also, if Windows does not offer me 1920x1080 (maybe it will) then how would I try that res.--Perhaps force it within the nVidia control panel? Anyways, if you could let me know more particularly how to select 59 HZ--I seem to remember seeing that oprion somewhere in the past but am not sure where. Kind of a big LOL--running my GTX 580 right now on a 17" monitor with a max res of 1280x1024. Hope to hell I can get the other one working properly as some point soon--thanks.

Thanks for this post.  I would never buy a HANN-G LCD after reading this.  BTW, I believe you have a defective LCD and they don't want to replace it.  It worked for months on the same GPU and went black.  GPU's run on other monitors but not this one.  This is not like the nVidia LG bug reported by many years ago.  This sounds very much like a defective HDMI port on the HANN-G 28" LCD

Thanks Logan. I saw that 'customize' option yesterday, but did not open it up when I saw the warning. At that point I didn't know what changes I might want to make if any. And also, I am still using a freinds' monitor. When I get the HG back I will have that as an option. However, if it is not working then my main approach is going to be to get a replacement from the manufacturer. The tech guy yesterday mentioned the 'possibility' of a refurb replacement--said they were short of new units on hand. I said I would wait until they had more. He said that he would have to get authorization for either option first--don't quite get that because it is still under warranty until November 2011. Other companies have stepped up to the plate when needed--EVGA with the 680i to 780i RMA program a couple of years ago (I replaced my 680i).  I had a HDD replaced by WD a year ago because of bad sectors detected--no questions asked. Logitech was great about replacing a bad laser mouse--didn't even require me to send back the defective one. Yet to be seen what HannsG will do about this if the problem persists. The next step is to test the monitor on Thursday when it is tracked to arrive--I am not too hopeful about the outcome. However, I will not judge HannsG until I see what they will do to fix things if it still does not work. If that is the case I will insist on a replacement unit.  It cost me $71. shipping to return it the first time--they paid the shipping on the second return. I will continue to follow this thread in hopes that something of further interest might be posted--out for now.
