I went on an old card binge last spring. Got a lot of gold cups at the time, nut haven't benched since July...tired of 580's....just waiting for something new. My plan is to continue to wait until Ivy and Kepler to show up. Not long now. I'll mod whatever I need to mod on Kepler and hopefully won't have to go through many samples. Just wish I had those old 295's :(

ty_ger07 Q56_Monster Can you turn off the 16 slot on that MSI board? dipswitch somewhere thrown by mistake?? I don't know MSI. Or somehow getting some condensation from the nearby SS? Dry it out real good and pack some PJ in the slot Well, I hadn't even phase change cooled a video card before the slot quit working. I just had the board sitting unused with a card in it. When I tried to boot it up months later, the slot wasn't working. Umm... I will have to look around the BIOS. I didn't mean from phase change a vid card. I meant maybe a wee bit of cold from the SS CPU migrated over to the pci-e slot, causing condensation. And if you left the card in the slot for a long time, the water might have had a hard time evaporating quickly, thereby causing some slight corrosion in the slot. Take a card and move it in and out of the slot 50-100 times. Try to wear off any corrosion that may be down in there.

Freaking 9400GT 3dmark06 slimeball is back on top. He included a random picture of a 9400GT and his result has been added back as a valid result. How does posting a picture of a 9400GT (not even installed in the damn computer) fix his credibility when the issue is the actual claimed result. Please consider this data thoroughly. A single picture does not fix his credibility. Please consider: 1) His benchmark was in Windows 7 while better performance exists in Windows XP. 2) He has not submitted a single other 9400GT sumission. Why would he not take my other 9400GT medals from me if he could? 3) His CPU overclock is not very good and neither is his video card overclock. 4) His score is not physically possible given his clocks and operating system. Please do some research on this and compare all other 9400GT 3dmark06 submissions. You can view my discussion with others about this issue here:http://forums.evga.com...amp;mpage=305 The discussion starts mid-way down on that page. Myself and others can only come to 3 conclusions for this obviously fake result 1) He has used much higher clocks and different cooling than he is claiming but lowered the clocks for the screenshot and is claiming worse cooling than what he actually used. 2) This 3dmark06 run was 'bugged'. 3) He has photoshopped the screenshot to show a higher score than he actually got. Please seriously consider this and look at the evidence. I think if you really dig into this, you will see that it is not possible that he received the score he is claiming. I would appreciate if you guys would support me by reporting his submission. http://hwbot.org/submission/2253702_xiaotonggua_3dmark06_geforce_9400_gt_ddr2_5861_marks/

So... A different question: I am still pretty new to HWbot, and I am really new to the 'new' site. Sure, the site is not new any more, but it is new to me. So, can you answer a scoring question for me? Here's my question: How does cooling used affect the scoring? For instance, I have 6.0 hardware points for my 9400GT Vantage submission using air cooling. Now, if I submitted a faster result using SS, would my score drop because there are no other 9400GT SS results, or would my score remain the same because I would still have the #1 spot?

I am pretty sure it would remain the same. The difference is "enthusiasts" and "Overclockers League". Enthusiasts only use water or air cooling. Overclockers League, water, air, dry-ice, phase change, liquid nitrogen, and whatever else there is.

Wow. I have forgotten most of what I knew about the GTX 285. I just remember that it had a very low resistance between the voltage output at the inductors and voltage feedback to the voltage controller chip which required a low resistance potentiometer to drop enough voltage to ground to get the desired effect.

Overcurrent protection shuts the card off in the manner you are noticing. Either that, or you wrecked your card. Try less voltage. If it starts working with less voltage, then you will need an overcurrent protection mod to get the card working at the high voltage setting you were trying to use.

Try removing the mod and see if it still works. EDIT: My 7600GT looks totally different though. on another note where did you get your singlestage cooler and how much? Ok Nateman, here is my 8800GT volt mod pic you wanted to see. I found out that hot glue is an amazingly useful tool for holding wires in place to prepare them for soldering and secure the volt mod against accidentally tugging the wire free from its solder joint. I could imagine that people could use hot glue to perform a reversible 'temporary solderless mod' which could be completely reversible without leaving any traces of the mod ever existing.

I looked at my volt mod guide to refresh my memory: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110950 Yes, I recommend using a 100 ohm potentiometer. I think what I was trying to say was that around 20ohms, the core voltage would be around 1.25v which is normally considered a safe long term limit for air cooling. The additional resistors you see soldered in series and parallel with the potentiometer are optional and help make the potentiometer less sensitive and prevent against accidentally dropping the resistance too low. If you don't use resistors, I would just use a 100 ohm potentiometer starting out at highest resistance setting and slowly drop the resistance while monitoring the GPU core voltage.

Hmm. Gigabyte P67-UD7 board incoming, should be BNIB, probably 2-3 weeks. IB is projected to work on it so I may well get a 3770K. Edit: Never mind, misread what board it was.
