clock for clock, 920 will drive the gpu's better, but 980 hopefully makes up for that in cpu test.  It may not at first....you may need to find ways to work the gpu score up again.

New nvidia 257.21 driver released. It's for geforce6 through the 400 series, rather than 400 exclusive. Supposed 5% increase in vantage.

Anyone try it out yet?

better to use the nvidia site for that...40 seconds is far better than 15 minutes downloads..

So i'm thinking of picking up some high speed/high cfm fans. I have a few questions.

Would it even be worth it to get 1 or 2 38mm thick fans for my Megahalems? AKA would i see a big improvement in temps over my 2 CM r4's, and would it give me any more oc headroom?

Are Delta's or Panaflo's worth it, or should i just get some Ultra Kazes and hope the sleeves don't wear out to fast?

I feel like a huge noob asking these questions, but i'm just thinking for benching air when i can't do sub zero.

Anddd... 930 + Micro + 5770 rig is here, building it on Thursday most likely, just need the monitor and speakers which get here tomorrow. Should be fun for benching. Also got a surprise on the way for later this week or early next week.

Gonna try to talk my parent's into letting me have the 930, and they can have the 920 C0. If they don't go for I'll just sell my 920 and get a W3520 or a 930. lol.

I did..only on vantage though.  Then I had to go back to work.  They work a little better than the beta 257.15's so far.

nice halo that would be an improvement, but I have seen alot of people who havent been getting as good of oc's with their 930 than with the 920's

rabid, it may be a good choice but I would stick to some ultra kaze's cheap and they would get the job done, the static pressure is what the the r4's and sythe slipstreams seem to lack.

Yeah but even so it's almost definitely better than a 920 C0.

I like them. Got them hooked up to my new Lamptron FC-2 fan controller and it's so nice to be able make them quiet. At 3k RPM they are loud, but they have a lot of pressure. Great for spot cooling, or for sucking air out of the side vent of a 295 if you have it positioned right.

For $10 they aren't bad. (4 total now) You can probably get better temps with a few of them.

Thanks for the input.

Ok, i have another question i have asked before (not in this thread), but am still wondering about. - It seems like whenever i have a failed OC attempt, my raid craps out, and i have to wait 3-4 hours for it to repair. Is there anyway around this?

Also, say i tried to OC while the raid was crapped out, and it failed again, would it f**k up my whole hdds?

I would say something could become seriously corrupted.  I was thinking of raid0 with two ssd's, but I think I'd be asking for trouble seeing that most of my OC attempts are failed

John might know...he bought 2 ssd's recently but don't know if he put them in a raid config.

on the ultra kazes...I have 8 of 'em.  And they are powerful, loud, and move a ton of air.  I just got my thumb caught in one of them....not good...almost ripped my fingernail off....blood everywhere.       Shortly after that I broke P33k on my 480....it was worth it

i did the same thing with one of my 5k fan mini me fans.

not running raid for that very reason there!
but what i do now, is load a complete os with drivers and benching software. then i make a complete back up of the drive. when it jacks up where i cant recover..i just restore.
i dont store any of my game saves or pictures of runs on that drive. it is stored on another drive all together

so, restores work the same way and just as fast..worse case...your back up and running 10 minutes later...all depends on where you back up is saved.

How long will 30lbs of dry-ice last with a 920?

Just an fyi, i am running raid 1, not raid 0. How do you restore the system? I backuped my system once to an external hdd when i was switching to i7, and when i tried copying everything back over, it worked, but i couldn't use any program because it wasn't installed. Is there a way to do that, or would i just have to reinstall every program and only be able to copy over my data files?

How would one go about setting up hdds so one is just the OS and maybe a few programs, and another is a data and program drive? I've always thought when you save stuff, it automatically saves it to the hdd the OS is on. Is there a setting for saving everything to a separate drive than an OS/boot drive? If there is a way to do this, i would love it, as i wouldn't probably be way less cautious about OC'ing my main rig, as i wouldn't fear screwing it up for the reasons you gave.

Probably a fairly long time. On my pentium D 915 (95w 2.8ghz dual core), i probably used between 5 and 10lbs for a 6 hour session, and that was at 5.2ghz. Ya i know there is a big difference in the procs, but i still think 30lbs would last a long time...even with an i7.

Thanks xxxrabid, hmmm 6hr session huh wow maybe I'll start with 10lbs. Don't want to sit around for 6hrs lawl. The dryice place is only 5 mins from my house so if more is needed it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd rather bench my i5 655k but the only P55 borad in the house is my GF's and she won't let me prep it

For multi OS on one drive you'll need to partition the HD with the windows disk. It's like doing a fresh install but you have to set the size you want for your bench OS. I have XP Pro with 10gbs on one partition and W7 with 25gbs. I use the left over 100gbs for W7 gaming drive.

You will most likey have to wipe the drive and reinstall all your programs. Some programs have data folders so if you went through and saved the data to a usb or another drive, then put the data in the program folder once you reinstall it "should be" safe. You may want to google that but that's worked for my games in the past. Also your partitioned drive will show up in windows as D or F depending on how many drives you have. Hope that gave you a few answers...
