What is the best 1156 CPU for over clocking?

i ran the 661 and it did pretty well...5.6 ghz bench able
reggiesanchez

Lol looking at that asus huh, not really sure what the best is but I got one of the dual cores up to 4.7 or so on air. There all pretty oc friendly, just start with one of the i3s that are like 100 bucks those things fly if you cool em right

@jon great scores bet your glad you decided not to wait for the 970s

you are right reggie, i am glad i went ahead and got it...these things are over clock friendly..:)

keep pushing xxrabid...go for it!

@john, I'm with awalleye on the vtt.  With my 920 I needed +250, with the 960 I needed +450, with the 980 +150.  I think it depends on the chip.  What are you vantage stable at? (that's all the matters)

right now, im around +250 on mine. but my cpu voltage is way far less than you guys voltage though.

Maybe because of your SS.  My chiller only gives me idle temps of -15C on the cpu (Around +5C when at full load).  What temp your SS give you on the cpu?

which bench?

under load of anything other than vantage and wprime.
it stays like below or around - 15 on all 6 cores.
vantage can get as high as 35 to 45 on the hottest core.

it's probably because his cpu needs to be reseated or the ram or both.

never tried but I would guess it would have a pretty big impact because you wouldnt be running dual channel just single.

I see many using single channel for max cpuz validation. How much of an improvement is it actually, over dual channel? Does it help b/c it puts less stress on the memory controller?

Wich socket are you talking about. They didnt start putting the memory controller on the chip untill 1366, im sure you knew that so I must have misunderstood. Max cpuiz dosent calculate anything either so single channel dosent matter but for a pi run your memory is very importand you dont want it to work at any thing lower than its max potential........ however Ive never tried or thought about it so there is plenty of room for someone to prove me wrong

Couple quick questions about chillers.

What is a good price for a used:
5k BTU?
12k BTU?

Also, what parts in it need to work, and what can be broken (obvioulsy for modding it to make a chiller loop)?

What kind of temps would the 5k hold and 12k hold for a s775 quad or dual, and maybe a midrange gpu or two?

I'm looking at Craigslist, and there are some insane deals...

I was looking on Craigslist today and saw some 5,000 BTU's for about $40 and 12,000 BTU's for $80 and up. I think 5,000 BTU would be good enough for a 775 socket.

What would i need to convert my house 115v to 230v? There is a 24k BTU for $75 but it runs off of 230v, not standard US 115v.

That's a really good point actually, that i forgot to ask. So, how much would running a 12k BTU chiller for, lets say a 6 hour bench session, 3 days a week, effect the e-bill? How about a 5k? a 24k?
