I wouldn't bank on those OS'es to provide any meaningful performance gains. You'd do just as well turning off your anti-virus before you bench, which I never do, lol...

I cant seem to figure out this 5870. Seems to be a crapshoot at what overclock it runs at, and my peformance doesnt seem up to par for the clocks im running. For those guys running ATI cards, what settings are you using in the CCC? This seems to effect performance rather 'significantly' as compared to Nvidia's settings.

i dont run an anti virus on my PC, i have a gentoo kasperskey live disk and a knoppix bit defender disk that i use to get rid of viruses. the windows live one care also works well. the thing that slows my system is the connection to the xbox for media streaming.... even when the xbox is not pluged in it still uses around 20%cpu just looking for the xbox. ****s me off because i cant seem to turn it off now :S

Ah, I have all my regular productivity (work stuff) apps loaded up on my Win 7 drive. It really gets a lot of work done....and moonlights as a bench box at night, lol! I do have 2 xp os'es that are bare bones though. Rudster, I don't think anyone uses CCC. Afterburner seems to be the oc tool of choice. My settings on the 5870 were 1034 core, 1300 mem, with a slight overvolt via asus smartdoctor of 1.163. Smart doc only works with an Asus vbios...it was the only way I could figure out how to over-volt the sucker.

Im referring to the 3D settings, it has a main slider that lets you do Performance vs Quality, I guess ill have to do some testing to figure out what works best. I think my problem is too much volts. These cards dont seem to scale past 1050mzh ish core no matter how high you go on the volts. I bought my card from Gunslinger, he already had the ASUS BIOS flashed on it (its an XFX), so I didnt have to do that part myself to get voltage tuning.

I like using a combo of smart doctor and ccc smart doctor lets you set higer voltage and ccc is easier to adjust the clocks after burners clocks stop at 1090/1300 at least for my 5850 they do, I was thinking of going to pax but its just out of reach Boston is about a 12 hour drive for me

They scale ok you just need to get it colder since the weather changed I have my card on regular water not chilled. Idle temps rose from 14 to 25 no biggier right, load temps rose from around 25 to 45 still seems like it should be ok. I can run the same clocks but my vantage score went down 2000 points and thats with a slightley better cpu score.

Probably was something else helping lower\higher that score, but STILL...... Soon as I can afford a block on this think ill be running "chilled water", it will have to be from a slush box though. I guess one of these days after I pickup a waterblock, ill have to run down to a grocery store, pickup a couple of bags of ICE and DICE and try to make a man out of this card Right now im trying to get a run off at 1050\1300 and 4.5ghz on the CPU.

Ugh.........I hate this. I can do 4.5ghz at the settings below all day, just so long as it doesnt precede the two GPU tests. Anytime I try to do all 4 in one run, I always freeze during the CPU tests http://i175.photobucket.c...rudster816/4500cpu.png Ill be doing my DICE benchmarks outside in the cold, that way my GPU will run quite a beet colder aswell, hopefully that will help too. My room is a damn inferno

Im really not sure what your confused about??? Sometimes there is more to it than finding the higest speeds you can bench at there are different performance gates for every gpu. For instance on my card I benched it at 1060\1300 and then kept pushing the core clock. My vantage scrore did not increase untill I hit 1170\1300, and I benched in incriments of ten. So what I am saying is your gpu might not like those settings. When your in gpuid check your temps and set it to max values and see where your at. If any of the numbers start to creep over 70 then theres your bottleneck espeacially your vddc phase temps. Not sure what the weather is like in washington but I doubt that your temps are lower at 1.446vcore than they are at 1.247 one of the pics you showed your max temps were above 80 on all cores

And I learned awhile back that higher clocks doenst necessarily mean higher scores. But here is where things get weird. After I ran that 4.4ghz test, I dropped my Bclk to 191 (4ghz) and kept all the CPU\Mobo voltages the same, exited out of all the same programs\etc, I didnt even restart my computer. My CPU score went down like it normally would, but my GPU score (same clocks\voltage) went up 1000 points to where it was in my orginal test Ive never seen the Bclk effect the GPU score so much. Im running Vantage at stock CPU speeds right now, ill see what kind of score I get with that. EDIT: My GPU score was 19651, which is ~100 points higher than the 4.4ghz test, but still well below what the 4.0ghz test is.

and buy your dropping the bclk, you took the voltage strain off of one of the other voltages which allowed the gpus to go back to their performance rating..... some thing has changed in your system...you just havent found what it is yet. could be something like superfetch running.

Well I ran the test with stock CPU clock and got the same "crappy" GPU score. I think im going to try a different PCIE slot.

Yea, probably an hour more...get to 95 and go straight up. Or 287 up into NY state, cross over the Tappen Zee, go up 684, then take 84 across. Looks like tix are sold out for Saturday...only Friday & Sunday. But, too short notice for me....I'd have to plan this type of event a few months in advance with my schedule.
