You'll find if you raise your qpi you can lower your L1,L2,and L3 Latencies by increasing your cpu speed. That will also pick up the bandwidth.

tis is true....but i have been having a go at keeping my cpu above 4.7 ghz..975 or 920.
and that's what i was testing for when i jumped in to test the ram....ill get back to that when i have some more time to really get into it. im just surprised that this ram is better than my 2k blade.

You and your sick Super Talent RAM...

SIC but you love it. You envy my mem. You lust for my mem.

I know. I'd love some of that. That stuff may even be worth picking up 3 of the Koolance RAM blocks for. Then It'd be a good excuse to have a dedicated loop for RAM and NB/SB/Vreg.

I got my Classy earlier today. I hope to get it set up tomorrow...or maybe even tonight. We'll see.

You know you can't wait till tomorrow!  I usually have it un-packaged before the UPS guy leaves the driveway!

Hahahaha. Pic monster wants more.

Don't worry guys. I had to go get my grandma's external hdd from her, b/c it has all my backup data on it. That's also why i didn't get to build it last night. I just got home from getting the hdd, and now the building (and taking tons of pics) will commence.

ok, i just ran into my first problem. The cpu hold down bracket is insanely loose. So much so that when i tried to clamp it down, it slipped, and the cpu bounced up and hit the socket. The socket looks fine, but i dont want that happening again.

So what do i do? Just tighten the 4 screw thing on the bracket?

You may try.. Mine was so hard to get down.. It was like a crunch. Took like a ton of pressure.

it is meant to be loose, but when you put the cpu in, the entire structure rises up and it is tight when you put the hasp in place

@ John: No pins look bent - thats the good news.

@Halo: It's not a pressure issue(though i was using a fair amount of pressure), it is that the clamp slipped, and the bracket popped up.

@Nate: Ok, so it is meant to be loose. But then why did the clamp down slip?

Ok, nvm. The clamp went down this time. I held the bracket that goes over the cpu in place, and clamped it down while doing that. Maybe that helped or the first time when it slipped was a fluke. idk, lets just hope it boots. *crossing fingers*

Woopty frickin doo, problem number 2. I am trying to mount my Megahalems, and the bracket seems to be messed up. Probably a manufacturing defect. The spring screws are too big for the cross mount plate holes...

Re:Get It Colder......2 2010/01/23 16:06:46 (permalink)
Well the cross mount has holes in it, unthreaded (like it should be, just fyi). The two beams mounted to the board have the threads. The screws are supposed to go through the holes in the cross mount, and then threaded into to beams on the mobo.

Here is a crappy diagram of what the spring screws look like:

[===] -> screw head
  > <
  > <   -> spring (it is around the screw)
  > <
   | |
   | |   -> part of screw unthreaded
    \
/    -> part of screw threaded
    \

The unthreaded part of the screw is too fat to fit through the holes in the cross mount. It should fit though. If it fits, the threaded part  protrudes out the bottom, and is able to screw into the 2 board mounted beams. In my case, the unthreaded part is too fat, so the screw is not even protruding out the bottom of the cross mount holes.

I hope this helps describe a bit better.

Maybe time to break out the dremel...

Yea, I'd drill it out a bit.  If you mess it up, it just puts you behind a couple days until they ship you a replacement mounting kit.

Yay! The dremeling worked really well. I probably took about 1/4 of a Milimeter off the inside, and now they fit perfectly. That was pretty dumb (as in how little i had to shave off), but now i can move foward with my build again.

Ya, the funniest thing is that it is such a small seemingly worthless piece that ends up holding you up. LOL

Ok, noob question incoming: Are you supposed to leave the foam stuff on the inside of the IO shieldplate on?

yea, it will seem that the board will not line up because the cushion on the io plate sticks out, but just use some force to compress the board up against it.

Slowing getting back to basics today...

I can now handle 220 bclk @ 1.44Vcore and temps peaked at 40°C with my chiller (Vantage CPU test 1).  So far the waterblock is a success in my book.

Dont worry guys. I'll get the pics up. I have to finish putting it all back together though. I tested it outside my case first. I basically just have cable management and installing W7, then i can upload pics. I will probably just make a Mods Rig thread and post the link here, because i took A TON of pictures.

And then...overclocking and benching it. Muhahaha...
