Hey, anyone recommend Thermal compound for an EK cpu block on a 920, and paste for koolance blocks for a 5970 and 5870 ?
i've got AS5, MX-2 and OCZ Freeze right now
I'd go for MX-2 or the OCZ Freeze. Either will serve you well!

thanks for your advice! will post pics of my build in a few days, its nothing fancy, as your systems but its a temp fix for my need for a less noisey room, 5970's are terribly loud, koolance exos 2.5 external system for my computer, we'll see how it works :P

well im throw a few more pennies at my PC soo im goin to watercool my 5870 and maybe CPU not sure yet, i might wait on the CPU untill my video score catches it here is what i mean  benching last night peived me off abit last night i had a score of 21980 on aire with those same clocks and less voltage >< once the card warmed up it wouldnt bench anymore /cry and i forgot to take a screenshot grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

hye guys how big of a radiator do i need for a 5870? possibley 2? can i get away with a 240? what would you guys recomend? and would a 360 be enough for my processor and single card?

Congrats John!
As for the slacking in benching, I almost threw in the towel after Q left us in the dust, but I still have a 50L trick up my sleeve that I am working on. Not like I am going to go much farther with the current equipment, but if I can break my 47K, that would still be a HUGE personal accomplishment for me.

Don't let me get you down, Nate. My time in the lime light is short lived at best. My sli score of 49k is already smashed by at least one guy (rwoodburn1 with 3 480's @ P50k+). He can post it, I don't care, but he doesn't participate in modsrigs rankings. It's only a matter of time before the single card score falls too.
I loved over the summer racing with John...I'd get #1, then I'd wake up in the morning, and he took it back. Then I'd get it back again, then he'd spank me and show me who was boss, LOL! It made me better.
Hey, lets face it...I'm only there because I did two major things...980x & the chiller. Andre Yang quoted a month or two ago in overclocker magazine, that "If you have the money, you can do the same thing as me". Ain't that the truth!! That's the dang problem with this hobby, nothing stands still, and it costs so much. We were pretty lucky with the 295's...they had a real long life in GPU terms. But it's over now. Time to regroup, save some cash, and come back strong.
Oh, and I'm just rambling...this isn't all meant for you Nate. Just the first paragraph. You are highly respected in my book, bro. I remember when you were messing around with your Q6600/chiller set-up...going back and forth with Hallowen on tips...then you announced you were getting some 295's. Right then and there I thought, welp, that's it, I'm done...this guys gonna kick by butt! And you did! But I hung in there, continually learning (from you I might add!).
That's enough from me....just remember that there's always someone faster coming up behind you....in everything in life!

I think I hosed my XP install. Was benching 3dm05 @ 5Ghz for a few runs, getting killer frames, but losing it on the last test. Then all I got was BSOD's right after I set the OC in eleet. I dropped down to an easy 4.8Ghz...same thing. 4.7 same. BSODs are all over the board 7E, 8 something, usb bug? I booted back into Win 7 and everything is fine. Hummm....I don't feel like reinstalling XP. Anyone have any thoughts?

i have had the 7E a few times and it have ALWAYS come down to videocard failure. if it was 8E then it would be video driver failure. if you were doin a single card run try it before you reinstall.
the 7E is basicly something to do with the memory allocation on the card itself. if you run OCCT on the card it shuld throw errors.

I know the vid card is good because I switched to WIN7 and did a few extreme vantage benches and came with in a few points of my best score. So it is probably something with the driver. like you said, or XP. Well, It'll only take an hour to reinstall everything. I have to clean up some boot sectors and old XP installs on the disk anyway, so I'll reinstall XP. Hummm..in the time it's taken me to write this, the install is already installing devices  Edit; That was pretty neat...took about 12 minutes to install XP pro with the 980x cpu installed.

hey im knew to this thread (but i read most of it it took 5 days!!!)
but i have an idea for a dice/ln2 pot
its alot like one of nates (the one that is stepped with the holes)
so just tap the holes and use threded coper rods when you are using ln2 and then unscrew them for dice
