GTX570, PCI-E stall at BIOS

Hey folks,

I have quite an issue here, bit of a long story too.

I have a dual socket, quad core AMD 2373EE, 16GB RAM and a x16 version 2.0 PCI-E slot, upon inserting the EVGA GTX570 card into the slot and supplying either external PSU power or using internal PSU supplied power the computer will halt/freeze at the BIOS.

I have tried an x1 > x16 USB3 extender, x16 > x16 extender and evening just alone on the motherboard, have also tried resetting the BIOS, removing the motherboard battery, ive the latest BIOS update..

My PCI-E bridge is running version 3, it appears my PCI-E x16 slot is running version 2.0 or higher as well..

I have even tried using both PSUs, one 6pin from the internal and the other 6pin from the external PSU, it will always maintain to freeze at boot, I can't even ping the machine although it does wait quite a while to return a "host not reached" message.

Could this be because im not supplying it enough power? Could this card be dead? Does my motherboard just hate using the PCI-E slot...

I have even gone to the degree, of turning off the internal GFX card, rebooting, trying the GTX570 card, after the freeze at BIOS, I then again remove the motherboard battery for a while and reset everything within the BIOS..

I'm really confused here because everything else, is somehow controlled by nVidia too, software RAID, NIC, bridges, the lot..

Any advice would be awesome, I'm going to grab a much higher amperage PSU tomorrow and give that a try, failing that I will assume the card is dead and will be returning it to the store I brought it from.

    Sounds like a motherboard bios compatibility issue.

    It does indeed mate, i'm going to go ahead and find a larger PSU first just to make sure, both these PSUs I have used are not fully powerful enough if the GFX card got really running an they can only output around 15amp each on a 12v rail..

    But I still would have thought that even just with that it still would have at least shown it's face to the board without halting at BIOS :)

    Just to add, if this does turn out to be the case in hand with regards to BIOS, what I shall do is purchase an ASrock H81 pro board which has 5 PCI-E slots, buy another four EVGA GTX570 cards and two fresh PSUs..

    I'm not looking to use this for mining, what I was after was the availability option of offloading some of my computational cluster work to these GPUs, but if that is not the case then I shall just build a single rig with these cards within and have it as a node within the Beowulf cluster for MPI based parallel processing :D

    Check to see if there is a new BIOS for your motherboard, if not you may need to find a different video card.
     
    Make sure for the box you are using there is at least 850W of power on the PSU
