Going back to an older driver may allow you to use the 1281mv vbios.

No dice on 353.  Now I can't even get it to recognize the 980Ti-SC-425 bios.  Code 43 on everything.

Sounds like it's time to flash the original.

Going back to original, then removing all drivers, then going back to the regular 980Ti-SC-425 at least got that back running.  Still no luck on the 1281mv bios though :(  I guess I'll have to settle for what I have.

Actually, since I can't leave well enough alone, I was looking at the old driver notes.  The one you linked, 353.06, was a W7 update.  353.30 was the W10 update (at least from what I can tell).  I tried it, and it seems to be working on the 1281mv bios.  XOC opened up at a solid 1.274.  Not sure why it was 1.274 instead of 1.281, but this will give me some room to push past 1600mhz now.

*Update*  Out of the blue, I got Code 43 while just reading something in Chrome.  Closer I guess.
*Update 2* I checked my driver, and I was back at 388.  I went back to 353.30 again and all is good.  Not sure what forced me back to 388 though.

If you keep having driver issues I would suggest ddu'ing your drivers.

That's what I've been using in between each install, just to make sure.  XOC is showing a strong 1.274mv with GPU core at 1641mhz right now, but it drops down to 1000mhz during benching.  Not sure why, but I think I'm calling it for today.  Tomorrow is another day, I will get this figured out!

I take it back, I'm throttling due to power.  Once it hits 300w, it downclocks fast.  XOC is set to 121% power target, but it still throttles the instant it hits 300W.  Should be an easy fix, just gotta figure out why the 980Ti-SC-425-1281mv isn't actually letting me get to 425w.

It's a Gigabyte 980 Ti G1 Gaming. Dual 8 pin power connectors. Running a full ekwb water block.

I'm guessing you're using separate 8-pin power cables instead of a single cable that splits off into dual 6+2's?

Correct. My psu (corsair 750w) has 4 individual 8pin cables.

Set precision to 121% power then make a .bat file with the following command inside of it..

@ECHO
start cmd.exe /k "C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVSMI\nvidia-smi.exe" -q -d power

Run the .bat file, and see if the enforced power limit is set to 425w.

If the enforced power limit isn't set to 425w when precision is set to 121% you can simply set it to 425w with the following command...

@ECHO
start cmd.exe /k "C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVSMI\nvidia-smi.exe" -pl 425

Still no luck going over 300w.  I tried both of those commands, both state they changed power (first one to 423.5w, second one to 425w) but I still hit a limit at 300w.

If it helps, I took a screen shot of what everything looks like during the process:

It appears my photo did not work.

Okay, good. It showed up as an X on my end.
I'm gonna try a few more things yet tonight, but after a long day I may give up until tomorrow. I'm determined to figure this out now.

1420x is still up. You'll need to use older drivers for the vbios to work. Try 353.30.

Re: GTX 980 TI BIOS/VOLTAGE HACK 2020/05/19 10:35:34 (permalink)
I have evga 980 ti ACX 2.0 - simple, not sc, no backplate.
I installed 1.281 modded bios, tested it and played The Witcher 3 at 1.460-1.470mhz 2050 memory. It's pretty hot 80C 1.29% W. Still, when I played metro exodus it crashed and had to lower it down a bit. Thanks for this opportunity anyways.
It works only with old driver 353 and it seems like the newer drivers have better fps. Is there a way to use newer drivers as I also need g-sync. Newer drivers give me 43 error. I think 364.96 was also working. Thank you

Nope. If you want 1.281mv you'll need to use older drivers.

I've noticed that I can OC it to 1.243 without bios mod and it can make it past 1400mhz, probably ~1420-1440. Though it requires some tests as I can add only 110%W. The only problem with that is vdroop I guess as the voltage goes quickly down when the card is above 70C and it crashes, though it maybe the lack of power. Well, I think the most perfect solution would be to keep it as is at 1.224-1.243mv but to remove all these problems somehow by vbios alteration. Because with latest driver fps seems to be higher or the same with less clock boost. And the GPU would be less hot and G-Sync would be supported with latest driver. I'm totally new to this but please let me know if it's possible

I could modify the version 1 vbios listed at the beginning of this thread down to 1.243mv, but I don't know if it will work with newer drivers or not.
