Lulz @ 685s Anyone really think nv isn't going to roll out the full 600 series of cards before focusing on boutique cards like a 685? So that's a little better? 5 more? My guess is that it's the 670, and maybe nv has a shark load of them /dreams And Kepler series Gpus only support 4 displays, even if u have quad sli. 3 in surround and one aux display (pron obv). Not sure if is a hardware or software limitation, or both. *if it is a 690 when nobody can even get a 680, I say it's the dumbest move ever. 104s are 500 bucks, so selling two of them for less than 1k is just bad business if not downright stupid.

680's are essentially non-existant now. You can't buy one unless you're willing to get taken for a fortune on Ebay. Even if it is a dual-GPU card, two times zero is still zero! Bring on the GK-110. Until then, I'll live with my EVGA GTX-580SC's.

You just have to be a little vigilant. But hey, if I had your setup I wouldn't bother with upgrading yet either. I'm coming from a single 6950 so I'm doubling my performance with a single 680.

UPDATE 3: According to this website, this is what the GTX 690 will look like. Judging from this picture, it looks like its going to be longer than the GTX 590, putting it somewhere closer to the 6990. Its interesting they went with a blower like the 6990 rather than the fan as in the 590. http://wccftech.com/nvidi...0-dual-gk104-pictured/ The first picture of NVIDIA’s Upcoming flagship GeForce GTX 690 has been unveiled. A day earlier, NVIDIA showed a teaser for an upcoming announcement, Sweclockers later confirmed that it was the GeForce GTX 690which would be the Dual chip flagship GPU which launches in early May. The picture shows the card from its rear, Its quite long and has a cooler shroud similar to the one we saw on GeForce GTX 680. A single blower fan provides air to the interior components. Its unknown whether NVIDIA would equip each core with its own vapor chamber like the GTX 590 cooling design. Power would be supplied through dual 8 pin connectors. Specifications include two GK104 chips equaling 3072 Cuda core and a 4GB GDDR5 256-bit memory. TDP is said to be around 300W. More details are expected to arrive by the end of this month.

Exhaust blowers are so overrated. If you have half decent system fans, your video card would perform better with focusing on getting heat away rather than out. Just look at the 580/6970 Lightnings. They run a crap ton cooler and quieter. Sure your case is a few degrees warmer but the card is like 20 degrees cooler. Hell look at the Gigabyte GTX 680 Windforce 5X. That thing will probably be the exact same temperature as your case undre load, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. http://videocardz.com/321...-windforce-5x-pictured

True. If you just blow heat away and all around inside your PC, then eventually exhaust it, that's fine. However my PCs are always designed with very straightforward airflows, from front to back. When I had my 295, I made a little metal flap/housing that directed exhaust down (flipped ATX style, so down is really up, away from the intake fan). Then my two 120 mm fans around my CPU cooler got rid of it out of the back of the case. Without this my temps were a lot worse. KemTech What in the hell is that! Apparently lots of tiny fans that are loud (high-pitched) and a stock CPU cooler, LOL!

You know, combing through all of the rumors over the last month, there has been very little hard evidence that the GTX 690 is actually a dual gpu chip aside from the photoshopped card without the shroud, today's photoshopped image, and people's expetation of it being two 680's. Considering the GK110 chip is almost exactly double the size of a GK104, couldn't it be possible that they could just slap a GK110 into the GTX 690, give it 4GB of of ram, 512 bit bus and call it essentially a double of a GTX 680? I really don't see the point of releasing a GK104x2 and then a GK110 which is basically a GK104x2 in the same generation. Unless the GK110 is a 700 series card, which would put the 600 series at a very short 6-7 months just like the 400 :/

Just what exactly is Nvidia trying to pull here. Check this out. http://videocardz.com/322...alypse-gtx-690-release " So this is what HardwareHeaven recieved straight from NVIDIA. You may find this as a quite confusing gift. I hope they sent few to AMD too. So I asked around and all I could get was the information that it was sent by NVIDIA. That’s it. They are not allowed to reveal any more information, so yes — something is coming!. It may be indicating upcoming GTX 690 release or other unspecified product. I think that crowbar will be helpful in unboxing ‘the most powerful graphics card in the universe’."

I hear ya. I can only imagine those who want to game on 3 Monitors in 3D. Ouch.
I use my 680s to play at 5760x1080 maxed out in 3D without issues, haven't run into any VRAM bottlenecks... yet :p I was hoping there would be a step up to the 690, and almost bought the extended warranty for my 680s to apply for it, but after reading about all the people who wanted to step up to the 590, and the lack of availabilty for those cards, I decided not to waste $50 just for the "privilege" of being able to step up... chances are history will repeat itself. I might be better off selling my 680s in the near future and purchasing a couple 690s for quad SLI, or better yet, wait for GK110, it's not as if the 680s are any slow anyways.

Lol, I love the misconceptions people have about 3d. It is actually better on your eyes because you are focusing at different depths while gaming, like in the real word, vs. staring at a static screen right in front of you. If this is a dual GPU card you'll see my 680 SC+ with high-flow bracket in the market place real quick! And at a reasonable price! Unfortunately the 680 lacks the horsepower to play games like BF3 on ultra, in 3d, without the fps dipping into the 20s per eye when the action gets going ![](https://forums.evga.com/upfiles/smiley/s7.gif) And I have a micro-ATX so sli is out of the question as well without having to extensively modifying my case for water.

I'll stay with 2D for now, not a fan of the 3D experience. Also, I would like to see proof that "it's better for your eyes" LOL. Sorry I cannot imagine that being right. It is NOT like real world at all. Back on topic: I'm with BHK1004, after the mess that the 590's were, there are a lot of people that will steer clear of another dual chip card, including me. For folding/crunching it may make more sense.

another thing... if people consider the 680 really a 560 replacement, then if the 690 turns out to be a dual GPU card... does that mean this is really a 560 2win replacement?

You can bet it's gonna be loud!
I wonder how the 690 will compare to GK110 once it's released.

Except for those of you who still owned previous nVidia dual-GPU cards or always wanted a dual-GPU card, I don't get the noise made over a dual-GK104 whenever it should appear. It will be made of two slightly dowclocked GTX680's shareing enough power circuitry to lower the wattage and still using 2GB buffer per GPU because it won't add to 4GB in SLI. Of course it fits in the space of one dual-slot, probably the only appeal for someone like me. bhk1004 another thing... if people consider the 680 really a 560 replacement, then if the 690 turns out to be a dual GPU card... does that mean this is really a 560 2win replacement? Anyone can think whatever they like, but ultimately nVidia made GK104 into a GTX580 replacement whether we like it or not, therefore a dual-GK104 replaces the previous reference dual-GF110: GTX590 and nothing else. FWIW, G92 was also a midrange GPU that should have been a 9600GT, but it was applied to 9800GT/9800GTX and dual-G92 in 9800GX2 because AMD didn't have anything better at the time. We never saw a G90; what nVidia is doing now isn't new. JK_DC That little fan for 300 watts? It's already been shown the picture is a fake, just a stretched reference GTX680 without a sticker which doesn't have the casing design or the nVidia engraving seen in the hinted picture from nVidia. That said, GTX590 had a maximum graphics card power of 365W, so nVidia may use the same fan such that temperatures and fan noise will be within nVidia's limits -- but that doesn't mean we won't be picky since many of us don't tolerate what nVidia's engineers think are valid... ![](https://forums.evga.com/upfiles/smiley/001_rolleyes.gif) )
