I've always heard that dual gpu cards are a load of trouble and to stay clear of them. Any truth to that? I was planning on 2 x 680's in Sli(hydro copper or classified hydro copper, haven't decided yet??) Are 2 cards in Sli better than a dual card? Regarding that, how is the micro-stutter with the 680's in Sli? Heard reports that it has been eliminated?

skyrim can use a lot of ram but final fantasy xiv is such a terrible game and is coded so poorly that using it as a bench mark makes no sense to me and I really dont understand how anyone can find it fun I mean it makes Skyrim look bug free. I just dont enjoy it at all.

2 cards in sli are better for sure unless you want to do quad sli on a mother board that doesn't support quad sli or if you only have 1 pci-e slot. dual gpu cards don't make much sense otherwise in my opinion

Cool. Regarding the micro-stuttering I asked about. Is it present with the 680's or has it been eliminated? I have never gone Sli before, this will be my first time so have no experience with it.

I highly doubt the 690, or 695 is being released. The 690 will probably be down-clocked on the memory and gpu frequency just to make it more stable. It will probably be a little on the unstable side dealing with 2xGK110 that utilize 4GBs per card, on small memory bus widths. Worst if it's a 8GB per card deal. Look at it from another point of view. 680s are basically an overclocked card at factory spec. It can't be overclocked much further from what I have been reading from other sites. 2way SLI 680s, 2GBs per card, will probably be about the same, or a tad-bit better than a single 690. 2way SLI 690s will probably have scaling issues to the point where you will probably utilize only one of two 690s. There's also the possiblity of having driver issues. That's my prediction for the 690s. More than likely, it will follow the same trend as the 580 3GB vs 2 way SLI 590 situation. Players could gain more, better performance per buck with 3-way SLI 580 3GBs, and have less herp-derps.

I just dont enjoy it at all. I don't really play it, just dabbling in it to hold me over till D3. I had a 7970 Lightning for about 3 weeks before I returned it for for the SC Signature. I just noticed about 2GB being used up by the game. I've got a Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5 which only supports 3 way crossfire. My only hope to run Sli is to get a 690. Otherwise I'd have to swap out both the cpu and motherboard. As the cards are voltage capped at 1.175v, for now anyway, under water cooling, I don't see a GTX 690 performing too far behind 2 GTX 680 2GB cards as voltage rather than heat is the limiting factor for cards right now ie. Hydrocopper 680. The downsides to a dual gpu single pcb card is mainly the heat and noise, which are both nullified by water cooling.

I don't think 680 owners will be able to step up to these. A step up has to be bewteen series correct? For example 500-600 600-700 correct?

The way I understood it is that you could step up from a GTX 680 to a GTX 685 or a GTX 695 GIVEN it is a reference model. There weren't any GTX 590 step ups because EVGA only had the 590 classified cards. There were step ups for the older 9800GX2 and the GTX 295's because they were reference cards. Lets just hope EVGA puts out GTX 690 reference cards in addition to classified ones.

It would have to be from one generation to the next. So a step up from a recently purchased 500-series would be valid to a 600-series. But not a GTX 680 to a GTX 680 FTW. This is one reason I don't like the Step-Up program 90% of the time. However I was able to step-up from a 285 to a 295 in the past. So number changes might still work?

NVIDIA took the single GPU performace crown back (even more so if you compare GK104 to "GK110") and now they are gunning for the dual GPU performance crown!

GK110 is going to be priced unrealistic. My guess $800 or be delayed until early next year. If 680 sales continue to be strong. It would make no sense releasing it. Just keep banking on the 680 and now a dual solution is coming.

Too many hassles when dealing with Surround. I sold my setup last year. Awesome when it works but I find a 27 inch 3d monitor to be a much better solution.

Very few people seem to want the 2 core cards, I don't, and I am in the market for 680/s. What people DO want right now, but can't get, is lower 6xx series cards. It is a known fact that most people don't buy the $500+ cards. The lower series sell better, the 670s, 660, and etc. It only makes sense for them to release one of those asap. There should also be flawed cards that couldn't make it as 680s, that end up as lower cards. This is what (some) 570s, 560TIs and 6950s were. (some 6950s were flawed 6970s that could be flashed back into them) Something like that anyway. I don't understand all of it. Point is, it only makes sense for them to be releasing a card lower than the 680.

Johnny_Utah khatru311 I'd probably be better off adding a 3rd 680 instead of 2 690s even if step up works. Either way it is still overkill. This all depends on if you are running one screen, or 3, 4 or 6;) Does Nvidia surround support 6? I thought the max was 3
