If you guys had to choose between a 1080 Ti FTW3 or a 1080 Ti SC2 for video editing, 3D and quiet operation in a recording studio... which would you prefer? Or rather, which should I prefer?

SC2, keeps most air turbulence inside case. Hybrid blows air out radiator out into open air

It's all coming out anyway, does that really matter? I'm more concerned about fan noise.

Keep in mind that EVGA has recognized that a lot of use are new here to the forums and have provided some "guides" to help you get elite status via posting here.

Do the 3 smaller fans on the FTW3 make more noise than the 2 larger fans on the SC2? Does one turn slower and create less noise?

I'm not interested in buy off ebay anyway, feels like there would be too high of a chance that the card has been running non-stop for a year.

The card he posted was from EVGA's Ebay store page.

That’s awesome. Definitely getting the sc2 or the few 3 when is available. I have the case fans setup to blow out. Thanks for the info.

Precisely. Air comes out your own vents with vent fans at controlled levels. Case absorbs some noise.
With hybrid, Air is forced out of radiator into open air and from blower. More turbulence = more noise. This is why AIO's can be noisier than air coolers

I would think three fans make more noise. But than again if they are ball bearings then they could be silent.

I have had aio before and they have been silent. Just run the pump at low speeds.

That's all we have for today for stand alone cards. There is still some availability here. Should have some more stock tomorrow but not 100% certain yet.

Isn’t a 1070ti a no good 1080? So they just made a ti version of it?

Re: GTX 1080/TI stock ETA? 2018/02/01 14:27:51 (permalink)
Fan Noise, caused by the blades moving through the air is really mostly all about turbulence. A faster blade tip speed will create more high frequency noise that gets worse the faster the blades go (yes and some more motor noise depending on the motor). Just like a house fan, as you turn it up... you start to hear "air" noise and motor noise. I've heard that they SC2 has two larger fans that spill slower so it is slightly quieter. Plus it runs slightly slower to it probably generates less heat in the first place and thus needs less aggressive cooling. If the performance dif is only about 1-3% then I would not even notice that so quite is better form my use.
