I'm curious to see if the substantial gains in the last 24-48hrs will influence stock

I think those gains are the result of the dumping of the old Mt. Gox coins back into the market and won't likely sustain themselves for too long. They've been breaking up all the BTC into smaller sales following the Mt. Gox collapse to liquidate the assets and those overnight $1000 increases are a result IMO

Good to know and thx for the info. Do you have any reference to show they’re linked?

There are several articles out there on it, but found one which goes into it a bit in detail talking about how there's speculation that it's deflating the value of BTC in general, but also highlighting where some of the recent sales have actually jumped the price up sharply in very short term instances (ie "Another 10,000 BTC were sold on Feb. 9. Bitcoin was priced at $8,086.21 in the morning and Kobayashi sold it at 14:09 for $8,666.69 – around $86.6 mln in total. A few hours before the end of the day Bitcoin was priced $8,907.39 – a 2.7 percent increase from the time of sale and a 10.1 percent increase in the value of Bitcoin for the day.")

https://cointelegraph.com/news/effects-of-mt-gox-trustees-400-mln-sale-on-bitcoin-market

Ultimately I'm just highly mistrustful of those overnight $500-$1000 gains BTC mysteriously has as they indicate short-term market manipulation to me (intentional or not) and shouldn't be relied on as a predictor of long-term growth in the medium.

I think Market manipulation is pretty much obvious it's not even a conspiracy theory. Bitmain is one of the main suspects. They have so much bloody money and already own so much crypto. When they get a whole new generation of miners ready and have a lot of inventory they can buy up existing coins Drive the price to the Moon and get everyone all excited. Back in December their miners were selling for just a fortune. This of course draws in more people to buy the products and get into mining. Bitmain gets a double benefit by doing this. Number one they can sell their miners at very high prices. Number 2 they start controlling even more of the crypto Market because they own even more coins. This cycle can be continued in the near-mid term without any trouble. Can you even imagine what the ferocity would be like if Bitcoin went to 50,000? It would be on every news station. People would be buying the miners like crazy. I mean this is exactly what you do before you release the next generation of miners whenever they have all those ready . you don't even really need to go to 50,000 even 30000 would get everyone just crazy excited. The entire inventory of graphics cards would disappear and all the Asic miners would sell for 5 to 10 times what they are now. Unlike the stock market where syndicates are regulated against you can have a Coalition of Partners in agreement about where to put the price on crypto. I'm not a hundred percent sure if one exists but I suspect it does

Pretty good deal on an ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070Ti Graphics Card. Just $529.89 after MIR.

Newegg currently has the GTX 1070 Ti FTW ULTRA SILENT GAMING, 08G-P4-6678-KR at $549.00

I like that EVGA used a thicker cooler much like ASUS did with the Strix 1070Ti and have been tempted to grab one of these so at $549 I figured what the hell ;-)

Good deal.:) I don't know, I'm kind of liking the Asus Strix. It has such a huge cooler. It runs super quiet and cool. I'm hearing 60° C under load.

Meh... I did the Stepup program for the first time. I paid like 540 which also includes what I paid to have them ship the new card back to me, giving them my 1060 for the 1080 ti black edition, so I am happy!

Frankly, the prices still seem to be on the high side - which I was hoping would normalize after the crypto crash. I managed to snag a 1080 Ti from Amazon Warehouse the other day for $600 but that was a lucky break I guess.

If you wanted prices to normalize, you would need to wait until the DRAM market stabilizes. Unfortunately, we may be on to the next video card generation before that happens.

Yeah, unfortunately there is also very little competition in the memory market so there's no need to reduce prices even when they increase the capacity now that they know what the market will bear.

i've had the same thoughts on dram prices. gddr5 is being wound down. gddr6 is increasing in production. we may be stuck with spotty inventory until the 11 series launch. i just don't understand why nvidia is short changing their earnings with low supply. i suppose now pricing may be a BIG factor. people aren't overpaying by much. a 1070 sells at 400 all day, 430 fairly easy. by 500 it sits. 1080ti's are still really overpriced. they seem to be in the shortest supply as well.

FYI best buy has a stock of 1080s for $549, just nvidia blower cards but the price is fair

Good catch. In this market I think that's a pretty good price!

Hate to burst your bubble fellas, but, at the risk of sounding cynical, I think the inflated GPU prices are here for good. I do not think there is some sort of "temporary craze" to be over where the prices will go back down. Back then, it was not that bad or even cheaper, to custom build a complete PC with separate parts from different retailers, etc. Now, we have entered the new era of inflated GPU prices being the "new norm", I really believe it is better and cheaper to buy pre-built computers from now on unto the forseeable future. hashtaggamerlife

you're just falling victim to normalization. it's a behavior that has people expecting things to continue as they always have. first week of jan you likely would have never said this. 3 months later and you're singing the song. i have seen this multiple times over the years. i've seen it in hard drives and in ram more times than i can count.

no one realized the crypto craze in nov/dec 17 would deplete supply so quickly. a few really bright people made videos back in December outlaying this very thing with the prediction of a dry market until next gen. the only caveat is if nvidia has a metric ton of cards without ram as some suspect they may delay next gen to unload all the pascal cards once they are built up. either one of these situations leads to better pricing than we have now. retailers are price gouging currently because there is so little supply.

you may notice nvidia has never raised the msrp of cards on their site

No one buys from Nvidia's site, except for those who garble up its supply.

Have you seen the crypto charts in the past 10 years or so? It is steadily climbing with no valley in sight. We have hit a milestone where we have ushered in a new era and have yet to reach the "normalization peak." PC gaming will never be the same.

Regarding "supply/demand" companies are too scared to produce more than is needed. So they mostly likely are not going to adjust their supply line to the current demand. At best, there would be a few weeks of normal supply/pricing but after supply runs out again, and I pretty much gaurantee it will, it is just a matter time for this cycle to repeat until the next line of cards are released. Rinse and repeat. Might as well jump onto the console bandwagon and say bye bye to PC gaming.

Wow, such doom and gloom.lol I don't think any of this will ever kill the gaming community. There will always be cards to buy to game at a reasonable price even if it means getting a last gen or earlier card. I picked up an EVGA GTX 980ti for $385 delivered and it more than affordable and capable.

Granted, I gone a bit overboard on the doom&gloom scenario there lol. But make no mistake the landscape has changed for good. It has caused most of us to settle for second hand heavily soiled cards when before the average joe can get the latest card at an affordable price. Nowadays if one is looking to build a brand new custom pc, one can forget about a new card or ram. Used it must be. Not that there is any thing wrong with a used card. But we gamers would be like second-class consumers now. It has been a month since and prices are still high. Still no Volta.

Hey guys, did you notice that EVGA is no longer limiting it to 1 card per person. They have changed it to 2 per person. Some cards they even have 4 per person.lol

The 1180 Ti won't be out for awhile, but the 1180/1170 should launch in July from nVidia, expect EVGA to have the 1180/1170 for sale in August.

You can still buy a GTX1080 in most electronics stores. Microcenter and BestBuy both have them. There's always stock.

Not the case for the 1080s.

If I have a GTX1080, does it make sense to upgrade to the GTX1080TI or just wait for the 1180?

Will the 1180 perform better than the 1080TI?

Intel i7 11700k l ASUS PRIME Z590-A l ASUS TUF RTX3080Ti l 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro l Evga 1000w Gold l 512GB Samsung EVO l 2x5 TB Storage Drives l  Corsair Crystal 570X White l Audio Engine A5+
