Finally!  Received my new GTX 1080. NON EVGA!  And finally I was able to complete a complete level of Doom with 0 errors!!

Congrats on getting a proper example of a 1080.  I went the same route as you and have not had a single issue.

Did ya'll pay the 15% "restocking" fee and all that to return your EVGA one?

It has not exceeded 1860mhz? That is really odd, a boost of 2025mhz like your old card had is totally normal, not exceeding 1860 would be considered weird if anything.

Also, I forgot to mention to the othet guy who asked, when I play I always have Vsync on so framerate doesnt go above 60 meaning it's not caused by high fps.

No way. Card was defective..Newegg gave me store credit. No problem.  This new card is from MSI and runs super fast and super cool, I couldn't be happier! It was fun with EVGA but now I am in the MSI camp. Good luck everyone.

Gotcha. I bought mine directly from EVGA, so I might be SOL. :\

I ordered through Newegg as well.....they refunded the full purchase price rather than replace.  interestingly I tried twice to review the card and neither time did my review post.  I was actually quite complimentary of the cards build quality and EVGA giving it three stars even with all the issues I encountered though apparently wasn't good enough for manufacturers/EVGA tech support.

Sucks because it's my first EVGA card, and because no one has even commented on the issue, I'm definitely going to think twice before coming back.

I've owned 4 others in the last 10 years or so......of the 5 including the 1080 FTW I've had two fail.  When my 260 failed EVGA replaced it no problem.  I really liked my 980FTW.....great card for my purposes.

If it's a defective card which it obviously is they shouldn't charge any restocking fee to give you your money back. If they do I would fight them for it.

Received my RMA today and am actively testing it as I write this. I set my fan curve to start at 60% at 35C and stepping up from there. The fan curve is the only thing I changed in Precision Xoc.

Thus far card temps have not gone over 48C, which is 12C cooler than the previous card with the exact same fan curve. I have also noticed that the gpu clock has not exceeded the factory OC as my previous card did jumping to 2025mhz.

Will continue to run benchmarks and update as I get any more info. Thus far it has lasted longer than the other card ever did outside of debug mode.

Interesting about the clock change. So what clock do you get when playing games at stock? Mine goes to 2000 which is not 1860 like it should be.

Also a general question about RMA you received. Did they ship you a new unit in the same retail box with the cables etc? If so, do you return it in the box or do you just return the card itself?

I have the same problem but I got the FTW hybrid card. Even though it's hybrid but the pcb is same and also acting the same way. Games crash right away if I overclock, if I don't than crush after 5 to 15 minutes of gameplay. I did RMA and fight for the shipping cost. So they sent me a ups return label and also gonna sent me a replacement card in 3 days. I just hope it's not same. I always used EVGA cards and would be disappointed if I have to leave them and buy some other brand card. If this time I get the same problem I will ask for refund. I just hope they don't charge me 15% restocking fee for their defective card. If they do I am gone forever.

Looking forward to see if you have the same problem.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Be sure to test the card with various resolutions like 1920 x 1080 or 2560 X 1440. I decided on another brand and I've been testing it all evening and I have 0 problems. So now I know that it isn't my power supply that was the issue but rather a manufacturing defect on EVGA side.

We have identified this and can confirm that this occurs on a small number of 1080 FTW cards. We have found the root cause and have corrected it. If you are experiencing this problem please contact us directly.

Re: GTX 1080 FTW - Black screen & fans spin up to 100% 2016/08/30 22:16:25 (permalink)
Hey all, I've been battling this same issue for the last few days, and have to chime in with a potential solution I've finally stumbled across:

Uninstall the PhysX component of your Nvidia driver through "Add/remove programs" in windows (or your equivalent.)

At the very least, uninstalling PhysX is what stopped this issue from occurring while running Skyrim with Enbseries installed. Of course, running Skyrim with Enbseries was my sure-shot way to reproduce this problem within the first 5 minutes, though it would occassionally happen in other programs.

I've not had a crash since uninstalling the PhysX driver, though I haven't done hours upon hours of testing. This also backs up something I read yesterday (Was it earlier in this same thread?) that someone didn't experience crashing when they only used the drivers that windows downloaded automatically.

Now, why the physx component would be the (potential) culprit is beyond me, especially since Skyrim has nothing to do with PhysX, but it worked for me. Finally, nothing else has been crashing since so that's a big yay.

Bottom Line: Can some more people test this by uninstalling physx (yes, uninstalling) and see if the problem persists? If we can diagnose that as a culprit, it can only help EVGA or Nvidia fix this issue.

Thank you,

-TheMagicHobo76

P.S. I could be wrong, but let's not rule this out!

EDIT- Oh, they found the prob and posted as I was typing this, yay!

-EDIT 2- I'll contact EVGA in the morning, it's getting late, but thank you to everyone (people at EVGA included)!

I'm a bit new to evga support and these forums. When you say contact you directly do you mean call the evga support number, a specific e-mail or PM you on here? Just wanna make sure I can get this resolved after having gotten 2 cards in a row with the issue. Thanks for taking the time to respond to us btw.

Whatever the reason is... I hope it doesn't involve me shipping my card anywhere.  I bought this card with so much enthusiasm & now I'll be without any gaming since I JUST began the process for an exchange/refund.. Hopefully we can avoid all that, can't wait to find out what the issue is !

I just got off the phone with technical support, all he was able to tell me is that it is a hardware issue, and they would do another RMA. Not too promising IMO, but ill reserve final judgement till tomorrow when either I call back or someone else has gotten more info on here.

Great news!!! A few questions...I have 2 in SLI if I call support will they be able to tell me if mine are affected? I have had this issue but lowering my clocks seems to have fixed this, but I have to be under 2000 Mhz for them to be stable which I'm guessing that should not be..please advise, also I purchased them via newegg.com should I get them replaced from EVGA to make sure I do not receive one with the issue?

Thanks!!

Re: GTX 1080 FTW - Black screen & fans spin up to 100% 2016/08/31 01:07:00 (permalink)
Please tell me that this is a BIOS update or something required. I just received my card today, have been testing with Heaven benchmark and have had the black screen 100% fans happen 3 times so far... really don't fancy doing an RMA and sending back a 1 day old card and being without it through the Battlefield 1 Open Beta period 😞

My very first EVGA card, disappointing start!
