Don't waste your time, just return it to get refund or switch to another brand. I spent tons of time to investigate this black screen issue by myself (changed drivers, reinstalled Win10, replaced other hardwares) before EVGA confirmed the hardware defect on 8-30. I'm still waiting for my RMA replacement, it's been 14 days! I'm feeling bad, really very very bad.

yiu1 Got a question about the RMA, do I need to pay the shipping cost first? As I need to ship the card to TW and just want to double check. Thanks
I think EVGA Taiwan will cover the shipping cost. But you need to check if you have to pay import duties when the replacement card is sent back from TW to your country. EVGA Taiwan support: supportTW@evga.com

I got this reply from EVGA Asia (TW) Dear Customer For black screen issue, please go to EVGA Asia Website to apply RMA first. 1. Go to asia.evga.com/default.asp 2. MEMBER HOME / My Products 3. Submit RMA request 4. Once getting EVGA RMA No, please pack the product well and stick the shipping label on the package. and then provide your contact information (Address, phone number, contact name and RMA number). And we will arrange courier to collect the card from you. Once we receive the card , we will advice our RD have firmware fixed the issue and send back the card to you ASAP. Thanks
Does this mean they're just going to update the firmware on my card and then send it back? So the problem is firmware? I'm not really sure about GPU but shouldn't firmware be upgradable by end users? I'm asking whether they allow me to do a step-up with the RMA to a Hyrbid or not, otherwise I actually don't mind keeping the same card as I'm managing 2088-2101Mhz with this one and I think I can push it a little more.

This all seems a little fishy to me, I wish EVGA would come out and say something or what exactly is causing this issue. I've seen a few people's RMA card still black screen on them. If it's just firmware then we should definitely be able to do something on our end.

So I got my RMA'd card back on the 10th September, and I just got the black screen 100% fan error AGAIN. They sent me a brand new card out, complete with retail box etc. The shop I bought it from will not refund me without charging 10% restocking fee. I am so fed up now, having spend £680 on a faulty product line that EVGA does not seem to be able to fix. This is my first time using EVGA, they came recommended and have a good reputation but unfortunately I am not seeing that, now I am going to have to RMA for a 2nd time. I don't even want this card anymore, I just want a refund so I could switch to a different brand/model. FTW 1080 for reference.

And what would you advise me if i want something else with same power? I was thinking about staying on EVGA but with the Superclocked

I don't think it is a good idea to talk about other brands here. I suggest you to google reviews since it's been a while from 10 series release. Even with the FE 1080, you will not see much power difference. And all 1080 overclock ability seem no big difference with current voltage limit.

What?! Where did the RMA'd card come from? Was it from EVGA directly? Or the shop just sent your another FTW which was made before 8-30?

It came from EVGA directly. I sent my old card back to their UK RMA center and they shipped me the new one out from Germany.

Just a quick update my RMA has been working flawlessly all weekend through extensive stress testing of VR games on the VIVE. I have been able to play Elite Dangerous for 8 hours without stopping and not a single crash.

My card came from EVGA directly aswell. The card i got from RMA was sealed in box. Even though the support person i talked to said the problem was fixed and new cards tested. Today i sent both 1080FTW cards back with UPS. Both the original i bought and the first RMA.
Now the "funny" thing is I have paid for 2 cards. 1 from the store and 1 as collateral from advanced RMA. And now i have 0 cards. and 0 money. Yaay me!

Same. They said any cards sent out after 30/08 wouldn't have this problem but that's simply not true as my RMA was processed between 05/09 and 10/09 and I still got a faulty card back. Really disappointed. Now I have to wait another week or two for another RMA, and who is to say I won't get another faulty card? Are the Classified model's reported to have this problem? If not they should be upgrading us to those.

indeed, im not saying they should dish out Classified for all RMA`s. But when they manage to send us a defective replacement. You should be entitled to some vip treatment. :P

That would be sweet but all I want is a solid explanation, if even the replacements are having the same problem I don't think it's actually fixed and they have no idea what's causing it.

Are September batches problem free about this issue? Due to custom problems and shipping cost, I don't want to go for RMA process. Instead, I am going to return it and buy new one from Amazon.

I wouldn't get a FTW if I had a choice now. My card came from EVGA directly in September and it's got the problem. I would choose a different model altogether.

I bought and received my card last week, threw on a FC ek block and believe I have gotten this issue. Black screen, nothing else works, can't task manager out, alt tab doesn't work and neither does alt f4. I believe I was playing overwatch and had to do a complete system reboot

Lucky you. I ordered mine directly from the eu.evga store also. And the card was dispatched 11 days ago. Theoritically, from the new fixed batch of FTWs.

Best alternative is the Asus strix (or MSI ) in my opinion. I wouldn't go with the SC because it's the reference board. I wouldn't go with zotac because the warranty is 2 years instead of the 3 like everyone else. (so they must use low quality parts or something)

FljpFl0p I got this reply from EVGA Asia (TW)
Dear Customer
For black screen issue, please go to EVGA Asia Website to apply RMA first. 1. Go to
2. MEMBER HOME / My Products
3. Submit RMA request
I received my RMA card FTW from EVGA TW last tuesday (Sep 13th), and the whole process took a week due to shipping (RMA approved on Sep 5th, EVGA TW sent out the card on Sep 12th). EVGA TW sent me a sealed retail package which I could think it is a new card instead of refurnishment. The serial number of the RMA card is different to my first card which I bought from Amazon. Since I got the RMA card, I am using my new PC regularly (playing WoW mainly, raid coming tomorrow), and the card didnt go black screen with 100% fan spinning yet (touchwood). I also ran skydiver for many times on the first day RMA card arrived, it was no crash at all. Refer to a post stating about the serial code, it makes me feeling that the defective card may come from a same factory (just a wild guess).
