skittishgibbon 1080 FTW checking in with the same black screen fans at 100%. Just setup my RMA and the guy on the phone acted like this was a known issue. Guess I won't get a replacement till next week. Seems like they should be overnighting to compensate on spending so much on broken card.

Dear boylag, I am sorry for any inconvenience as I am showing that the card that you received was shipped prior to 8/30. I am reaching out to you through email so that we can have this resolved to assist. boylag My RMA came back and I finally threw it in. Same as always play monstrom for two minutes and the same as every one happens. I am at a total loss. This was an expensive card and I am losing way too much recording time trying to get it to work. Dear skittishgibbon, I am very sorry for any confusion and I have emailed you directly to try and clear this up for you. Also for anyone having a problem with instability in some games, please enable "debug mode" in the NVidia control panel to avoid instability until your new replacement arrives. https://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59594 skittishgibbon 1080 FTW checking in with the same black screen fans at 100%. TheGuz4L Were you guys just getting the 100% fan issue/black screen? My card was also crashing games randomly more often (sometimes blue screen) even at stock speeds. Display Driver crashes and game crashes. I get my new card today so I hope it is all related. I had a GTX 780 for 3 years in the same setup that never crashed until I put this 1080 FTW card in...
Yes *mostly* the back screen and very loud fans - sometimes with the game still playing in the background but even then requires a hard power-down. I was also getting occasional other issues, such as freezing or stuttering but mostly when using the XOC software with the 'factory' overclock. What is most interesting to me is almost all of the reports of this issue I have seen so far have reported the factory overclock at '2025Mhz' (mine too) - I don't think that can be a coincidence because my understanding is these parts would more than likely have differing factory over-clocks and it almost seems like these all had the same 'incorrect' overclock. My uneducated guess is EVGA have a newer version of the FTW/ACX card coming out and this batch had the incorrect BIOS, or at least the incorrect factory overclock data in their BIOS. For me I could get the crash to happen 100% of the time by doing this in Elite Dangerous: 1. With fresh driver install after a DDU, making sure debug mode is not enabled in Nvidia control panel. 2. Install XOC, enter serial number, and leave at default factory overclock. 3. Boot elite dangerous into the game (solo or online doesn't matter). 4. Open the SYSTEM MAP. 5. Zoom in to a sun or planet. 6. Get treated to a black screen with fans going insane. I could sometimes also get the same crash by initiating a hyperspace jump while looking sideways out of the cockpit at a close up sun. After enabling DEBUG mode in the Nvidia drivers the problem went away 75% of the time, but would still crash occasionally. Using MSI afterburner to force the fans to 100% seemed to bring it up to 95% stable, but doing the same with XOC made no difference. In fact it seems to me that just having XOC installed/running results in much more frequent crashing, but that could just be a coincidence. EVGA have already started the RMA process for me with an complimentary advance RMA and all shipping charges covered, so I am really really happy I chose EVGA for the warranty =)

Having the same issue here, purchased on Thursday and installed that same night. Loaded up World Of Warcraft, and it would crash 30 mins later. I tried a different cable, PCI Express port, and reinstall drivers. Called up EVGA and got a RMA going, debug helps for a little but it only buys an extra hour or 2 of game time. I should have my replacement here shortly, they have a great support team. Just dealing with a brand new product with this type of issue is really annoying, especially when you want to game and only have a 2-3 hour window of play time. Hopefully they have a better plan of action moving forward. EVGA is one of my favorite component companies, wouldn't buy from anyone else.

Call them. Tell them the issue. They should know all about it.

I just underclocked down 200Mhz and set power target to 50%. Everything seems stable now and am able to play games, with less FPS. If this is just issue with overclock, they could have just given us a BIOS update. So I assume something wrong with the power delivery on the card?

This is a hardware defect. RMA it before it's too late. You bought a FTW edition card for a reason and it was not to underclock it.

I bought my 1080FTW from www.jd.com which is the valid EVGA GPU products online retailer in China, and yesterday EVGA 1080FTW and 1080SC were taken off shelvs from there, don't know the reason. As far as I know there are also several defect 1080FTW cards sold from there except mine, it seems it's not only "a small number" to me.

I think its a "small number" considering how many of the 1080 FTWs that must have been sold around the world test20090424. Im assuming there,d be hundreds of people venting their anger and frustration on here if it was a widespread fault?? Ive mentioned in previous posts that OCUK are possibly one of the biggest suppliers of components here in the UK,ive yet to see a post on their forums regarding this issue. Ive also previously said that i honestly believe that there is a percentage of cards that have the issue. Id be rightly cheesed off if i happened to have it but...at least with EVGA you get a fantastic aftersales support, their already advance RMAing...ive 2 friends who are in the middle of RMA,ing their MSI 1070 gaming X,s due to memory issues..and their both having a right old time of it.

The frustration is that here we have no such good customer service as you guys living in US or EU. I returned my FTW to the online store and they told me it will take 30 working days to finish the whole process. I bought this card just one month ago (barely played properly) and now I have to wait another month. It's a new card and pretty expensive to me, so it's really disappointing. Another option was to RMA directly to EVGA Taiwan, but it will cost around 70 USD for the import duty when the card returns back from Taiwan. And EVGA Taiwan told me they won't pay it for me.

RMA Update: Received my card today. Stock clocks are much lower than my previous card out of the box. (1936 or so out of the box when running a game) I was able to overclock to 2000 mhz / 5500 (11000) on memory so far. 2025 core crashed quickly in Overwatch, so I downclocked it to 2000. NO Crashes so far, played over 1 hour of Battlefield 1. I will keep monitoring it as games before would randomly crash, even at stock clocks. EDIT: Ran firestrike & Heaven simultaniously for 8 hours. No crashes. May have a stable clock here hopefully...

Try overclocking with your memory at default. Set the voltage to 100% so precision will allow the card to use all the voltage it can. Then set the power and tempt to max. Test the overclocks with 3dmark firestrike. That way you don't mess up your game when it locks up. Usually you'll get a driver error message pop up if it freezes and it will recover without worry.
I usually max the fans but at least set them manually as high as you can bear.

Well unfortunately my FTW has done the same thing a couple of times. Fans at full speed and PC has to be restarted. I haven't had any issues since switching the BIOS switch to the 130% Power setting. I'll wait to see how it goes since I'm in Australia and would have to RMA through Taiwan I think. Has anybody tested between BIOS's?

Like what was said here earlier many times this is appears to be an issue with defective cooling and thermal expansion so whilst down clocking or debug mode may seem to "fix" the issue it will come up again later with more frequency as thermal expansion catches up.
Your best bet is to return to your retailer for store credit and get another brand OR RMA to EVGA insisting postage and any import duties fully paid.
Once again, down clocking to what appears to be stable is NOT going to work. I had a sample size of two and I'm confident eventually this will happen to you again as it did to both my cards.
This is also definitely not a small percentage all cards are plagued with this issue. Why else are there so many more views than posters? Most people just read and then RMA directly without even posting.

As I m running in debug mode to avoid the black screen... I have noticed stuttering appearing after a while during gameply in multiple games (F1 2016, Killing floor 2, COD BOIII), My system was rock solid previously with a 780ti and I never experienced that kind of issue in the past. Could it be linked to the black screen issue? Would be good to know the root cause of all this, either PCB design flaw, bios, VRM , cooling system ....
