Can someone tell me how much is the collateral money we must give for the advanced RMA???

The full price of the card that is listed on the EVGA site unless they are doing something special due to the this case.

New card arrived today, about to install and test it out shortly. First thing i noticed is that the outside of the box matches my first card that i bought from Jet.com on August 11th. It is different from the box containing my replacement that i recieved on Aug. 29th.

Inside the box, instead of a foam box inside holding the card it is a thin plastic. I have yet to look at the cooler itself but there were several differences between my 1st and 2nd cards, notably the heatpipes on the 1st were a dull metal with squared off ends, while the 2nd has shiny heatpipes with a more pointed end. I'm curious to see which this will be, since i see no way of determining the actual manufacturing date?

Before I open this 1080ftw is it possible to verify my card will not have the issue by serial number?

Hi,

If you are in the US or Canada then we use our EAR program and the collateral is not charged up front.  If you are in any other region then we use our local program and the collateral is held with PayPal.

Hi,

I can confirm that it is random and only occurs on a very small number of cards.  Likely you will not be affected and can just game like normal, but if you should receive any stability issues with crashing to a black screen then please enable debug mode in the NVIDIA control panel as a temporary fix and notify us so that we can help you with a exchange of the product.

I overclocked mine, but i can barley reach 2000mhz, and for that i need 100% fan speed otherwise it clocks down, this card gets a lot hotter than the other one i had. But maybe this one is more normal and i just had luck to get a card that went at 2025mhz before. (even though it blacked screen 3 weeks after i got it) Anyway no black screen yet and hopefully wont get any.

My new one has pretty annoying coil whine and OC's a smidge less. Chance of it crashing vs an annoying card. Woe is me, lol.

Did they ship you a brand new card in the retail box?  Still waiting on mine.   Also how do you ship back the card?  Put the busted one back in the retail box with the cables etc and send it back?

Also how are your clocks out of the box and does it crash on Rocket League like your other?

I have both blue screened and black screened with my 1080 hybrid but it may have been due to an unstable overclock. Currently using a +50 mhz oc, no crashes yet on it since I applied it on August 20. (It crashed at +100/125/150/200 mhz)   GPU OC runs around 2,040 mhz @ +50 mhz

I am fearful that there is a chance my card has the issue though I'm happy for now.

I got this black screen/100% fan issue that happened about 3 times since I received it (2016-08-04). If I recall correctly, I was playing Guild Wars 2 during two of those black screens but I don't remember what I was doing for the other one. It doesn't seem to happen frequently so should I still RMA it?

I just had very bad luck this summer after I ordered the 1080 FTW around June 1st and my previous card died around June 10th. I actually received the RMA for my old card exactly the same day as I got my 1080 FTW (2016-08-04) (NewEgg didn't even include the signature option...) so I don't want to be stuck on a weaker card for a few weeks again =( (In Canada). I have a Vive too, so it sucks not being able to use it for almost 2 months!

Just got my 1080 FTW yesterday, and it is doing the black screen + fans 100% thing. A quick google brings me here, and the thread seems to suggest a RMA is the only option :/

It is good to read that I am not isolated in having this issue at least. Will be contacting EVGA support now.

It's just unbelievable to me that EVGA is still selling the current stock of these cards at the retailers and have not recalled these cards.
I just don't understand. Why risk  selling  the current stock of these cards out there  since so many  are bad. And even if just a few are bad imagine  the  headache it is for people who get a bad one. My confidence with EVGA is shaken and I doubt I will ever come back.

Dear Acorns,

I am sorry to hear that your card is having this problem.  Please don't forget to enable the debug option in the NVidia control panel until you receive your new replacement.  This will stop any further crashes and allow for stable game play.

Hi raxtor,

I recommend to enable the Debug mode in the NVidia control panel and give us a call, this way we can setup a cross shipment on your card to assist and you can play your games like normal in the meantime.

My card is doing this as soon as I open Guild Wars 2 and Overwatch. I have not play many other games for too long. I put in a ticket and hope to get RMA soon...
I set my Nvidia Control panel to debug mode and it still does it.
edit: debug mode seem to help a bit. but now I am not getting the advertised speed. still want to RMA  nope it's still doing it... :( I guess no games until RMA comes in...

Chris,

I need to RMA my card but based in HK.  Can you confirm that the Taiwan office has the hardware fix implemented?

Well thank goodness that all of these are now out of stock at Newegg so no one else has to suffer this defect. Recall recall recall immediately.

Same here just received mine today from Amazon and 15-30 mins into ED on the VIVE I get a black screen and fans at maximum. I have to actually unplug my machine to get it to reboot.

I did notice the temps were around 65C on the OSD right before the crashes occur. I will try cleaning all drivers out again tomorrow and enable debug mode etc. but this does look like another RMA case.

-Update-

I received my 3rd today after the first two had the defect. It was shipped out to me on the 31st so it was part of The "new?" batch of cards that are supposed to have the fix implemented. My 2 bad cards were having random artifacting and crashing to black screen and full speed fans within 30 minutes of rocket league.

The new card has not crashed in about 3 hours of rocket league, so that is promising for sure but i still feel quite uneasy about the card in general. I feel like im constantly just waiting for it to fail rather than truly enjoying my new build. Additionally, my first card would boost to 2025 mhz but this new card only goes to 1923 and so i lost some performance. Tried to overclock but even +50mhz causes Heaven benchmark to crash so thats dissapointing. I know thats within advertised speeds, and i dont really care about intense overclocking but at this point the boost is a tiny bit dissapointing and nothing above that even stable if i wanted to push it.

That said, the support i received was phenomenal so thank you to Chris B and the rest of the guys who helped me out with this ordeal. Unfortunately **** happens sometimes, and EVGA is no more immune to it than any other business. The only thing convincing me to keep this card rather than return it and look elsewhere, is the top notch customer support, because overall the 1080 FTW is not the card i want in my system any longer, and it really sucks because it's the card i had my eye on for months leading up to this.

Got my replacement card yesterday, so far so good. As others have noticed, mine overclocks less as well. So I've managed +50mhz for a total of 1987mhz, which is about 50mhz less than my previous (defective) card. Kind of disappointing that it overclocks so weak compared to other cards and can't even cross the 2000mhz mark that most 1080's seem capable of, but oh well, at least it isn't crashing anymore.

1923 isn't bad. I decided not to replace my EVGA FTW with another one because I would have been in the same boat as you and would have to send in one replacement after another and I didn't want to do that. One thing that EVGA didn't really realize when they created the FTW and SC cards was how much of an impact GPU boost 3.0 would have.. GPU boost 3.0 basically turns EVERY GTX 1080 into a superclocked or FTW card! There's really no need to have these Factory overclocks in my opinion because it basically pushes one overclock clock on top of another  and then  when people receive the cards  they add a third overclock  and  it pushes the card too much!  Think about this for a moment, the reference GTX 1080 is rated to boost to only 1733 out of the box. So GPU Boost 3.0 basically pushes that to over 1900 in many cases. Nvidia basically designed all of the GTX 1080's to already be overclocked out of the box. It does it for you!! The only Headroom I believe that exists after that is maybe 50 to 100 megahertz if we are lucky. And we're lucky if it will be stable then. Let me tell you how my new non factory overclocked card which is an MSI gaming card compares. Out of the box without any Factory overclock it boosts to 1911 megahertz. I can push it 50 to 75 megahertz higher without it crashing. The biggest difference I found is the cooling. While my EVGA FTW card would always get to 80c my MSI card barely ever gets above 72c. So really the biggest trade off for me really has been the quality of the community in the forums. 😊

Do you have this black screen issue? If so, then why not just do RMA or get refund?
It's a hardware malfunction, you won't know what upcoming games will crash it.
And about the Boost 3.0, I didn't hear this black screen issue from other brand. Maybe EVGA did some simple mistake somehow.

I had this black screen issue weeks ago. Screen would turn black and fans would spin to 100%. If when I first got it if I chose to replace the card I would have gotten just another defective one in return so I just got a store credit from Newegg and chose an MSI 1080.  EVGA basically just made a major mistake and overclocked these cards too much... Or who knows maybe it was a defective chip on the card or something. It's just interesting that the replacement cards people are getting have lower top speeds.

You did a smart choice and really lucky about the store credit!
Newegg China here is just a joker. Haven't bought anything from there since five years ago.
And I'm just curious how EVGA could make this fix so quickly.

Support has been amazing though. No crazy troubleshooting steps or treating me like I am the one that is making a mistake. They are very understanding of this issue and RMA process started quickly. Hope to have my new GPU soon. Support here has been the best compared to other companies I've worked with in the past.
