wow3120120 just to let you know guys, I sent back my card to RMA. I ordered a new PSU too (Supernova 750W). I hope the problem is not my motherboard (GIGABYTE GA-Z170XP-SLI), but I don't think so, everything were working fine till I changed my GPU...
There was nothing wrong with your PSU and there is nothing wrong with your motherboard. Again the issues you had were because the factory overclock failed. That's it. This is why enabling debug mode works so well, it returns the card to reference card clock speeds.

Wow I am so glad I found this thread, I've been up all night troubleshooting and researching what my problems could be. I just built a brand new PC with a 1080 FTW and have the exact same symptoms as everyone in here. It's sucked because I got my pc at the same time as my friend who's build is identical to mine but he hasn't had any issues while playing at the factory overclock of 2000ish mhz. Because of ya'lls advice I will be RMA'ing mine and hoping the next one will let me go back to being able to game with my buddy.

I tried playing the witcher 3 in debug mode which lowered the clock to 1850mhz but still black screened after a few minutes.

Feel you. It sucks, problem like this with a 1000$ card should not happen... I RMA mine and still waiting for the replacement. I give it a one more chance. If I still have problem, I will ask a refund and I will go with the MSI gaming X.

EVGA should immediately issue a recall and stop selling these FTW cards!! Here's my theory on how it went at the manufacturing plant: So out of a hundred cards manufactured they took a sample of 10 cards to test for overclocking stability. So 7 out of these 10 cards failed so rather than deciding to go back to the drawing board and find out why they failed they instead decided to create a whole new category of graphics card called the FTW DT! So now they can sell the FTW DT cards which are basically those 7 that failed their tests and we're down tuned as a result... hence the name FTW DT. For cost reasons they decided not to test the other 90 cards but instead just assumed that they would be ok! And now we the users are stuck with our games crashing and these stupid black screens and fighting with the retailers to get our money back! What a cluster f@#$$!! For a moment I actually thought I would get a FTW DT card, but then I thought what the hell am I thinking getting a $700 card that actually has been DT (Down Tuned)!! Hell no! So no more EVGA for me. I decided to get the MSI gaming 8G. I would rather get a non overclocked card and overclock it myself and ensure stability.

Is this real? I got about 2 days ago new gpu and now my computer was crashed and only where I can get out picture outside is something else card that 1080 FTW or integrated gpu. This is my second 1080 FTW. First one has that fan problem. Now my screen is only black and nothing coming out. RMA again?

No RMA this time. Just return it and get your money back and get a completely different card.

Has this been a common problem with 1070 FTW editions, too? I just started a thread asking for help on this exact kind of crash with my 1070 FTW- black screen, sound continues and mouse pointer is the only thing visible. I have to power down to reboot... It sounds like I might have a dud card as well and after reading this whole thread I am pretty disgusted with EVGA. My last 6 cards/MB's have been EVGA but if I have to return this card I am getting MSI and never buying another EVGA product again.

What do you mean by reset your bios? Your computer's bios? Was your cpu overclocked?

For those of you still experiencing this, try running the SFC scanner described here. It's built into windows so the short version is that you run command prompt as administrator and enter "sfc /scannow" and it searches for corrupted windows files. After nearly pulling my hair out the past few days thinking my card was a dud because of this very problem with black screen crashing, this actually seems to have helped a lot. I first had to run it after sweeping my drivers right after my windows 10 upgrade installation because they were so jacked that even a clean nvidia install wasn't working. Now driver sweeping again when upgrading cards seems to have messed things up for me again. But after scanning I was able to put in a decent length overclocked shift in doom without any crashes for the first time since I got my new card.

Sajin Just a FYI to everyone monitoring this thread... the OP's issue was resolved by rma'ing the card.
It certainly was. Had a great weekend playing hours of Just Cause 3. Such a great game with everything maxed.
FWIW - The new drivers came out with just enough time for me to test with before I returned the old card. I used the anniversary version and experienced the same crashes.
What I will say from following this thread is this. If you are experiencing any issues then start with the basics before going down rabbit holes of crazy troubleshooting ideas. Read and follow Sajin's stickied thread.

I predict that you have a 1 in 10 chance of the replacement working. The fact that EVGA had to create a whole new category of cards called the FTW DT that proves that many of their sample cards failed at their Factory overclock. So now the question is how many cards did they not test? So if this replacement fails as well make sure that your retailer gives you a refund or store credit. Personally I have given up on EVGA all together and purchased a different card. I was lucky enough to have Newegg give me a store credit.

I wish this were the case for mine, tried running a scan windows did not find any integrity violations. Mine still crashes even when underclocking , going to wait for my RMA. Hopefully it works.

That really sucks, when the scan finished for me it gave me a message saying that it found and corrected corrupted files. I still have some more testing to do before I can say with total certainty that it fixed my crashing but I am hopeful since I was able to play an hour or two at 2080mhz

I hope the odds are a little more in my favor than that lol but we will see. My friend has one that works perfectly fine which is what gave me hope to try another one.

I personnally think the 1 in 10 chance is a bit OTT,i totally understand that Landerx74 must be absolutely cheesed off with his experiences,i certainly would be but.. If this was a major issue then this and other forums would be in meltdown and EVGA would HAVE to recall the cards. Im also a member on the ocuk forums and i have,nt (to my Knowledge) seen anybody report this issue. Not for one minute am i saying it does,nt exist just not to the extent that Lander says. In a earlier post he quotes "So out of a hundred cards manufactured they took a sample of 10 cards to test for overclocking stability. So 7 out of these 10 cards failed". I dont believe that for one moment, what so only 30 out of 100 FTW cards work properly? like i said if that was the case ALL forums (Scan,Ocuk,EVGA,Overclockers) and others would be in meltdown and EVGA would have to respond. TBH though guys id like to see a EVGA rep on here to explain these possible issues with some FTW 1080,s. I sincerely hope that all of you that have had to RMA get a great card this time round
My Affiliate Code: 0AXK9S2R5X My 1st EVGA product..it certainly wont be my last

Hi Everyone. Having the same issue with my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW that i received yesterday. non GPU demanding games run great without any issues what so ever (Overwatch and Fallout 4 just to name a couple) but more demanding games that require the GPU clock rate to boost such as Total War: Warhammer cause black screen and 100% fan after 5-10 minutes. Contacting EVGA as i type this to try and get a RMA. ran the SFC scanner as BranC85 suggested but my windows seems clean Card seems to run fine with Debug mode enabled but it would be annoying to turn it on every time i boot the pc. debug mode also seems to cause issues with windows booting properly after a shutdown and when i finally boot causes the keyboard to act strange Hopefully have more luck with the next card.

If it is not too late my suggestion would be to return the card to the place that you bought it. See if they will do that for you..maybe give you store credit..I strongly suspect that only 1 out of 10 of these FTW - Fail to Win cards actually work like they are supposed to. Get the stock card if you want to stick with EVGA and then just overclock it yourself.

I have the same problem when playing NBA2K16 at 4k downsampling with 120 Hz. This happens random. One day I can play the whole day without any issue the other day not. Wonder what I can do more to solve this. My windows is clean installed and I updated driver with DDU (it happened with 368 and the new 372 driver) That sounds like an issue similar to the 9 series cards. I think EVGA should take a close look at this topic and bring a bios update.

Update on my side of things. only game that causes black screen and gpu fan 100% for me is Total War Warhammer. everything else has been fine so far. might just be an issue with the game for me. Ran Heaven Benchmark for about 1 hour 15 minutes this morning and didn't have a single problem. going to try some other games too. probably Witcher 3, Doom, Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Division.

When i get a new card i always let it idle for 72 hours before i run any game or benchmark. Before i install new card i always format and do clean Windows install. In case of Windows 10 i keep network cable unplugged until i get all the drivers loaded to prevent Microsoft bull**** with pushing outdated drivers via Windows Update which cannot be controlled. Everytime you update drivers i suggest to unplug network cable, clean it up, install new ones and plug network cable in. I got 1080 FTW Last week and didn't have any probs so far. I don't use OCX Precision. I use Aida64 to display its information on Logitech G15 LCD Screen. I noticed the highest temperature i got was 75C while playing Doom and Crysis 3. Highest boost clock was 1869 Mhz. Black screen issue i had was with my last card GTX 470 years ago and funny thing was that i was getting same issue with three different eVga cards. It was a painful process i never resolved so i dropped those cards to different system and magically there was no more of issue. At that point i switched to AMD cause i had no money to afford new mobo and what not. A point i want to make is if you could test your card on different system and see if same thing happens. There could be multiple factors causing this issue. Evga 1080 FTW requires 2x8pin connectors. Do you run these from same rail or two rails? I suggest to connect 8pin connectors from two different rails, to split that power across evenly unless you really have some bad ass 1000+ PSU...then it won't matter. These cards can also be sensitive to BIOS settings like PCIe AUTO vs. Gen3, boot Legacy vs UEFI, CPU and Memory clock, Blck speed? If you are running Intel check if your Blck is 100Mhz or perhaps shoots over and if so lower it by 1Mhz, it might help 1080 FTW. Just ideas and good luck guys.

i believe my 2x8 pin connectors are run from the same rail. PSU is a Corsair AX1200 1200W. ran a GTX690 for 3 and a half year, untill its VRAM failed, before getting this 1080. ran Fallout 4 for annother 75 minutes with no issues. currently testing Rise of the Tomb Raider, 20 minutes in a no issues. thinking my issue is just with Total War Warhammer thanks for the tips though :)

Another Update with my 1080. Crashed on Rise of the Tomb Raider after 90 minutes. seems like it crashes on every game after a while just some it crashes sooner then others (Total War: Warhammer after 5-10 minutes) spoke to the retailers and am returning it to them. Currently borrowing my Friends old PNY GTX 580 and have had no issues in any game what so ever.

Just when you go to the retailer try to get a store credit and under no circumstance get another EVGA GTX 1080 FTW.

MisterWhale what card would you recommend? a different EVGA 1080 or do you think the SC and Classified will have the same issue? i hear that the MSI Gaming X is pretty good, my friend has a Zotac card he's ran into no issues with it and says it runs great. havn't heard much about Asus' Cards with the 10 Series
