Good morning.  It always makes me nervous to flash my vid cards but I really do want the full range fan.  I have two gtx460s (1373's) in sli.  Does it flash them both at the same time, sequentially, do I have to run it twice?  Anybody ever brick their card with this utility?
Thanks in advance!

It will detect both cards and flash one at a time. You only need to run it once.

It's a quick painless process.

01G-P3-1373-XX 1GB SC EE worked great for me.  I love how fast it was, compared to most firmware updates.

Thanks EVGA, this is why I keep coming back, good utilities and drivers.

My Card will not update with  the latest fpb bios.  I followed all directions with no luck, the exe will open window then close.  Any help with this will be great.

With what browser you tried it? The best is IE, others didn't work for me (not Mozilla, not Opera).  First i downloaded with Mozilla, but after starting flash it came error message. So i tried IE and then it worked fine.

Got a question.

My friend got this card one week ago.  It looks like the speeds are already at 720/1440 and he can set his fan up to 100%

I'm pretty sure this means the FPB is already installed, but if he tries to run the update.exe and hit Y, will the FPB updater tell me that the update is already in place?

Just curious.

No, it will run again. But why should you run the update a second time, when the card has already the update :-S ? Seems a bit nonsense ;-)

I bought GTX 460 01G-P3-1370-TR 3 weeks ago. I can raise the fan speed to 100% already and the core speed raised to 720 MHz during the benchmark test.

Do I need this update?
Please advice

Does this 6+ extra core boost generate much heat?
I use the Evga GTX 460 1024mb EE 1371

This is my first posting on EVGA forums.

While I understand a lot of people are unhappy with this free performance upgrade, I actually have two 460 FTW's as well as a plain jane 460-1gb.  I am very happy with EVGA and things of this nature only quantify me staying an EVGA customer.

Not to knock EVGA in ANY WAY, I would however like to ask you to build an auto update tool, one that can identify and upgrade the card(s) as appropriate.

Keep up the great work EVGA!

EDIT:  Actually a complete EVGA update tool would be great.  Much like LG with their DVD drives.  It could identify the card, talk back to an EVGA database and suggest a bios update for you.  You click a button and your card is updated... automagically.

Motherboard manufacturers have had these for ages.

You gotta look at your part number on the box or barcode on the gpu not just the name.  Then just install that version from the first page.

I dont think the number of the bios means anything as far as its older. My bios was 70.04.13.00.74 and after update it is now 70.04.1B.00.70.And if you have the fan on auto, you should hear it speed up while in a game.

This occurred with my card as well, a gtx460 1gb SC EE. I am still uncertain whether i have upgraded, downgraded, sidegraded or what. The flash tool simply did this by default like with yours and I have to just trust it's judgement atm which is worrying considering its uninformative state. The 70 at the end is what concerns me, it certainly is a lesser number than 74, whether this means anything i dont know. The card's functionality has not appeared to have changed at all including fan speeds but like others the thought sits in the back of my head and it would be nice to have it confirmed or denied by someone in the know. The numbers are confusing as to an indication of what is later or earlier. Also the bios flashing tool really gives no indication of whether your card really requires the bios in the fpb or whether it just flashes a compatible card no matter what it sees. It appears to just flash everything without discrimination which is worrying if people are now flashing cards backwards due to the shelf items having newer bioses generally now than offered in this fpb (Considering this fpb appears to have been released in August 2010, and it is now November 2010). In this regard, I agree with tristan.crockett above that some sort of gui for this flash tool may be helpful or at least something in the order of the mobo flash tools (eg asus and gigabyte flash tools for motherboards) that give a small gui with the current bios and the bios to be flashed and an indication whether, in fact, the to be flashed bios is actually later than the current version and therefore should be flashed.

And if a bunch of us have flashed do we need to flash back to shelf bios or not? and, if so, is there a link for those releases somewhere on the ftp.
Any reply by a moderator or tech would be appreciated in this regard

On a side note, I had this card lock up, black screen and generally misbehave in ways that others have described in this forum and elsewhere in a  system with an Antec 550psu under load (very annoying when in the middle of tanking a Warcraft dungeon or snipering someone in an fps lol) and after checking i realised i had three 12v rails and one of them was being maxed out (was 2 fans i had lazily connected to a 12v rail, along with a couple of hdd's rather than use the dedicated "fans only" connectors that come on most psu's nowadays). After redistributing the voltage load over the rails proportionately the card ran sweet no lockups or black screens. These cards take something in the range of 350 watts of power under load which is much more than the 200 or so or less that the 8800gtx and 9800gtx cards took on a comparable system. So issues may arise with power with these new cards they may not have arisen with previous cards as i found out (i replaced a 9800gtx that failed after about 18 months). On the same note, an 850 watt psu with one rail maxed out and not properly distributed voltage will crash just like a 550 watt psu with the same setup so on all psu's even beefy ones check your rails. Proportionate distribution of voltage is a must. The card is hungry and certainly the 470 and 480 cards even more so. 550 watt minimum psu for 460 with proper load distribution and normal devices connected and higher for the 470 and 480 cards (I'd be going 650 watt (470) and 850 watt (480) minimum, respectively, for those, not even factoring sli) to keep an 85% or under load on your psu for stability.

As for fan profiles, set one. The default auto setting seems only adequate to keep the card cool under normal loads and not heavy 3d games. After testing this out a bit i found that keeping the fan percentage at least 10 above the corresponding degrees of the card works well. Eg, at 40 degrees fan runs at 50 percent, at 50 degrees fan runs at 60 percent and so on worked well to keep the card cool in 3d games. This, of course, can depend on your particular card and how hot it runs by default. Adjust accordingly using precision or afterburner. I actually prefer precision but it is a personal preference thing with people so apply similar principles.

You answerd your own question already: you can change fan speed till 100% and your clocks are 720/1440Mhz, so what do you want to change with the update? From 720/1440 to 720/1440? The new cards already got that update, so it's no need.
And reading out the bios you can with GPU-Z.

@driftguy: My card is running same like before, even with 750/1500Mhz it runs cool at same temps like before: 26-28°C idle and 59°C 30min Furmark.

Try changing your fan speed. If you can set it only from 40-70%, than you need the update. If you can set it from 30-100%, than not. Other changes your SC will not get, only the thing to change fan speed.

Thank you very much,
I tested my fan and I can put it at 30% and 80% without problems.
Then, I do not need the update.
Thanks for your help,

Like explained above: if you can change fan speed between 30-100%, you got already FPB update. Original the NV setting is from 40% till 70%. And if you got a normal 460 (not SC, SC+ or FTW), you can see it at clocks also (should be 720/1440Mhz).

Guys how far do you think i could overclock with this? Would it be worth it or pointless cuz it's overclocked anyways or should i go for it? I have overclocked in the past. Done 2 GTS 250 in SLi. Now i have this and i am wondering how far i can go and never have problems and make gaming experience great for Crysis and dx11 games and more. Advice? I'm a very proud owner of this and i wanna thank EVGA for providing such an incredible energy efficient power usage i ever seen.

I am very very amazed how temps are on this puppy. I'm looking forward to get another one in the future and go SLi. I just need a better psu. Ain't in a hurry right now :D

I obtain 800/1600/2100 in sli with a gtx460 sc.

gain 4 to 5 fps in unigine heaven more in crysis in avp.
