the contest qualification round requires you to fold from 12:01 AM Central Time (GMT -6:00) on Sunday February 14th, 2021 to 11:59 PM Central Time (GMT -6:00) on Tuesday February 16, 2021 in order to qualify for the contest

Question, does this mean continuous folding?  Or you just need to have been folding during this time?  I only have one PC and it has to deal with both folding and working from home.

Unless you're doing encoding or serious hardware task dependent stuff; you'll barely notice anything at all.

Re: Folding Year 13 Folding Community Contest 2021/02/08 16:26:40 (permalink)
you can fold with GPU only and leave CPU for tasks- for work
unless you are using computer for multimedia or graphics work -meaning basic word processing should not even dent/affect folding that much nor should calculations - spreadsheets

you can adjust how much GPU power is devoted to it from light ->medium->full
so you can leave some GPU power for work
or
gpu-usage <integer=100> as percent of gpu used

there is also a setting to fold while idle when computer is not in use- meaning when in use it stops folding
 idle-seconds <integer=300>

V7 configs
https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=301922

the contest is not full time folding(u can tho if u want to) - just what you project to make daily on AVG

It is not required that you fold 24/7 as not everyone is able to do so, but you should maintain your regular folding output.  Taking breaks for work/games/etc is fine as long as you're getting in some folding everyday.  Be sure to report an appropriate PPD to reflect how much you'll be able to fold during the contest.

As others have pointed out, if you're doing basic tasks such as office work, web browsing, email, etc. it will not impact your ability to run FAH on the same machine.

Thanks, yes I leave it running during the work day, but it gets shut off for a few hours in the evening for gaming especially Tuesdays so that's why I was concerned.

Signed up.  I goofed on my entry form.  I left two zeros off my PPD...  Is there a way to edit that?

Thanks

Not available for production, but will donate something to the prize pool as soon as I can access it. My phone won't let me do anything.

I might need to drop my PPD estimate down a bit, not sure I can reach around 5 mil consistently, 4 mil would be more likely, if you can adjust that.

Sorry to hear you're unable to participate this year, but incredibly generous to throw in a prize even though you're not able to fold.  Also great to see the famous zophar 'surprise' prize is back!

To many other projects going on to get a machine up and running. But I will say that being back on here in the last 24 hours has me starting to itch to build another machine lol. But it definitely wouldn't happen soon enough to enter in the contest. And the surprise is always fun. Can't remember (does this mean I'm getting old?) what all I've done as the surprise in years past. I do remember one time it was a GPU, another time was a motherboard or PSU. Those are the only ones that come to mind right now.

Welcome aboard!

I'm trying really hard to feel bad for your paltry 12M PPD, but even though your down to 4 GPUs you're still a giant to those of us down in the 2M range!

As of a minute ago, there are like 0 gpu work units available. This might be the lowest scoring event ever if we can only do cpu jobs.

question about one of the rules:
"You may not pause, stop or otherwise disrupt normal flow of work units to gain an advantage."
How does this relate to say, trying to get a WU from a server that isn't handing out WU regularly? We've had some times when the WU don't want to be assigned right away.

That means no blacklisting ips, or dumping units in process because you dont like the ppd estimate.
In general, pausing while gaming and otherwise using the pc are acceptable.
Just in time fir the contest, the aws3 server is back up with a quarter million gpu work units.

Will do my best to nail that 3M PPD number I put in the form ^_^ Qualifying period is 14th-16th right?  Hopefully I don't have power issues, we're expecting heavy snow Sunday - if we get an outage I'll be sure to let you know I may not hit the target that day.

Getting a single new addition to the stats rig - A cooler for the NVME drive with a fan on it - I've identified a thermal dead space just at the drive where none of my case fans really get movement to, so I don't want to have thermal slowdown on the drive screwing things up.  That arrives and gets installed tomorrow, and an evening of test folding on that box starts.

I got one, but it got sent to my old EVGA account I first set up (fragilityV1 no underscore).  I screwed something up setting up the account and abandoned it.  Guess it's still alive.  Just happened to be checking the yahoo account it was linked to.

Is there really a shortage of wu’s at the moment? I’ve been crunching so not sure but I hope they fix that.

from what I've gathered there are, not because of problems with any work server, but because they just don't have the right WU to give out, being finished faster than they can create new ones.
