If that 3 way SLI vs quad 690 graph is true, in some games just 2 say SLI is going to be better then a 690 quad setup?  That's just crazy.

That was what I was wondering. Does the 2.0 mean twice as cool, or twice as expensive?

It doesn't matter what the graph references are, as long as they are linear (which they are).

That's the point of performance graph like this, you could use simple numbers, FPS, percentage, whatever you like. In the end they are all the same.

I ask that question to my self everytime I see a Nvidia graph. It's either FPS or performance percentage increase, in either case, the increase is almost jack squat to not even warrant making a graph at all.

Only thing this card will realy excel at is insane multimonitor resolutions with that 6GB of VRAM and the litte extra horse power and memory bandwidth. Otherwise, your standard 4GB GTX680 will still do just fine at a regular 1920x1200 or 2560x1440 resolution.

So despite turning up the resolution and detail BF3, BL2 and Batman remain CPU-intensive (not using the power of the graphics card), seeing how the CPU was left at stock 3.3GHz, I'm not surprised.  Skyrim is a balance of CPU- and GPU-intensive, while the the three were more GPU-intensive if they scale so well.  It shows that results may vary.  If someone tried WoW, the upcoming SimCity or upcoming Lost Planet 3; they can't refer to that graph without a reference (at least if they knew performance in one game matches another).

Considering that EVGA got first dibs on GTX690 and Asus came later, and since the Asus Titan was first to get accidentally published, I'd say EVGA's Titan either shows up in a few weeks or farther.  Thought even crossed my mind EVGA won't sell this at all, even back to default where I doubted it existed all over again.

I've noticed some folks will deny evidence if they don't like a conclusion, people shouldn't deny that we knew a lot more of previous generations by this point in time than of Titan.  But once I suggest a conclusion no one likes, what else is going to happen?  Many don't seem smart enough to simply draw another conclusion from the same evidence.  For instance, if there is just one vendor, then its that vendor that was able to keep everything tightly locked down.

Thus my bet in that other thread about Titan matching GTX690 might have a chance, the extra bandwidth per GPU compensated for lower rendering fill rate.  But that chart only showed a handful of games, some GPU-intensive that benefited from the extra features and others that clearly need the i7-3960X to be overclocked and nothing to do with using Titans.

So far 2013 is having a craptastic start.

1st: Aliens: Colonial Wars is a huge disappointment with the release being worse than the demo

2nd: Nvidia's Titan

***Edit: The price of Titan will be its' downfall. If it was priced the same as a 680 Classified, then it would be a win, but it wont.

More reading material:
http://www.brightsideofne...6902c-amd-hd-7990.aspx

"Preliminary results show that in 3DMark Fire Strike (Extreme), GTX Titan scores 4870. According to our own testing, this would put the part some 500 points (10%) behind two GeForce GTX 680s in SLI mode. Given that a single GTX 680 achieves around 3000 points, almost 1900 points fewer than GTX Titan. Bear in mind this is still not enough to beat a single GeForce GTX 690."

"You can expect an in-depth review from the usual suspects, which allegedly all received three cards for SLI testing. Given that a single card will go for about 10% less than a GTX 690, we're talking about some serious Benjamins. The boards, at least at the beginning - will only be available through ASUS and EVGA in the respective markets. But don't expect that this card will become a mainstream product. Allegedly, less than 10,000 will be made. In any case - we'll know more next week."

Re:First NVIDIA GeForce Titan 780 Performance Numbers Revealed 2013/02/18 10:49:37 (permalink)
The dark green line is the FPS you get with a two 690s at 5760x1080 in a particular title. The light green line is the performance of three Titans in relation to the two 690s.

They're trying to make the graph look neat and tidy. If the Y-axis was measured in FPS rather than the odd "performance in relation to two 690s," the dark green lines would be all different heights and you wouldn't get as clear an idea of relative performance increase. Like for the first column, BF3, the dark green bar is 45 fps per the hardwareheaven article, then it looks like the light green bar doesn't even come up to 1/5th of the next line, so it's something below 1.1x performance increase. Crysis 3, no one has solid numbers on at this resolution, but googling leads to someone saying they're getting around 7fps at 5760x1080 with one 690, so you can assume that the dark green bar is something like 15 fps, and the light green one is HA HA, what, 27 fps? See how the graph would look all ugly and unbalanced then? People would just focus on the 27fps and say "that's not playable, this card sucks." You'd have to have it ranging from 0fps all the way up to about 80, which would just amplify the differences between the bars and make a really un-pretty marketing tool.

High demand + low supply = price hikes for a commodity item; just like the first EVGA GTX690 went as high as $1200 on newegg, Titan will have a similar start.  Maybe it is best some of you waited at least a week.  But having the slightest idea of the supply makes waiting complicated, and all retailers along with nVidia knows that .  I'll bet the 10k supply number was leaked on purpose and similar rational to the demand of gasoline kicks in where if we don't get it now it won't get it later.

But I don't think the demand is that high, the perspective is off here since many members are quite passionate and happen to be wealthy, so if they only interact with each other, they will believe their kind are the majority.  It is like cabin fever but with more people, focus is on each other with virtually no consideration of the outside, as if it is all about those in the cabin.

Re:First NVIDIA GeForce Titan 780 Performance Numbers Revealed 2013/02/18 14:54:33 (permalink)
Well, if we wish to speak about demand, remember that the majority (~60%) of the PC market (which is still shrinking due to tablets) settle for the GPU built inside the CPU, which actually runs games pretty well in my testing (Ivy Bridge). This is because most people aren't gamers; and of the gaming crowd, most settle for console-grade graphics (which CPUs can output).

Then you have an even split between nVidia and AMD users for the GTX 660 - GT 640 models (probably ~30%-35%). Among this population are also the people who buy the old high end: GTX 580, GTX 480. Getting anything below a GT 640 would be done out of ignorance of a CPU's superior GPU (unless it is a case in which the CPU lacks a GPU).

Finally, you have the people who buy the high end, the GTX 670 and GTX 680. Let us be liberal and say this consists of 10% of the market. I would only think 1%-2% of the market actually goes with SLI on the high end, either through a GTX 690 or two GTX 670s or 680s. Even fewer go with Tri-SLI. And much fewer go with 4-way or Quad SLI. Now we put in a new card in which the entry point is the same price as a GTX 690, and most people who buy this card will only buy one. Keep in mind, these are the same people who would buy a $1000 CPU from Intel, although a $1000 GPU is worth a lot more than those Intel Extreme Editions.

In reality, 10,000 should be enough. If nVidia runs out, they will either rerun the Titans, or launch the GTX 780 with even more impressive specs.

Reddawne

So the left side of the graph are measurements of what?

All we care about is framerates and speed.

can I just say who ever edited this graph like this is not thinking at all. your assuming 100% scalling on sli, and thats... just compleatly off.
especially at the tri and quad sli level.

Tri and quad SLI actually scale really well when at high resolution and AA. I routinely get 97+% on my tri and quad 680/7970's setups. It's noobs who run tri-quad setups at 1080P and with broken SLI profiles that give it a bad name.

There is a place for 3/4 GPU, and it is only at very demanding applications. Of course the chart was just to ballpark and not be exact.
